 Hi All

I have a lab dates for 10 April and 22 Feb I would like to swap with anyone
from 5 March onwards. (Not both in my name - so no violation of only one
booking at a time). Earlier the better.

I will even throw in some study notes...

Sydney only pls.

Thanks

Re: Why the format is different for my 1900 and 2900

2000-08-10 Thread BIKEMAN

The 1900 and 2900 dont run the same software.

There are even two sets of 2900's - each with a different command set. Which
one of them shares with the 5000. Etc Etc Etc

A good guide to all of this apart from the CD or CCO (which has everything
you want) was the CLSC course material for the CCNP 1 exam. A lot easier to
read on the train than a laptop running the cd. ;-)

The functions are very similar for all the switches so using the same logic
you should be able to figure anything out using the manual or CCO. Came
across an old 3xxx switch - took 20 minutes of digging on the CD to find the
password recovery procedure. And another 5 to figure out when they said
press "break" they actually meant a button on the router as opposed to
alt-break (blush).

Telco ATM to Frame conversion

2000-08-11 Thread BIKEMAN

Hi all

I'm currently desgning a network with 200 sites
connecting via frame relay to the three core sites with the core being a
fully meshed ATM switched network (Xylan layer 2 and 3 ATM switches).

What I'm wondering about and haven't had much luck
finding out from the telco's is whether inverse arp will still be working ?
My opinion is that the inverse arp might have some problems - with the
layer 3 switches I think things might get a little complicated (I am
disabling inverse arp on the routers)

I realise this depends mostly on what the telco is
doing to convert the frame to ATM, but any info or anecdotes you might have
about similar things would be welcome.

Regards

Rudi Meyer

Slow ISDN transfer

2000-05-30 Thread BIKEMAN

Hi All

I configured a 2503 for a customer today using ISDN
to connect. Everything is fine, DNS resolution is happening, can connect to
everything BUT transfers seem to be slow - a modem like 5k ! I did a standard
config, nothing fancy except for NAT so I am sure the router is not being
overworked (small site with 3 users) - any ideas of what I can look at
?

Thanks

ISDN problems

2000-06-04 Thread BIKEMAN

Hi all

Thank you for your help on the speed of the ISDN
connection. Most helpfull.

I'm afraid that my woes continue - the link is
working fine, authenticated, can reach anything I want to, resolve to the DNS
servers at the ISP, use the ISP's proxy but occasionally for a few minutes the
workstations using the link cant access anything. I can still ping the ISP from
the router but not from the workstations.

I'm not really sure if this is a router problem or
a result of using the remote proxy but here is the meat of my
config:

Re: ISDN problems

Hi Brad

All gateways on the workstations are OK. The problem happen intermittently
where a workstation loses its connection to the remote proxy. I suspect some
kind of timeout on the remote proxy. It comes back by itself after a while.

Hi all

I have two 2nd hand 2501's that are giving me a few
headaches - when I plug the console cable into the console port I can see the
output but the routers don't seem to accept any input. The cable and laptop are
fine since I use the combination on a number of other routers without any
problems.

Any ideas ?

CCIE Groupstudy - Just for Nigel

2000-06-13 Thread BIKEMAN

Hi all

As I have been waiting for ages to get onto the
CCIE list I thought I might as well get everyone who is about to do their lab
together for a little brainstorming about preparation.

My preparation is as follows:

Doyle
Caslow
Hutnik

I also have been reading selectively from Halabi,
Thomas, CCIE case studies and Cisco Lan Switching. For labs I have been looking
at Fatkid and Cetificationzone. My concerns at this stage are the common ISDN,
ATM, VOICE lack of equipment. I'll try to do as much as I can of this in the
Cisco practise lab.

What are you doing for preparation ? Any great
sites, labs etc you can recommend. Lets pool our knowledge and get this done
before it becomes any harder.

Hi Zack

The console cable and port work fine (9600 baud etc - have even tried other
baud rates in case someone changed the default) - I can plug it into one of
the other routers and it works fine for hours. Nothing I type has any effect
including carraige return.

Thanks

Re: Is this true?

2000-06-14 Thread BIKEMAN

Hi Victor

It is true. BUT, it is not simply a financial issue (although pursuing the
CCIE is very expensive). The CCIE is a vast magnitude harder than the CCNA.
And thats just the written ;-).

If you feel confident in your ability to chart the unknown by all means go
for the CCIE. There is very little usefull information out there compared to
the other certifications - pretty much KNOW IT ALL. I am currently studying
for my lab and my mood goes from: I'm going to do this to: What the hell do
I think I'm doing.

Read though the groupstudy archives, have a look what people who passed it
have to say about their experience and preparation and decide if you are up
to the task. Whatever path you choose: GOOD LUCK.

Console problem

2000-06-25 Thread BIKEMAN

Hi all

I have two 2nd hand 2501's that are giving me a few
headaches - when I plug the console cable into the console port I can see the
output but the routers don't seem to accept any input. The cable and laptop are
fine since I use the combination on a number of other routers without any
problems.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Rudi

Re: Cisco Documentation CD

2000-06-26 Thread BIKEMAN

Here is a workaround that has worked for all my machines.

Cheers

Rudi

Installing Cisco Documentation CD in Windows 2000

*** IMPORTANT NOTE -- PLEASE READ ***
These instructions are NOT recommended or supported
by Cisco. They are not guaranteed to work and may
messup your computer. The recommended solution is
to run the CD on one of the supported operating
systems or to wait until the next release of the
Documentation CD which will support the Windows
2000 operating system. If you choose to use these
instructions, you do so at your own risk.

1. Read the IMPORTANT NOTE above.

2. Edit the Windows 2000 Registry Key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/IE4/Setup/Path
Change the value from "%programfiles%\Internet Explorer"
to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer" or wherever IE
is installed on your machine.

3. Uninstall the Cisco Documentation CD

4. Sometimes you will also have to manually delete
files or directories from the original installation
of the CD.

5. Re-install the Cisco Documentation CD and it
should work.

Re: Scrambled Email

James - let me just clarify - he can actually read all his emails - just
gets problems when printing ?

If so sounds like a printing problems, not a connection problems... Check
the printer drivers etc...

Re: Scrambled Email

2000-07-05 Thread BIKEMAN

James

This is off topic for this list being a Cisco study list.

But, thinking back to my MCSE days I suggest you get the latest printer
drivers from the printer vendor (make sure to upgrade the drivers on the
print server etc) - this should fix the problem. If not email me privately.
