Re: [Chevelle-list] List Etiquette
Larry - I've been participating in discussion lists since back when only geeks (I mean that in the good sense) had computers. I've also run my fair share of lists as well. Discussion list etiquette is important to ensure harmony of the list. Truth is, while some people may use their computers solely for recreation, others (like me) make their living on their computer. So the last thing these latter folks need is a mailbox full of crap. In my opinion, discussion list participants owe their fellow list members the respect of following a few simple guidelines. Here are a handful of rules I use on the lists I run. No fighting. Healthy disagreeing is cool, fighting sucks and you will be banned. Do not discuss politics or religion (unless your list is political or religious in nature, of course). Similarly, keep the discussion on topic. We are here to discuss __. While many of us may be interested in similar other, things, the one thing we know we agree on is and so that is what we discuss here. If there is something off-topic you feel you absolutely must share with us, please mark it as off-topic with OT in the subject line. That way the other list members can choose to delete the message if they'd rather not read off-topic messages. Please refrain from posting too many off-topic messages. If we feel you're posting too many off-topic messages, we may be forced to moderate you. Please do not post personal messages to the list. If your message is meant for only one other list member, then send it directly to that list member. This goes for responses as well as original messages. The rules for the lists I run are generally longer and more involved than this, but the above are the ones I feel are most important. There are several other resources out there for list etiquette, including an official RFC - http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1855.html Bottom line is that list etiquette is all about respecting the other list members. As the Internet becomes the playground of laypeople, a lot of things like list etiquette go by the wayside. The inmates really are running the asylum sometimes. It is good that this list moderates itself rather well because I've seen some good list go to hell in a handbasket. It sounds like the list you're referring to could use some gentle moderation to maintain its usefulness for its members. Oh, BTW - I should have sent this to you in a personal e-mail. ;-) Karl Groves Master Certified CIW http://www.karlgroves.com http://www.karlgroves.com/ Grayscale Content Management System: http://www.grayscalecms.com http://www.grayscalecms.com/ _ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, February 24, 2007 2:10 PM To: chevelle-list@chevelles.net Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] List Etiquette Hello List: While we are on the subject of lists, I have a question. The Chevelle club that I belong to has a list somewhat like this on Yahoo. Re: [Chevelle-list] List Etiquette
From the FAQ page that you should have read when you joined--the whole page is here: http://www.chevelles.com/lists/#120 BillL Any other rules we should know about? Generally, your List Administrator is not big on rules. It is expected that list participants exercise due politeness when discussing controversial subjects with each other. Occasionally, tempers will flair and hurtful comments will be tossed about, but it is anticipated that most members will be grown up enough that they can tolerate contrary opinions and maybe the odd joke or two. There are some other guidelines for ensuring a happy list: It is appreciated by all if you could ensure your subject headers reflect accurately the contents of your posts, especially if you are replying to a current thread. When you reply to another message, please try to refrain from quoting the entire message in your own post. Instead, quote just the relevant bits of the original message. Doing this reduces bandwidth needed to transmit e-mail (especially nice for folks who dial into their e-mail via modem) and makes your messages much easier to read, particularly in digest format. Since some list members might have trouble with them, the sending of binary attachments (such as pictures of your Chevelle) to the Chevelle List is not allowed and will only get the administrator in a very cranky mood as he sits waiting an hour for the picture to load off the server. In short: This also keeps nasty viruses from reaching your computer via a mailing list. In all cases, remember to reply to folks as if they were in the same room with you. Because you can't see other members of the Chevelle List is no reason to behave any less politely than you would with people you were meeting face to face. Your List Administrator is none too interested in maintaining strict adherence to notions of topical relevance, and is not crazy about dozens of superfluous messages complaining that a particular post is off-topic. Try to stay on the subject of Chevelles, but if the conversation digresses, hey, you're among friends. Have some fun. If, on the other hand, you are one of those human beings who has a hard time dealing with other human beings when they start acting like human beings, you might not appreciate the easy-going manner in which this list is administered.

Just my personal opinion but after driving modern cars for so long, a 14 wheel is very comfortable to me. I had a 13.5 Weld Racing and a 14 LeCarra in my 67 SS and currently have a 14 LeCarra in my 67 Elky. The 13.5 just seemed too small but the 14 is quite nice. At 11:30 PM 7/25/2005, you wrote: Not to be flippant but the same way you got on the list. Visit http://www.chevelles.com/lists/ for unsubscribing instructions. OR (I know some of you don't like this, but--it's my job!!) To unsubscribe from this service you must first purchase a Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit. The unit can be obtained from most hardware stores and dental clinics. Be sure to obtain the proper permits to operate the unit from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Food and Drug Administration in Washington D.C. USA. Be sure to carefully unpack the kit and place each component in its accompanying mesh safety bag. Mount the Pershing DF4 mesinator on top of the perforated Gerring Mach 77 refibulator and attach them using the eight-millimeter torque fork. Be sure that the refibulator is mounted at a 66 degree angle and properly dispersed so that it is flush with the curved section of the Pyrex thistle tube. Place the four sections of the triangular separation gear into the posture cylinder and lock them into place using the band aid adhesive strip. Insert the wiggling pin into the wobbling hole, making sure that it seated correctly. Place the D cell battery and the eleven 9 volt batteries in the power chamber. The device should be calibrated before operation using the optional digital corkscrew accessory pack prior to operation. Insert the digital corkscrew through the electronic combustion service chamber using caution not to touch the reinforced tungsten igniter control module and quickly turn the inverter drive to 28.6 degrees. Turn the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit upside down and hit the bottom plate with a 48-ounce ball-peen hammer while shaking the unit vigorously. Force open the door to the incineration valve compartment and set the pressure gauge to 719 psi. Close the door and seal it shut with duct tape. The unit should now be properly calibrated and ready to use. Before activating the Craft-O-Matic Adjustable Subscription Cancellation Unit, you must first elevate it to a height of 229 feet above sea level to insure that the unit receives the proper oxygen level and barometric pressure. Point the aerial to 17 degrees north by northeast to within the parameters of the Telstar GS-2 weather satellite and apply pressure to the wing shaft on the southern most section of the modular accelerator. Using the special ratchet adapter supplied with the unit, rotate the heater core to the on position. The on position has been obtained when the green light begins to flash, signifying that the red light is about to go off. Re: [Chevelle-list] list quiet? my project update
Interesting project,Dave. A good friend of mine works in the Engine Shop at Mercruiser in Oklahoma, developing different engine combos. A few months ago,he gave me a complete BBC tuned port injection system for the engine I've been putting together for my El Camino. After owning a few late model Corvettes with all their complexity,I'm not sure I really want to deal with the hassle of converting my BBC to DFI. Yeah,I know the advantages of fuel injection but the intake "honk" of a big Holley when the secondaries open is sure hard to beat, too. Maybe I'll pull the system out of the box this Winter and see what I can come up with. Clint HooperHH Custom,ownerLT5 Registry Directorhttp://www.LT5Registry.net/ACES #1650http://dalesplace.com/misc/friends/clint/clint_hooper.htm - Original Message - From: Dave Studly I didn't get any email from the list on Wednesday April 28th. Is everyone just out cruising, enjoying the weather? I drove my '70 to work for the first time this year, as it is almost 80 today in Cleveland. woo-hoo!Since it's been quiet, I'll post an update on my latest project. I'm starting to gather parts for my EFI conversion. I plan on converting my 406-powered '70 to EFI using the MegaSquirt EFI controller and a TPI-based manifold. http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/116_0403_mega/index2.html It's definately not an easy project. Just assembling the MegaSquirt and pieceing together a harness will be challenging, let alone the high-pressure fuel system and then tuning the thing. All of the software is free, and the whole design (hardware software) is open source, free for anyone to modify to their liking. There's a real good mailing list with lots of knowledgeable folks. I think I'm going to start with an 80s TPI manifold setup, although I susspect it might be too restrictive for my combo. I hope to score some of the intake hardware at the GM Carlisle meet in June. I got a set of injectors from a '96-98 Mopar 5.9 for free at work today. I'm not sure if they work or if they'll work on a TPI manifold, but they were free.I haven't seen any postings here, but over on the MegaSquirt list, there's a lot of talk about the newer Wide-Band oxygen sensors (WB02). Even for carb'ed cars (who put an O2 bung into the exhaust), these WB02 sensors can show a real-time air-fuel ratio. Unlike older O2 sensors (narrow-band), these wide-band unit are accurate when you get away from stoich (14.7:1 Air-fuel ratio). I imagine you could really cut down on tuning time with one of these, not to mention increase the 'quality' of your tune. -Dave

RE: [Chevelle-list] list quiet? my project update
Clint, I'm a computer-guy as much as I am a gearhead, so that's why the project interests me. Knowing that I can get a reasonably well-featured controller for only $200 and free software makes it much more attainable. I wouldn't pay $1000 for an Accel or Haltech unit. I didn't want to deal with a stock system that couldn't give me enough latitude to accomodate my 406. I also didn't want to deal with calling some EFI shop to have them burn me a new chip anytime I made a mod. I guess I'm in the opposite boat as you -- have never had (or rather, worked on) a high-tech car. I wish I had buddys sending me complete EFI setups and saying "eh, play with it, see what ya think!" :-) The MegaSquirt in it's stock form can accomodate up to 21psi of boost, so it seems like adding a Vortech or Paxton shouldn't be real difficult. I have a friend with a blown '87 Mustang and watched him pull a 10.90 with a 302. That's impressive to me. I don't really want to run 10s (ok, maybe a few times!), but it seems you could build a nice, reliable setup capable of low-mid 11s easily. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has converted to EFI, in any form, to see what kind of problems you ran into. -Dave -Original Message-From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]On Behalf Of Clint HooperSent: Thursday, April 29, 2004 8:52 PMTo: The Chevelle Mailing ListSubject: Re: [Chevelle-list] list quiet? my project update Interesting project,Dave. Re: [Chevelle-list] list quiet? my project update
I want to see how strong my 427 BB roller motor will be before making any decisions. However,I have considered the idea of a centrifugal blower and if I go that route,it would be silly not to go ahead and convert to EFI. 750+hp would be kinda nice. Re: [Chevelle-List] List archive and exhaust hanger location
I know this isn't really your point, but it reminded me to make a reminder :) Just in case some new guys don't know or if anyone's forgotten, there's an archive of past email at http://www.mail-archive.com/chevelle-list%40chevelles.net/ Update on my engine swap: Engine's in, everything will be bolted up by the end of today. The exhaust is mocked up and should be welded by the end of the day. Only thing left to do is the wiring and I'll be back on the road! Can't wait! :) On a side note. If anyone who has installed the Flowmaster 2-1/2 exhaust kit on their car has a picture (or REALLY detailed instructions) of where the rearmost hanger is supposed to bolt in, I could really use it. It says to use the stock location, but 1) I don't know where that is because the last person who did exhaust made their own holes and stuff. 2) The bracket doesn't seem to line up anywhere and I'm stumped trying to figure it out. Re: [Chevelle-List] List archive and exhaust hanger location
Hi Rodney, The stock location for the exhaust hangers is on the rear cross member. If you get under the car and look up at the crossmember, you'll see a small hole (may or may not be threaded) on the outer most end on both sides. A bit further in toward the center, you see two more holes drilled on the vertical side of the crossmember. These probably aren't very clear locations, but each hanger uses two bolts, one goes up towards the bed, the other goes towards the front or back (depending which way you start the bolt) of the car. If anyone wants to post information about their car, they can view the site here http://ep.com/js/csp/38046.html and click on a post link. Choose Private Party unless you want to pay for your listing. You will have to register first, all you need is a name, email, and password. The next page is a Post Ad form. Check the location and edit if needed; Price$: Leave blank - unless you are selling your car; Label: Enter your car year and model (i.e. 1967 SS396); Buyline: Enter as a quick description of the car; More Info: fill in as much as you want here. Don't check any of the paid options unless you want to donate money to EPage! Once the ad is posted, you can log into your account and add a picture to the ad. Usually we can filter out any such attachments but this one seems to be small enough for mail programs like this to have difficulty with. I've re-configured our mailing list to accept a max size of 29K (the virus is 30.4) so hopefully this will help out. I've received (as the list admin) about 200 bounced/invalid and returned emails a day and have unsubscribed ANYONE whose computer sends a copy of this virus to the mailing list. If you suddenly find yourself not getting the list mail, that could be why. This change also means that exceptionally long emails will probably be kicked out. We will give this a try and change it back when we can. While I'm in the 'admin' mode, I've removed a number of hotmail and yahoo accounts lately. If you have one of these, please watch your disk space as once your mailbox is full, the list messages get sent to me as non-deliverable so I have to remove the name from the list. The chevelle-list is a great resource and we wish to keep it active and free of hassles. Thanks to all for your efforts in this regard! Regards.. I might memtion to them I bet our ACES Prez Chuck Hanson would be very interested in this car for validation and research. I am sure he would display a little more professional in his thoughts and comments than one of our members has to date. Hello Dwaine and List, All I have ever asked was that the owner of this vehicle get in touch with Chuck so we as a group can learn more about this car and 'GM Nordic' specifically. I also said (and this is strictly my humble opinion) that I did not believe the car to be an SS, and that I was aware of the Malibu SS cars built in Canada. I might add also that I know NOTHING of Chevelles built in Scandinavia or for export. I find this whole 'GM Nordic' thing extremely interesting. My hope was that perhaps Chuck could provide some insight regarding this or maybe he would learn some new things too. The point was and is to share the information with the Chevelle community so we can all learn from it. This is how Team Chevelle grew into the world class resource that it is today. You know I have been on this list a long time, probably around 5 yrs or so. It started for me with Al's McKenzie's *SUPERB* 'Hot Cars and Cold Beer' site around 1996 or so. Then Mitcho created the Chevelle list, which I happened to be one of the original 40 or so members that was hosted on another server. Well the server crashed, and Mitcho could no longer administer the list, so Al took it over and it grew into a big piece of the Team Chevelle site. When emailing other TC members, or the list for that matter, I always try to maintain an open mind in discussions, and most importantly treat others with respect, as I would expect them to treat me in return. I would hope that this simple plan could be followed by all. As people we do not always agree on things but that does not mean that we should not respect anothers right to share their opinions. I guess what I am trying to say here is that maybe we should all take a deep breath, and a step back, and think about the other guy's point of view more often. With that being said, I would like to encourage anyone who is a Chevelle enthusiast who is not a member of ACES or Team Chevelle to please join us. I would also encourange anyone who believes that they have or know of a rare Chevelle (L89, 67 L78, LS5, LS6 etc...) to speak with Chuck Hanson as I'm sure he would be willing to talk to you regarding the history of your vehicle and maybe your pic might just end up in a future issue of Chevelle World. Use the ACES link from the Team Chevelle web site (www.chevelles.com/aces) for more info. Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Dwaine TC'rs Nobody I think is disputing the fact that the guy has a Canadian built Malibu SS made for export! what I think most people take issue with, is the fact that he has a Canadian made Malibu SS, that most people are not aware of the different engine configurations that were available on Canadian/export cars, pops in on this list, hangs a funky moniker on this car/SS230 and launches a full scale ad assault on this list and other places trying to peddle his RARE automobile.
