What about a 67 El Camino? There used to be a
nice one in Colorado a while back for $6500 but sold now. Then you'd
have the best of both worlds. The 67 you want and still be able to
haul stuff, like firewood in the winter g.

Well, I live in Texas and $4500 wouldn't get me anything close
to a good running car in a pre 1973 model ChevelleI looked for about a
month...granted this was before the email list membership. All I found were
cars that wouldn't come close to what I have now as far as reliability and

something I liked and something that had potential as well. I did look at
one '72 SS that was ok, but it had a very subtle knock in the lower end of
the passenger side and it smoked on startupit was priced at

Kelly,
How right you are about being in the right place at the right time. I looked
all over N. California before finding my first Elky ( non SS )about two miles
from my home.
Then, after I've pored about $1500.00 into it, I spot my current SS Elky for
sale, 3 miles away. Not that I was really looking, but the ad caught my eye.
'69 SS El Camino $5K obo. I had to look. And then after 4 days no one had
bought it. I couldn't believe it. It was not long after 9/11 though. So I got
it for $4.4K. Yee ha.

Very well donemine was for sale for $5500...the guy was a auto shop
owner and he had two projects, a '54 Ford truck/350/350/12bolt and the Elky
(shop truck/daily driver)...his wife said that one must go to pay off the
credit cards. He had rebuilt the original motor to 325 hp and the tranny
(TH-350) got a shift kit and he also put in a 10 bolt 3.08 posi, he had the
build sheet and everythinghe got a lot of tire kickers at $4k, got
disgusted and took his wife's edict to heart and relisted the car for
$4500I was the first one on the scene that Sunday and bought it without
dickeringwell worth it. Since, I've seen lesser equipped Elky's of that
year sell for $1-2.5k more. I am very happy with mine even though it's not
one of the golden years...I've only put about $2k into getting the air
redone and replacing a few things like the windshield and power steering
pump, etc. . I had always thought the 78-79's were good looking. I still
want the '70-72 BB, but will have to wait til I nail a few more boards
together...:)unless I get really lucky..

I was then able to sell my non SS the 2nd day the ad was out, for only a
couple of hundred less than I had into it.
Someone will have to give me web site tips for posting pictures when the
paint's done in the next couple weeks.

I can do that. You'll have to tell me what programs you'll be using for the
photo processing and such.

BTW I did fly to Plano Texas (Dallas Airport) to purchase my Vette last year.
Horrible traffic trying to leave town.

Yeah, this is bad traffic city, but it's still better than a lot of others
I know of. I am happy to be back..no car clubs in the sticks:)

I went to meet the guys from Metroplex Muscle the other dayvery nice
people...more car oriented than the last Club I tried to join...this one
has no formal dues or self serving meetings, just a bunch of car nuts
getting together to show their cars off (and they are very nice)I
talked to one guy for at least an hour about how he painted his own car and
other things he did to itsince I'm getting my business off the ground
(again), I won't be perusing the organized club for awhile. I will be
hanging out with these guys thoughhere's some pics of the meeting

http://www.geocities.com/twosupersports/dec01.html

If the page won't load, try back in an hour...Geocities has gone the route
of charging for trafficI just found a site that offers unlimited
everything for $4.95 a month (right up my alley) and offers free domain reg
and forwarding. http://www.hostonce.com/ I'll be moving my business pages
there very soon as well as my fairly extensive Elky/Chevelle site.

I missed getting a '79 SS with 60k for $4000 in OK city last year for the

it...can't believe the relisted thew car for sale the same day for
$8995.00. Then I found out the car wasn't a real SS and that they fake

Also if anyone has any info about Columbus Ohio I'd sure be interested in
knowing what it's like up there.

I live in Kent(NE Ohio). Winters are much milder than the snowbelt and places
like Erie, Buffalo. Great location for car shows and racing, several a year
at National trails(outside Columbus), Quaker City(near Youngstown), Norwalk
Raceway Park. During the summer several nights a week you can hit a cruise as
well at local Walmarts/AW's and others. Winter gives me a chance to save a
few bucks and work on the car and it adds more excitement for spring.

Very nice people there I hear, but no oneand I mean no onedrives
over any posted speed limit at any time (I got this second hand from two
different sources, I've never been there).

Lots of speed traps and lots of speed limit drivers. Not much chance of
talking your way out of a state patrol ticket..I recieved a ticket in my
Chevelle doing 42 in a 35 zone..total crap if you ask me. I was driving along
with traffic and was picked out as the guy that got the ticket. I guess it's
only fair for the many 1/4 mile blasts I've made down Ohio roads.

No offense, but I got my '69 SS Elky with a BB and a four speed for less than
$4500.
Very little rust, and it came with rally wheels and a very descent, for the
price, interior and SS gauges. The car was missing some of the trim pieces
and emblems, but overall the body was in very good shape, though in need of a
paint job. Throw in some tranny work (it pops out of 4th), and it'll be ready
to roll. Oh yeah, it came with a 12 bolt rear end too. And this is in
California, (higher prices).

So, if you can get $4500 for your Elky, I'd say do it.

and emblems, but overall the body was in very good shape, though in need of a
paint job. Throw in some tranny work (it pops out of 4th), and it'll be ready
to roll. Oh yeah, it came with a 12 bolt rear end too. And this is in
California, (higher prices).

Good score...wish I could have found one here for thatI really wanted
the BB/4spd combo...I haven't seen that many here for that price(and I
look every single week in the Autotrader and on the web).

I know you can find one for that price range, but here in Dallas you gotta
be in the right place at the right time for a deal like that

Open msg to anyone on the list that wants a ZR-1 or
knows a potential buyer. Clint has one of the nicest, slickest, ZR-1's
around. Top quality parts throughout - motor to roll bars to brakes to
wheels and tires. I don't know how much has changed since we did a web
page on it (http://www.bull-enterprises.com/dalesplace/htm/friends_cars/clint_hooper_zr1.htm)
but it's worth looking at!

Nope, not yet. Temporarily quit looking at El
Caminos while my Corvette has been for sale. I've just about had it with the
  tirekickers looking at my ZR-1,though.

First
of all, some others may be, but I am "not worthy" ;)

Second, just curious, but why would you want so badly to move to a place
you know little about?

Third,
please leave your E-mail address so I can fill ya in a little bit. I have "been
there, done that" I am a California boy that moved to Ohio, near Dayton. Now I
know there are some of you saying "why the HECK would he do something like
THAT?" Well so many of the "fruits and nuts" from here moved there that I
couldn't afford to live there anymore so decided to move back to one of their
houses. Just kidding, it was job related ...but it was a good move in many other
ways as well.

I am
about an hour and 15 from Columbus. Been to Columbus several times. No sign of
the Nina, Pinta,or Santa Maria, but there is a small Chevelle club. www.ohiochevelle.com I am
checking it out now.

Just
sent my ACES membership in, so looks like some of you dudes will have to put up
with me in Nashville if I can get my reservations in before the procrastinators.
Last one in the pool has to guard the beer! Wait have to think about
that.

Lastly, I reserve all judgement on selling the Elky. Other than saying
that you have to love what you work on and invest in, and as others pointed out,
you do it for the love of the car, not what it's worth afterwards because no car
will be worth what you put into it, in time alone. The decision has to be a
personal one based on more emotions than logic. Something that's not easy for us
guys in most cases.

  The

project. To convince me that I should sell the El Camino, she has agreed
to let me get a loan for up to $9K to buy my dream car (1967 Chevelle), once
  we get to Columbus.

  So I
need the knowledge and experience of the "List"

1). Do I sell my Elky, give into the urge of a 67 Chevelle and
take a large loss on what I've put into the Elky ($5500 total

Kelly,
How right you are about being in the right place at the right time. I looked
Yee ha.
I was then able to sell my non SS the 2nd day the ad was out, for only a
couple of hundred less than I had into it.
Someone will have to give me web site tips for posting pictures when the
paint's done in the next couple weeks.
BTW I did fly to Plano Texas (Dallas Airport) to purchase my Vette last year.
Horrible traffic trying to leave town.

David
