Subject: weird termsrv problem

I'm having a strange problem with my homelab 2511. Telnet sessions to the
terminal server just drop unexpectedly. No rhyme or reason to it. A 'clear
arp' command (from the console) allows me to access the terminal server
again.
No errors on the e0 interface are being generated. I've tried changing the
transceiver, cable, and moving to a different hub port, but none of those
changes seem to solve the problem. One of the weirdest 'flaky' problems
that
I've ever seen, and terribly frustrating because I can't diagnose the
problem
from the router. (next step: sniff the network)

Has anyone seen this kind of behavior before?

If so, what was the solution?

If not, what's your best guess at what the problem could be?

thanks in advance

Subject: Frame Relay Basics - Inverse-arp problem

Hi there,

I am trying to set-up the following Frame Relay config's on my routers:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/125/14.html#14-A

I am having a problem in not being able to see anything when I issue the
following command:

Spicey#show frame-relay map

In the above URL the output is listed as:

Spicey#show frame-relay map
Serial0 (up): ip 3.1.3.2 dlci 140(0x8C,0x20C0), dynamic,
  broadcast,, status defined, active

The serial 0 on my Spicey Router just keeps going up, down, up down, etc.
etc every 10 secs or so. The serial cable is connected and checked ok via
show controllers serial 0 as DTE.

The DCE clocking is not configured, nor is there a Frame Relay Switch in the
URL config's. I can't quite understand how the dynamic mapping is taking
place in the URL and why I am not seeing Inverse-arp working?

Any responses appreciated.

Thanks Regards,
Ash

Re: Why 8 wires in RJ-45?

2000-09-25 Thread Ajaz Nawaz

David

100BaseT4 uses a standard RJ-45 connector with the same pinout as the
10BaseT specification, plus two bidirectional pairs (transmit on 1 and 2,
receive on 3 and 6; bidirectional on 4 and 5; bidirectional on 7 and 8).

Future Needs. You are right that 10BaseT and 100BaseT do not use more
than
4 wires, but 100VGLAN and 100Base4 do. Those specifications used the
extra
wires to transmit data at a slower speed. When you add up the additional
data lines multiple, 4, by the slower speed, 25Mb, you get 100Mb
 transmission rate.

FYI: 100Base4 was designed to run 100Mb over Cat 3 wiring.
