Hello again.

I have just finished uploading of my movie "Mansour" to archive.org.

Now you can watch it in full resolution with English subtitles.
http://www.archive.org/details/Mansour._A_Lyrical_Portrait_of_an_Artist

Click FTP or HTTP right of "All files" to get subtitles.

I'm all for easy solutions. You could also break it up into roughly
eight parts of less than 100MB each and load them into YouTube.

The Internet Archive does indeed build dedicated collections to projects
such as the Digital Tipping Point:

http://archive.org/details/digitaltippingpoint

The advantage of putting your work up on the Archive is that you get high
res, free hosting forever, plus a dedicated team to keep the server up, plus
an awesome indexing feature:

http://tinyurl.com/yluwoc

There are a few drawbacks to the Archive. One, they are not as heavily
trafficked as YouTube. Two, they have not built in mechanisms for form a
community, such as with YouTube. Three, the service is available only from
the US, as the Archive didn't want to have to deal with copyright laws
outside the US.

But overall, the Archive is a great service!

Have you considered putting the .iso file up on bittorrent?

There are hosts around, such as vps hosts, that will let you keep
persistent processes running. They wouldn't have a problem with you
seeding a torrent, especially since it's your own IP and totally legal.

It would just be a matter of paying for any excess bandwidth, and this
would be better than straight http since torrents share the bandwidth.

I've released a video file through Lulu and generally been pleased:
   http://www.lulu.com/content/602488

That one is set up to allow free downloads, though I think they require
some amount of registration process from downloaders. The Lulu system
also allows authors to set up for-a-fee downloads, or CDs or DVDs that
people can order for physical delivery. The prices are not super-cheap
but basically reasonable. This kind of thing would probably work well for
Cinelerra examples and code. The video I link above was made with
Cinelerra, but I can't claim it's a wondefully impressive example; it was
shot with a Web cam at a low frame rate and is mostly just a talking head.

See, the problem with large files isn't really the space, it's the
bandwidth that downloads will eat up. That costs in dollars (or
whatever your local currency is.)

Have you considered doing a dvd/cd release on one of the online
publishers? You make a small clip available for download, so that
people see enough to like or not like your film. Then you point them at

It's nice, because people with low bandwidth connections can get your

 Hi all,

(sorry, currently spamming the mailing list a little :)

having a look at the list of cinelerra productions already available,
I'd really like to share mine...

It's a little different format, though. 110 minutes feature film,
german language but subtitled in most scenes. It has been shown in
various (university) theatres across Germany and uses CC licenced
material exclusively.

You can get some impressions (still pictures) here:
http://www-users.rwth-aachen.de/jonas.wulff/mindcontrol/bilder.html

Further information (unfourtunately in german only) is available at
www.felsenhof-ag.de

The problem now is that unfourtunately we don't have the webspace
available to host the movie itself :( We planned an online
'release' (sounds bigger than it is) under CC but somehow didn't manage
it.

So the question is: Can anyone point me to a good webspace provider
(preferably cheap/free) that could host a movie file about 700MByte in
size?

Thanks -- I'd really like to show ;)

I rent a complete server that is located in a datacenter and i am the
only one using this server. It has a fast connection (up and down) and i
can decide how much room can be used for the Cinelerra blog. I think
it's best to put the video on youtube like systems, so the room needed
on my server is limited. When you use a content management system like
Wordpress, it is pretty easy to move the complete website because the
only thing you have to do is copy the files and the database. Don't
worry about the space available, at the moment i have several gb's
available.

Another option would be to get a free blog through Blogger.com and make
it a group blog that can be posted to by many authors, whoever on this
list would like to contribute. This way, you don't have to worry about

Also, as a user of Blogger, I have to say it is nice to have something

That's a generous offer Jeroen! I am wondering though, if it would be
more effective to have a "planet cinelerra" to aggregate related
blogs/youtube videos/podcasts etc.(http://www.planetplanet.org/) That
way people can use whatever blogging platform they want and there's
not much overhead for administration, just adding and removing feeds I
think.

I only know of one blog that covers cinelerra, the always informative
and beautifully presented http://crazedmuleproductions.blogspot.com
but if there are others out there it would be great to know about it.
There is also the fantastic video show http://www.thesourceshow.org/
which has great cinelerra tutorials (and I just noticed a new one
#3!). Since there seems to be more and more videos online that have
been created with cinelerra perhaps a Miro channel (formerly Democracy
Player) would work too?

If you set up a drupal or wordpress system people would need to
contribute to it regularly and also to manage the system, delete spam,
upgrade, manage accounts etc. I don't know how much work that involves
or if you're happy to do that or if it's more the hosting part that
you would like to provide. Naturally if there was an official
cinelerra blog that could also be part of a planet cinelerra.

Perhaps the first thing is to see if there are people who would like
to write regularly and put together a list of existing blogs which are
relevant, ideally on the wiki. Personally I'm not so interested in
writing regularly but I would write occasionally about cinelerra on my
own blog and I would be happy to set up planetplanet on my system to
see if there's any interest.

That could be a way to have both things: a freely editable blog and a
cv.cinelerra.org container.
Same destiny could have the Cinelerra Production Wiki page.

Cin is free-software thus an application with a soul. I think inevitable
that the Community needs communicating and sharing beyond the code
issues.
A blog is quite different from a Mailing List.
We could make them differ for style only or for topic too (the ML more
technical?)

I come from the analog world. I use Cin and I feel part of this
community because of its people, not because of its web software.
I participate only because I want to. Nevertheless I'm aware that
different web software causes different participation styles.

Ciao!
Raffaella

But you are right: it is not fair to play the lurker in this game.

well, we do have a web.often is aoudated, cause it's not
open.we need some wordpress or drupal with many
publishers.this way we could really be a community and show
cinelerra possibilities.

is anyone available to do that? i mean, hosting and installing?

ciao!

Hi all,

Raffaella I agree with you : it's important to see what can be done with
Cinelerra, and a place where people can go and have a look on
productions is a naecessary thing. (btw I can't see some cool italian
productions in this list).
BUT:
What do you think about making a weblog (a blog I mean) for Cinelerra
with a link on the cvs.cinelerra.org site web? I ask this question to
all developpers. This weblog could be a cool place to publish all new
events concerning Cinelerra (Community or hv version); that is new
users' productions, new features, projects, alternatives, howtos?, etc,
etc. Such a tool could permit discussions into the community, sharing
and could allow the keep in archives links of past events. I think a
weblog is worth a try. Don't you?

With regards

Roland C.
