Re: [Chevelle-list] It's ALIVE!!!

2006-02-13 Thread Bob Haggard
If you don't want to drop the tank then syphon out all you can get then add
some good premium gas and maybe some additives, I guess. The rubber fuel line
at the tank is subject to rot and leak in old cars so you may want to check it
or just replace it. I drove my 63 Nova for a couple years before I bought a
new tank and I could not believe the crap in the old tank. I guess the filter
was doing a good job otherwise it would have stopped up the carb. I live on a
lake and every spring the lake is littered with boats that stop running after
using last years fuel which usually includes lots of water from condensation.
My $.02.

I got it home anyway...it's very difficult to work on it at the storage

I'll do it before I drive her home.

Well, I snuck over to the storage yard where the '68 Malibu I just
bought has been for the past several years...
We'd tried for the past couple of days to get it started, but 6volts in
the battery wasn't going to cut it.
Brought it home, charged it up, went over yesterday, still no go...
My buddy met me over there today and he figured it out... Neutral Safety
 switch was bad...
we jumped it, and it turned over...primed the carb and it fired right
up, but as soon as the
fuel got up around the carb, we noticed a fuel leak where the rubber
line attached to the dual feed line...
rubber was like plastic. Ran across the street to Autozone to pick up
some line and a new fuel filter, my buddy called
and said to get a fuel pump too... it was rotating where it's supposed
 to be pinched together...
got back, threw the pump, filter and lines on. We noticed the fuel was
bad... smelled funky, be we didn't see any
harm in trying it... reprimed a couple of times, fired up and ran...
quite a bit of smoke. Motor
hadn't been run in probably 4 years. kept it at as low an idle as I
could for a few minutes, then rev'd her up to
clear the crap out... she seems to run a bit rough, but we're
attributing that to the bad gas and more than likely
needing a new set of plugs. I'm going to get a right front tire
tomorrow, and hopefully get her home where the major
cleanup will start. It's got Flowmasters on it...not sure what models, I
think 40 Series... it sounds awesome at idle, but pretty
 darn loud when your revving.

Congratulations, Ron. That's a great feeling

Bob is exactly right about your oil and gas. If you can have it towed the 8
miles, I would do that and then drop the tank. I have found hair brushes, bolts
and other stuff in the tanks I have removed. Know anybody with AAA Plus? They
can have you towed up to 100 miles for free!! If that's not an option, at least
add/mix some fresh gas to your tank.

Good luck.

kinda took precedent. My cancer seems to be in remission now so it seemed
like the right time to get it out and start enjoying it again.
Man,it felt good to be rowing the 6spd down the road. Life is short, guys
gals. Enjoy it while you can.

After 1.5 years I finally got to hear my 396 run tonight and it sounded so
good I could have listened to that Big Block with open headers all night.
After the 30 minute cam break-in I still wanted to hear more but I shut her
down for tonight. There is nothing sweeter than hearing your baby come to
life after hours of hard work. I don't know if I'll be able to sleep
tonight. I just had to tell somebody. Thanks for listening to me dote over
my baby.

Congrats Trooper. I had a similar feeling when I broke my 496 in. Now if I can just get it in the car and get that running. But there is no greater feeling. - Original Mikey Message - From: Trooper Sent: Monday, May 10, 2004 9:48 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Chevelle-list] It's Alive!!! With out Number TWO. there is no number ONE.. or if
there is, Number TWO is not in the picture for Log

Kent has a keeper there ( 9 year
honey do list ). Sue's . that's got to be eligible for some kind of
Award..

Wayne.

  -
Congratson two things Kent... 1. Getting your project to
"running" status, and 2. Finding an understanding and patient
woman! I found out a long time ago without number 2, it's much
more difficult to get number 1!

  Again, congrats!

Hello Everyone - I know my husband is too
humble to say anything, but after 9 VERY LONG YEARS of
restoring his 68 Chevelle - he just fired it up and the paintings on our
walls are shaking. I just wanted him to know how proud weare of
him and his beautiful car - it is really awesome!

Great job Kent!

Love,
Sue
