Dear Richard,

I am not 100% sure, but I think that the button is not defined
correctly.

instead of "samenwerken" it should have something like "jump titleset 1
title 1;" (without the "" marks...)

Yes, the folder /home/rr/dvd/dvd/ exists, and it contains the three
files dvdauthor.xml, menu1-0.mpg and title0-0-0.vob.

dvdauthor.xml:

jump titleset 1 menu;

samenwerken

call vmgm menu 1;

All seems fine, as far as I can tell ... but then again, I'm not 100%
certain -- I don't use GUI apps to go digging deep into xml file formats
and commands. I'll check out what QDVDauthor does, though.

Thanks for the reply, best regards,

...sometimes i remember having some errors that would be because I had done
something with the folder or it was pointing to a wrong direction. I see
there are two dvd folders there, do they really exist? Check where the
dvdauthor.xml ism, if it is inside that folder. I know this sound stupid but
it was something I would do from time to time and then the program wouldn't

Hello,
Now that you mention dvdstyler: I have an annoying problem with it
(version 1.5.1), and perhaps someone here can tell me what goes wrong.
Adding m2v and ac3 files (rendered with Cinelerra), a background, and
buttons etcetera all works just fine, but when given the command to
actually burn a DVD, it encounters an error when executing dvdauthor:

Generating DVD
DVDAuthor::dvdauthor, version 0.6.14.
Build options: gnugetopt magick iconv freetype fribidi
Send bugs to <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

''
ERR: Parser failed on code 'samenwerken'.
Error executing dvdauthor -o "/home/rr/dvd/dvd/" -x
"/home/rr/dvd/dvd/dvdauthor.xml"

Does anyone know what causes this? It's a bit annoying, because it seems
my DVD project stumbles at one of the final hurdles ...

And oh, would using QDVDAuthor make any difference? I believe it also
relies on dvdauthor, so I wonder if it'll make a real difference ...

Thanks in advance,

Richard Rasker

I never learned use that program. Or atleast not yet. I felt it someway messy.
I'll give it a try on next project.

Actually I did want scene selection but I didn't kow how to do it so I just
drop it. My solution was to find some examples from the net and read man pages
and modify them. Lot of command line processing. and trial and errors. And if
my CPU could speak, it would whine about same jobs all the time :)

Anyway I have now the poster of the show and underneath there is two choises.
The show and teaser. Show has chapters beginning at every scene. DVD player
returns back menu after played title.
Oh and most proud I'm the 7 second audio loop. It should at leas get watcher
to choose what to watch. So irritating popsong.

I want to thank you guys for your pointers. I checked those aplications and
documentations and I feel I save time because of you. And I think I've learnt
something. And next project will be more beautiful and pro looking. Maybe I'll
share the Valencia 2007 Las Fallas fireworks with you :) The editing wont be
most important thing in that video :)

> Never could understand how to use DVDStyler though...

And first tool which was recomended by my friend for DVD creation was Pinnacle.
I tried and wished myself back home to my slow PC (Dualcore Opteron). School
has harder hardware for the rendering job.

I don't understand why it is so hard to support RAW, type 1 and type2 DV...

Qdvdauthor should do the job for you.

However, the description of the menu you provided is incomple.
Do you want buttons to go directly to chapters? or you simply
what thee titles with chapeters in them?
Do the titles have to play one after the other or at the end of each
it has to jump to the main menu? Think about this and qdvdauthor
mostlikely will do the job for you. Never could understand how to use
DVDStyler though...

Talking about GUIs, QDVDAuthor has always been very promissing but also very
unstable. I use and recommend DVDStyler (also based on dvdauthor), their
documentation is also quite clear and the software is really easy to use. If
you get the time to study spumux, dvdauthor and their xml, you'll be able to
get very far, I myself have made a DVD that had like 100 menus and about
3000 navigation buttons. It'll be easier though to do complex structures
like this via xml, not the GUI.

The only thing I still wonder how to do is to create the choice for the
subtitle on the menu, like chosing MENU -> SUBTITLES and from there chosing
"english, spanish, portuguese" and pressing play on the video. I'll be very
grateful if anyone knows hos to do this.

Also, a very simple hit-and-run program is ManDVD. The simplest, very
efficient for simple jobs, I used it to do a 3-monitor installation that had
to run three different videos in sync without pressing play on the dvd.

With dvdauthor (not qdvdauthor, so no fancy gui) you can just use a mpeg
file as the menu background.

A snippet of the dvdauthor xml file should look like this (assuming
this is menu #1 adressed in the section)

jump title 10;
...
jump menu 1;

QDVDAuthor is an excellent DVD
Authoring GUI that pretty much does it all. Its come a long way and will do
just about everything you need to do for your DVD's, including encoding the
video.

Re: [CinCVS] How do you make DVDs?

2007-12-07 Thread mhuhtala

Quoting Hannu Vuolasaho <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

Hi!

I have this small problem. In Cinelerras manual there is easy to
follow instructions to make DVD. On track has been enough for me. I
have this time edited the show ready and exported it to RAW DV.
interviews and bhind of scenes are different RAW DV clips.

Now I want to split it to chapters and burn it to DVD. I've been
reading different howtos trough but nothing answered my problem.

Title 1
chapter 1 scene 1 of the show
chapter 2 scene 2 of the show
chapter 20 scene 20 of the show
Title 2
chapter 1 interview 1
chapter 2 interview 2
Title 3
chapter 1 behind the scenes

Is there any easy way to get this kind of structure in DVD?

As you probably realize, Cinelerra itself does not include DVD
authoring. Once you have the video clips in MPEG2 format, you will
need to use dvdauthor or something like it. I did a DVD similar to
what you are describing (+ relatively complicated subtitling) by
writing the input file for dvdauthor in a text editor and using the
command line tools. This may or may not be 'an easy way' from your
point of view. There are several graphical user interfaces for
dvdauthor, so it should be possible to use it without writing the
input commands. I'm not familiar with the GUIs.

The somewhat sparse documentation for dvdauthor is at

http://dvdauthor.sourceforge.net/doc/index.html
