Token Ring problem [7:27177]

2001-11-23 Thread Fanglo MA

Hi ALL,

I have been trapped by a Tokenring problem and seek for anyone
suggestions. I have token ring router and a Linux connected with a HP TR
Hub. From the indicator on the TR Hub I have told the connection and ring
insertion is ok. However, I can't ping from Linux box to the router. My
router does not have problem to ping to another 2502. All interfaces and
NIC are in same network/mask. From the router I obtain the mac address
correctly by sh arp except we can't ping !!!

Any idea?

Regards,
Fanglo

Your best bet would be to use BCC. It is a memory hog, but much easier to

function of loopback interface [7:27181]

2001-11-23 Thread Henk Wolf

From what I've read the functions/benefits of the loopback interface
includes that it provides an entry point for console based telnet
sessions in the event that all physical interfaces are down.

Why is this a benefit?

You can always connect through the console to configure the router
even if you do not have a loopback interface defined, can't you?

So exactly, what are the profits that this can be done telnet-based?

A practical example would be great.

TIA,
 Henk

RE: Cisco 700 series in Remote Access exam (640-505) [7:26975]

2001-11-23 Thread anil

The 1st router I ever set up was the Cisco 765.
At that time (3 years ago) it did *not* run the CISCO IOS.
I guess it still does not run the IOS.
It runs/ran a quirky version of the IOS.
So any questions they would ask you about the 7xx series would have to take
that into account (I guess).
Hope this helps

took the BCRAN tranning from cisco tranning center, they skip the subject.

Passed CCIE Written - Thanx [7:27194]

2001-11-23 Thread kaushik khakhar

Group,

I passed my CCIE Written today. 74 %. (ofcourse, first attempt!)

I referred the material mentioned below :

1. TCP/IP - Vol 2 - Jeff Doyle For BGP, and IP NAT - Excellent book

2. CCIE Study Guide - Todd Lammle, John Swartz - For all topics - I would
recomend a strong buy for this one. Be careful with some print mistakes!

3. Boson Test 1,2,3

4. TCP/IP - Volume I

5. Bridges, Routers, and Switches for CCIEs - By Caslow - Refer to
Dialup/ISDN/FR/OSPF configurations well.

For all of members on the group who are looking forward to this exam one
input I would like to give - Get the concept right for each protocol.

Well, its my last day before vacation. Six weeks with old friends and
dear ones in family!
I must not end, before leaving my sincere thanks to all on this group who
participate here with true sense of knowledge dissemination.

Hello, Fanglo.

Are there only two devices on the Token Ring? If not, does anything else
work?

What does the ARP table on the router and the Linux box look like?

What do the interface parameters on the Linux box look like (ifconfig -a)?

What does show interface tr0 show on the router?

RE: Passed CCNAamp;amp;amp;amp;CCNP in a month [7:27142]

2001-11-23 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Jeff

I couldn't agree with you more,
I have spent 8 months doing my CCNP and am very proud to attain this cert, I
studied every moment that I got and working 10 to 12 hours a day.
I still read up whenever I get a chance, and work really hard to gain as
much experience as I possibly can.

I personally would not like to see the status of cert to be watered down, so
please lets try and keep the value of this cert high.

Question
Is there a page that displays How many CCNA's NP's DA's DP's??

One thing I've learned in the past few years of networking, and hell, even
in life in general. If you have to CHEAT to get it, then you damn well
don't know it well enough to do normally.

Look at the MCSE, How many MCSE's out there went and bought cheat sheets
(no offense to the MCSE's on the list, but MCSE is like the A+, its so
utterly dilluted, it really does just look more like a paper cert then
anything else) and can't even change the desktop on a NT box? I know
plenty.

Do we want to see the CCNA/NP/DA/DP/IE become like this?

Cisco certs are susposed to carry respect with them (as should any cert,
but over time, people who just end up as paper certs remove alot of that
respect) and when crap like this comes up, it really does take away some
of the respect.

Sure, I understand that an IP address is a bunch of numbers seperated by
dots, does that mean I should be a CCIE? I think not.

*shrug*

Re: Passed CCNAamp;amp;amp;CCNP in a month [7:27142]

2001-11-23 Thread Henk Wolf

I find most people here are confusing certification with being knowledgeable.

If you are knowledgeable enough to do your job well, why go for the
certification anyway? Status?

On the other hand, employers ask for certifications more and more,
and mostly won't give you a job with a content or salary which is compatible
with the knowledge-level required for certifications,
at least when acquiring it the hard way.

The reason some certifications are easily obtained like MCSE, CNE and the
likes are that M$ and Novell are using the revenues for the certifications
as an extra source of income, without bordering to make good exams with a
database of 1 or more questions, which
not only depends on learning some facts.
Here lies the answer, just let M$, Cisco and so make the examquestion
database so extensive that learning the answers to all the question in fact
would be the same as learning all the relevant material without having
access to the exam qeustions.

Personally, I'm using a combined approach. I want to understand fully what I
learn and will learn more than strictly is necessary for the exam, but I
will use any good prep-exam/braindump in the days for my exam just to ensure
my efforts will yield the desired result.
