You won't get the rates you have been seeing on a primary vehicle. Matter of
fact the reason I ended up with Hagerty was they were one of the few that would

The reason the classic insurer didn't want to insure you is that they would be
liable for an accident
while you were driving a non-owned vehicle...such as a friends vehicle. All the
companies
I represent will honor the commercial insurance policy if it has the
DOC-Drive-Other-Car
endorsement on it.

You guys are lucky, I haven't had to insure my Chevelles in awhile but when I
was driving my 66 every day I was paying $1200 a year for just liability! I was
too young to be insured through any of the classic auto insurers at the time
(stopped driving it when I was 21). Now for my '04 Silverado 1500 (king cab,
4WD, blah, blah) I pay $1950 a year for full coverage!!! I have no accidents
and no speeding tickets for the last 6 years, its just one of the crappy things
of living in Eastern Kentucky, I have family in Ohio the same age as me that
pay somewhere in the lines of $500 a year for full coverage on far newer
vehicles. Mainly it is due to the worthless pieces of crap that live around
here that either 1. get in a fender bender and are not really hurt and go
straight to the pill doctor to get thier next fix and plus sue the insurance
company for far more than it is worth. or 2. they buy a car they cann't afford,
it gets "stolen" only to be found on a
strip job somewhere burned out. Either way its fraud. All I am saying to you
guys is it could definatly be worse!!

Hey Donnie,
If you Malibu is stock we could insure it for about $150 for a year. If it
is modified $250 for a year. Quote is with Infinity Classic Insurance,
6,000 annual miles. No deductible on the comp or collision. Unlimited
mileage is available from Infinity for a few more dollars.

PS Did you notice that big hole in Darrell's coverages? Nothing personal
Darrell. He has an umbrella policy which shows that he needs high liability
limits and Grundy will only offer the state minimum for Uninsured and
Underinsured Motorists coverage. In my experience you are much more likely
to get hit by someone than to hit someone. If the moron that hits you has no
coverage or very little coverage and people in your car are injured Grundy
walks away after the first $50K and you are stuck with the rest. I recommend
you go with a company that will let you have high limits for your Uninsured
and Underinsured Motorists Coverage too so there is no GAP between those
coverages and your umbrella policy. Price isn't everything especially with
insurance.

What are your coverages? I pay $375/year with Hagerty, (live in MD)
and the agreed value is only $15,000. I have a 67 chevelle ... malibu.
This is full coverage but seems high compared to your rates. Might be
time for me to change insurance companies!

Thanks

paying $220.00 a year. It is registered as an antique.

I have had "classic cars" insured for well over 25 years BUT
The one thing I have learned is to actually ask the company...(not your

Haggerty but when I specifically asked if I could drive my car 60 miles on
a Sunday afternoon to visit my Father the answer was NO it would be
classified as pleasure driving (like what the hell do they think I would be

Needless to say I passed on insuring the cars with them... I now insure

insure the car While I was not driving it IF I parked the car on the

[Chevelle-list] Insurance

2004-08-11 Thread D.R. Jones
I value both of my cars at $20,000 each and they both are modified.
Texas is also one of the highest states for insurance costs. American
Collector wanted $865 for both. Guess I can drop the value down and
reduce the rate and go with J.C. Taylor. Thanks for the input.

Hagerty also has 3 classifications that could effect price: stock,
modified, exotic. I got my '66 SS in as stock even though it has headers -
as long as the performance equipment doesn't add more than 15 HP to the
original HP.

Good point. It has quite a lot to do with the declared value of the car(s).
I told them that my EC was worth $10k and the Olds (sold BTW) was worth
$5k. That could easily explain the $120 for one (the EC) vs. the $150 for
two in my case.

I have one claim experience with them and that claim was handled quickly

The key question I asked every Insurance Company  is what kind of

I like to take my cars out for a 20-40 mile drive around the local

"show" being held on a Tuesday evening just past the sharp turn

to ask an insurance company about their coverage.  While attending a show

question to ask an insurance company that I never would have thought of.
Now a can't remember what they are.  I do remember that one talked
about the value of your vehicle.  That unless some certain was stipulated
in the agreement they insurance company may still not have to give you the full
value on your vehicle.  Thanks for any help.

  If you call Hagerty
don’t answer yes if they ask you if you have nitrous on the car. I said I was
thinking about it after I gave her my name and I was abruptly told that they
couldn’t do business with me. I called back the next day to try again and they
already had my name on file as a “decadent” nitrous user.

I was told that if a
car ever had nitrous on it they wouldn’t insure it. I asked the girl how they
could possibly know if a car ever had nitrous installed. She didn’t know, but
since I said I was going to install nitrous there was nothing they could do
for me. At that point I got mad and said, “I see, you would rather have
someone lie to you than be up front.” She said, “No sir, but you said you were
going to use nitrous.” I said, “You’re telling me that because I said I was
thinking about putting a nitrous system in my car that you can’t insure me?”
She said, ”That’s right sir, that’s our policy.” At that point I replied,
“Sounds to me like I would have insurance right now if I lied doesn’t it?” She
  wouldn’t answer me.

RE: [Chevelle-List] Insurance

2003-02-11 Thread Bill Vander Werf
I have no problem with a company having policies. However, I think their
brochures should state their restrictions to save people who don't meet
their requirements from wasting everyone's time.

I don't scam insurance companies. I have way too much to lose. I was
simply trying to see if they would insure a modified big block car, but
when I honestly answered the question about whether I intended to use
nitrous I was rudely cut off. I was made very aware that Hagerty wasn't
interested in my business two days in a row.

What convinced me that they are ridiculous was when the girl told me
that they wouldn't insure any car that "ever" had a nitrous system
installed. I asked her why it wouldn't be insurable if I removed the
system and she told me that it would be too easy to put back
on...What? It would be easier to put back on the second time than it
was the first time?...Ridiculous.

How could they possibly know if I had a system installed and removed it?
They couldn't.

They won't do business with me because my car "used to" have a nitrous
system? That's like telling me I'm uninsurable because I "used to" be a
16 year old, high risk driver...They're ridiculous.

Hagerty insures classic and slightly modified vehicles. It's their
prerogative as a business to set their own guidelines as to the amount
of
risk they are willing to take. If someone has a vehicle outside of that
then they have to look for a company that will take them. Hagerty has
competitive rates and good service for the product they offer. Throw in
a
lot of higher risk cars and everybody's rates will go up.And yes you
can always lie about what you are insuring, but it will come out if ever
making a claim and end up losing in the end for saving a few bucks in
premium.

That's interesting. I was turned down a couple of years ago because the car
I wanted antique insurance on was a 1968 Ninety Eight convertible, and my
other car that I wanted to register as a regular driver was also a 1968
Ninety Eight convertible. I was told that I had to have at least one
"modern" car as a driver. I'm pretty sure I called both Taylor and Whitney.

The fact that you already have coverage is a bigger deal than most
realize,Krister. For example,State Farm has Stated Value policies but will
not accept any new ones,,period. Nowadays,a new policyholder has to jump
through hoops to get insurance.
Glad you have a good deal with Hagerty.

Hagerty asked about the value of your daily
driver insurance because of something about lawsuit protection. If there is a
lawsuit the policy with the highest liability coverage would be the target of
the lawsuit. Hagerty does not want to be highest. My old car insur company
asked for a copy of my daily driver insur before they would insur me. When I
asked why they needed my daily driver policy that is the reason they gave
me.

I've had my '66 SS convertible with JC Taylor for around 10 years or
so. I have upped the value a few times as the car improved, and the
premium went up a little each time. I had one claim which was quickly
and efficiently handled - no complaints from me. 100% no-deductible
coverage, and we agree on the value in case it gets totalled. I buy the
coverage thru my regular agent who also has the house and other road
cars.

I'd reccomend JC Taylor without hesitation.

well I guess I better add in my .02 on this topic. I ran into the problem of
insuring my 70 SS when I finished restoring it. Hagerty was the only company
willing to work with a 20 year old. They were more than happy to insure the
car for me. I am paying $286 a year, full coverage for an agreed value of
$17,500. I'm can't imagine why they would give a crap about what year your
daily driver is, mine is an 86 Cutlass Supreme. I added my 69 Chevelle on to
the policy last year for an additional $86 per year, I plan on adding my 69
Charger and my mom's 67 Jaguar in the future. I know Hagerty will insure a
tunnel rammed car, I know someone that has one. Like I said, they are the
only ones willing to work with a 20 year old (at the time). I am going on 3
years with them and hope to be with them many more.

I could tell you some stories about Hagerty about
trying to insure my Corvette with them. Some of the requirements they told
me about over the phone were enough to make me want to pull their heads off and
sh*t in their neck.

  I think they are
  ridiculous.

Does anyone have any ideas about insurance for their
classic chevy?  I have checked with my regular carrier and they want
almost as much for my Malibu as my every day 85 Elky.  I seem to remember
there was always some outift selling insurance for classics at every car show
  or swap meet I went to. Bob A.C.E.S. #1164 T. C. #375 65

Insurance

Is 307.00 yearly. I am with State Farm and have full
coverage so I know that it will be more, but I pay over 500.00 yearly.
Also, this is blue book value for my 71 Chevelle. I have to have the car
appraised to cover the real value. Now that I think about this, 500.00+
for blue book on my 71 Chevelle is too high. I need to call and ask some
questions don't you think??

 What insurance does the list
recommend.  I'm paying 307.00 which I think too much for
Collision and Comp.
