Last I saw, the GTO was nothing more than a Grand Am
w/GTO badges on it.. 8^[

I just can't understand how domestic car producers
ruled the world in muscle and sports car design for 30
years, and now they can't even design one car that
meets the old criteria successfully (save the 'Vette,
Viper, and Prowler). People at work are a bunch of
yuppie wanna-be's and always ask me why I wanted to
restore such an old heap and I tell them 1. it was a
great learning experience for me and 2. Beamer's suck.

Oh and by the way... that funky SRT wagon there is a reality!!! Oh a station wagon is so much better then a minivan :)

Re: [Chevelle-List] Off-Topic - new car designs

2003-06-07 Thread Capt Crunch
All I can say is I hate the new car styling for 80% of the cars complete from the teardrop look to the fugly alzetta look-a-like rear tail lights and even uglier bright as the sun headlights. I have to admit the 2005 Mustang Design is sweet! Now if they can only get that supercharged Cobra motor to stop eating cams and head gaskets(Ford still has yet to deal with the redesign/engineering of the oiling system through the head). I think while the f-body is on the down Ford is really goona go all out to get the performance people. Kinda a dumb move by GM but they knew with out a creative redesign of the f-body it would never be able to compete with the mustang line which is full of performance and fresh looks. The Mach ones complete with shaker hood and 300 hp are a great and of course 390 hp under the hood of the Cobra is awsome, especially when aside from the oiling problems the bottom ends are taking 900 hp untouched! Only two motors rivaling that in terms of stoutness from the factory are probably the 2JZ's in the Supras and the new New SRT4 motor (did I mention I love this car... 190hp of turbo power for 20 grand! Too bad the front is still neon ugly). Last tid bit from Ford is the Lightning... my buddy has a 2003 and with only a chip and pulley change he hit high twelves on the stock goodyear radial tires (amazing thing is 1.9-ish sixties in a stock suspension truck!!!)! That is very impressive, and supposedly a 500 hp model from the factory for 2005 that is similar in design to the new Cobra setup. The GTO is a great concept V8 power available with a manual, 2 doors, and a back seat that is actually usable! BUT... like most people say... it is just a slightly changed Grand Prix which is lame. The Grand Am and the Grand Prix are already damn near identical. One thing that has remained more on the down low is the plans for the Bonneville. Am I the only one that really like these cars? I believe the special edition is gonna be called the GXP or something like that, but it is gonna be pretty powerful. They also are gonna supposedly gonna start sticking V8 power under the hood via a Northstar design which should really be nice. GM's eco-tech is a nice piece of work as well... now they ned to step up to the times and get a turbo on that baby and maybe drop her in an awd chassis. All in all the looks might not be that appealing to me, but the performance, reliability, and economy of today's cars is top notch. Enough of my mini-noval... My 98 Grand
Prix GTP ran 14.5 @ 95. (on a 40 degree day). The supercharged cars are plenty strong out of the box. I think a new s/c pulley and exhaust
and chip gets you in the 13s. Its
just a shame its FWD.

I like the
look of the 97-03 Grand Prixs, but not the Grand Am, and the new GTO is a big
styling disappointment to me, although the hardware sure looks good on paper.

I don't see where Larry made any stupid remarks.
Also I just may add that 93 Mustang GT's are not rare. A production total of 26,000 does not make a car rare. An example of a rare car would be a 1970 L89 convertible Chevelle or a 1970 Dodge Challenger with a 426 Hemi/4 speed painted Plum Crazy or a 69 Cougar Eliminator.
