Re: Cisco Certs Becoming Paper CCXX

2001-03-17 Thread Adele Galus

Hi Mike;

I find your comment very interesting, most positions state how
many years of experience before applying. The only exceptions
that I have seen with certification positions, is in the programing field.
It's not the certification being a problem - it's the resources for
people to obtain experience.

My thoughts are that there needs to be more labs for people to work in when
studying for their certification that are affordable or that it can be obtain.
People need to be involved with study groups and they should do volunteer
work or try working as a contractor.

This problem became obvious when Cisco & Microsoft started programs in
San Jose for the welfare people to start becoming certified. Why did they do
that

What amazes me is how these people, that you are seeing, have passed the test

my 03 cents worth.

respectfully,
adele

ISDN Configuration - Real Life

2000-12-18 Thread Adele Galus

Okay - I decided I need those experts again I have given it my
best.

I'm configuring an ISDN circuit on a 804 connecting a private network to
an
ISP using PAP authentication. My interface are up on the e0, bri0:1,
dialer0 &
virtual-access1 interfaces. My dialer shows commands indicates
successful connections.
I also have an Public IP address that was negotiated. Problem I have
is:
Unable to browse & retrieve email. I have done all of the debug
commands,
I have the LED lights on correct - OK, NT1, LINE, LAN, LK1, CH1.
IOS software 12.0.1. Any ideas??? Appreciate the help.
Thank you very much. Adele

Recruiters Comments!! [7:2310]

2001-04-27 Thread Adele Galus

I don't know if this is just me, Why, do the recruiters always asked
when
you indicate, CCNP in progress on your resume "When will you have it
finished?"
Is that going to make a difference whether I qualify for a position or
not?
I have two other major certifications and 4 years experience in the IT
field.

I'm wondering if it should even be mentioned???

I look forward to your remarks. Thank you.

Router Configuration

2000-07-14 Thread adele galus

Hello Everyone:

I would like to get your thoughts as to how I could solve this problem:

One Building with two lines brought in: ISDN & Frame Relay
Two Routers: 1601 & I don't know the other one

Services received: Two ISP's - Email Services with one and the other
provides www.

Customer wants to use one line for Email/e-commerce software traffic and
the other line exclusively for www.

How does the router get configured? Need the professionals here.
Help.. Thanks a million.

Re: Router Configuration

Those were my thoughts. Extended ACL with route-map. When I ran
it by another Network Engineer - he said it won't work. I don't really
understand why not? Appreciate the confirmation. Adele

The only thought on this is that I would deny the port 80 traffic but how
would it be redirected to the other router? Thanks, Adele

Monitoring New Circuit Install Software

2000-09-06 Thread Adele Galus

To those who have been there and done it!

Is there a monitoring software that will show connectivity on a circuit
that is just up and live
on a new install? For the most part what is used is the line command -
ping to the furthest point.
Any suggestions?

Much appreciated.

Configuring a DHCP Server using 3620

2000-09-09 Thread Adele Galus

Hi All;

I was looking for configurations on a 3620 to figure out how I can allow

for traffic when the DHCP is assign IP addresses. I have seen that
Cisco
has their version of DHCP but this is not for an NT box. Would I be
using an
access-list?

Also, when would you suggest using 192.168.0.0 vs 10.10.0.0 for setting
private on IP address on a DHCP? My thoughts make it simple for the
user.
Using the 10.10.0.0 should be used by the professionals.

I am on a mission. Appreciate the advice. Thanks a million.

Re: cidr,route summarization

2000-09-10 Thread Adele Galus

VLSM - Variable-length subnet mask. The ability to specify a different subnet
mask
for the same network number on different subnets. VLSM can help optimize
available
address space.

Route Summarization - The consolidation of advertised addresses in OSPF and
IS-IS.
In OSPF, this causes a single summary route to be advertised to other areas by
an
ABR (Area Border Router).

CIDR - Classless Interdomain Routing. A technique supported by BGP4 and
based on Route Agrregation. CIDR allows routers to group routes together in
order to cut down on the quantity of routing information carried by core
routers.
With CIDR, several IP networks appear to networks outside the group as a
single, larger entity.

These are all have to deal with scalability, addressing the various networks.

Categorize the study cases

2000-05-17 Thread adele galus

Hello CCDA's;

I was wondering when reading the case study on the exam
would it best to draw the topology or categorize the protocol,
equipment used, software & sites? My note taking is not the
best and would like to understand how to organize the info
in the best way.

Appreciate your input on this... Thanks a million.
