BGP Help! [7:70618]
Hi guys, What does this mean "BGP does not enable one AS to send traffic to a neighbor AS , intending that the traffic take a different route from that taken by traffic originating in the neighbor AS." Thank you very much! there are three kind of administrative distance for BGP: 1. external-distance: 20 2. internal-distance: 200 3. local-distance: 200 you can change that through the "distance bgp external-distance internal-distance local-distance" command For BGP the network used by the network x.x.x.x backdoor command will be treated as a locally assigned network except it will not be advertised via BGP updates. >Does the BGP backdoor command change the Administrative distance of EGBP >from 20 to 200 ? = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = VB @q#! chengpeng [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-06-13 Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=70615&t=70561 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

There's a telephony motto "once up always up." A typical critical component in telephony, brokerage, etc., is triple-redundant. 1 active component 1 hot standby 1 standby or in maintenance. Depending on the system design, you may loadshare among the working resources. The key design decision is whether your users can accept degraded performance if not all resources are usable. In operational scenarios, you might, for example, take a standby router down and upgrade the IOS. You'd then designate it as the standby, and take the previous standby down and upgrade it. You'd then switch from the active to the standby and upgrade the active. Now, whether or not your executives still want five nines after seeing the cost is another question. Not infrequently, the way to get this is not to do it all yourself, but put resources at colo centers that can amortize the highly redundant equipment over many customers. I think just about any short, straight-thru, flat satin cable will work just fine. Many of them have ferrite rings on them for noise reduction, I believe. In a pinch a straight thru Cat 5 cable would work just fine. There may be some technical reasons why you wouldn't want to use twisted pair cable, but I don't know about them. I try not to use UTP unless I have to, though. Someone else here is bound to have more technical details and they can fill in what I've neglected to mention or correct any mistakes I made. RE: RJ48-RJ48 cable [7:70596]
RJ-45 and RJ-48 as used for a T1 circuit are effectively the same. As long as the distance is not too great from the demarc to the router, Cat 5 UTP cable can be used. For long distances, shielded UTP is called for. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Thomas N Sent: Thursday, June 12, 2003 1:39 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RJ48-RJ48 cable [7:70596] Hi All, I am wondering what is the difference between the RJ48 and RJ45 connector/cable? 2501 Integration. [7:70594]
Dear all, Hello all.I am working for an ISP.We give Shared Internet connectivity to the Home Segment.I have got a MUX which has an E1 connected to it.Then there is a channel Bank through which the 64 KBPS DSL Modems are connected. From the RJ-45 in the modem additional Hubs are being connected through which the home segment is catered apart from persons who want dedicated 64 KBPS connectivity. Thats my Network. The issue that I have is that all the modems are scattered and this makes troubleshooting very difficult. So we are thinking of consolidating the Modems at the data center & from there connecting them to the required hubs spread across a radius of 500 meters. My network Design: ISP-E1-->MUX>MUX---Channel Bank---20 64 kbps DSL Modems with RJ-45->Connected to Various Hubs--->Distributed to various homes. I have a few questions that I would like the group to answer: 1.Is my network design in order? If not please give me suggestions. 2.If I want to consolidate the modems at the data center what has to be done. 3.Can I remove the channel bank.Use a Output from the Mux connect it to a switch and spread it to the various modems?? 4.I have an old 2501.How can I integrate it to my network?? I have read a lot of stuff but never have had the oppurtunity to implement the stuff. So I am stuck. Please help. RE: Traffic Shaping web traffic will this work? [7:70559]
(this from my usenet post on kazaa) apply source/dest ip when making traffic shaping decisions!) the problem is the response from the user in your org to the internet is not going back over port 1214.. usually it will hit 1214 and go back like 2000 to 4000 tcp (assuming windoze boxes) your best best is using "ranges" of a subnet or one whole subnet for just users.. then use traffic shaping to slow down bw upload... see (say users are .129 to .254 in 10.0.1.0/24 access-list 102 permit ip 10.0.1.128 0.0.0.127 any int s0/0 traffic-shape group 102 64000 8000 8000 1000 Just make sure to remember traffic shaping effect data going OUT of an Interface... also check order of operation, find out if nat comes before or after traffic shaping (i think after) then you would need to match THE IP the users nat to on your OUTSIDE interface.. BSTUN [7:70582]
This is a good one. I have a 3640 and a 1721 connected over point-to-point T1. Everything is up and up, no problems. Each of the routers listed above have another serial port. The 3640 is connected to an IBM host (9000) and the 1721 is connected to an ATM cash money machine (Diebold) (located at a bank). Everything on that circuit, which uses BSTUN tunneling through the HDLC is up and up...but I can not get the BSTUN peer groups to talk. I know that this scenario is pretty vague, but any input would help. I have peer groups, and static routes. But when I do a show bstun all I get is the IP address of my peer, and the fact that the tunnel is closed. I can ping, telnet, everything else, but I can not get the BSTUN to show a valid connection. It is a simple point to point setup. Any ideas? When I do a debug BSTUN events, debug BSTUN packets, debug BSC events, and debug BSC packets on my router with the AS400 connected, I do not see any traffic. This is my secondary router. (Does the polling). Would this be a problem on the AS400 or router? If the first interface specified with the set interface command is down, the optionally specified interfaces are tried in turn. http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios122/122cgcr/fiprrp_r/ind_r/1rfindp2.htm#1020572 Thanks...Nabil "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education." Re: Dynamic VLAN [7:70445]
Lo, Dynamic VLANs are based on MAC address, so a PC with one NIC will have one MAC even if you have two IP addresses configured on it. The switch will put the PC in the correct VLAN based on its database. The PC will end up in one VLAN, and as such will only be able to communicate with one of the servers. - Tom Lo Ching wrote: > Dear All, > > Suppose there is a PC have 2 IP address configured in single NIC (10.x, > 20.x) and connect catalyst 35xx switch that configured with dynamic vlan. > (NOT tagged) > > And there are 2 servers with IP 10.x and 20.x connected to the same switch > as well. I would have to agree with Dom. CBWFQ is probably your best bet as you can set up your classes for the various traffic types that you have sniffed out. RE: Problem with backup line... [7:70386]
Hi Iwan, I think you mentioned in your last mail that you were pinging serial interface's IP, and, I will presume that once the serial interface goes down, you can not ping it. So try pinging some IP sitting on remote side LAN, or some virtual interface IP at remote router. RE: Traffic Shaping web traffic will this work? [7:70559]
Something else to remember is that with web traffic, the outgoing request is tiny, the return traffic from the server is what is going to utilize the majority of the bandwidth. If you are going to use GTS, it only works on outbound traffic on an interface, so you would apply this to the Ethernet port that goes back to your users and would configure your access list to match any source using tcp port 80 to any destination any port. While using nbar on the router along with sniffers 90% of the traffic is web based and things like sql transfers and legitimate business traffic is timing out because of congestion basically the t1 is maxed out during working hours. At night legit traffic runs great no one in the office and no http traffic and things are great. I know this is a management problem about appropriate use and management knows also after I presented them with this data but they want to do something short term to throttle http traffic. Can I use generic traffic shaping like below so that http does not consume no more than half of the link see below. Example int s0/0 traffic-shape group 199 50 62500 62500 access-list 199 permit 80 any any On CCO I can only find this done with standard access-list nothing about extended access-list is mentioned that I can find. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1831/products_configur ation_guide_chapter09186a00800c60cc.html Thank you Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7&i=70577&t=70559 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: RE: (no subject) [7:70562]
bgp backdoor has got a specific use ..suppose you have a network that you have learnt both from igp(ospf) & egp(ebgp), then your router prepers egbp route as it is having less metric .If you want to force your router to prefer igp router, you need to add router backdoor entry in bgp config of your router ramesh ccnp "grant grant123nj" wrote: Hi, Srivathsan As I know, Cisco network backdoor command in BGP is to generate a local BGP route, of which administrative distance is 200. The only difference between the network and the network backdoor command is that the later route is not advertised to EBGP peer. RE: Cisco & Third Party H323 Device [7:70568]
Another good question? Cisco sent H323 calls via Destination-Pattern. Will Clarent still accept this? And between two different vendors, will the negotiation level be okie (during the calls setup).. Many thanks, you guys. Because my co-worker always argue with me, that between two vendors. You will need a gatekeeper between the call setup and call tear down are different. Is this true?
