The only special thing about the ATT DSL is that is it 3X cheaper than I was
paying Hughes.

2010-12-30 Thread Dale
Rick,

I would imagine he's talking Hughes satellite, it's also offered through
DirecTV and maybe even Dish, don't know. Good I suppose if your area
doesn't have any cable service or access to DSL. Download times may be
acceptable (like DSL) but uploads are really slow. I have cable here in
Lawton for Internet, TV and now phone. Not as fast as others (10MB down,
1MB up) but it's the fastest available here and since I do a lot of
uploading for my web sites, DSL or satellite was never an option for me.

You say you want to get TV from the Internet.how are you connecting to the
Internet now if not by DSL, cable, or satellite? I have both satellite and
cable. Satellite primarily for TV but high winds and storms here due knock
it out occasionally and cable for Internet, phone, and those times when the
satellite is knocked out.

Re: [Chevelle-list] OT:Test E-mail

2010-12-30 Thread Rick Schaefer
I'm on ATT DSL at a premium level, its an extra $5 or $10 a month.
I'm pretty sure that my download speed would be acceptable for video.
I'm also usually slow to accept change. I still pay 99% of my bills by
mail.

Suddenlink (cable) annoys me with their semi-annual , or so it seems,
rate hikes. I've got their expanded basic service, one movie tier (not
first run) and a DVR and am paying $100 with the latest increase. Just
seems to me that there are better ways. DISH advertising looks tempting
too.We don't often loose cable service, but a co-worker says that
his DISH is pretty reliable. But as I say I'm hesitant to change, will
the new be any better/different?

Anyway, just ramblin out loud. I know that there are options for internet
access too.

Re: [Chevelle-list] OT:Test E-mail

2010-12-30 Thread RadonMan

Yes, I do everything online. To get good content without pirating
it, you still have to have some subscription services. I have Hulu
Plus (9 bucks), Netflix (8 bucks) and IVI.tv (5 bucks) subscriptions
and get all the channels I want. For seasonal sports, I only really
follow football and baseball, so the free over the air HD broadcasts
gets me most of that, but I did subscribe this year to NFL.com (cost
me 30), but I get to watch any game from the whole season in full
HD, plus I will be able to watch the playoffs and superbowl as
well. The only thing with online services is that you cant usually
watch the programing live or when its broadcast...usually its a wait
of about a day or so.

Now the kicker is how much do you watch? My online usage averages
80 - 120 GB of download every month. Most ISPs would crap their
pants and cancel your service for using that much. My ISP is a
local broadband wireless provider and they are really cool. I know
that the cable providers usually cap your bandwidth usage at about
20 GB, I am not sure about ATT DSL. A quick google shows they
don't seem to have a cap in place at this time, but might in the
near future...

If you have any other questions, let me know.

Roarke

Here's the Hughesnet link for those interested. http://welcome.hughesnet.com/

They say they are available everywhere. If you don't have any other service
available except for dial-up Hughes is OK. The only thing that drives me crazy
is the customer service out of India and the archaic download policy. If you
go
over your allotment they slow you down to dial-up speed for a up to 24 hrs. No
music or movie downloads except from 11pm to 3am when they have no restrictions
on download. That I won't miss.

Have a great day.
