If you do not have an OS on the system and you cannot assign an ip address
to an interface, you cannot get to a tftp server.

Brad:

Why would we not use tftpdnld in this case? I know that 3640, and 2600
supports it, so I am fairly certain that the 3620 supports it as well.

I have replaced flash on many routers and have never used xmodem to do it.

xmodem download the new code via a console cable. you might want to change
your config-reg to support 115.2kbps (it speeds the process up quite a bit).
send down a small IOS (IP feature set only) and then boot that image and
TFTP the image you actually want on the box. xmodem downloading the code
takes a while, as it downloads it into RAM first, and then writes it to the
flash sector by sector (or something to that extent)

Ken,

What are you wooried about, there are going to be like 500,000 to a
million new Hi-Tech jobs next year and it is only going to increase, plenty
for you, me, and anybody else that wants one that is qualified. As far as
training Americans, well hey I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth,
actually I was poor, didn't have the money to go to college, instead I got
my training from the military. What I am saying is that if there is a will
there is a way. Stop being so lazy and expecting everything to be handed to
you on a platter. That is why it is called "working for a living". Besides
if foreign competition makes you and me work harder to learn more and to be
more imagnative then I welcome it. Welcome to the real world where things
hardly ever, ever go your way.

I agree and disagree with you Ken.
Yes its the choices people make, ie, high-tech careers vs driving a truck.
However its the big money corporations that want to keep salaries down that
lobby to bring in H-1Bs.

HOWEVER hope is not gone.

XEROX has said it will not and does not hire any H-1Bs. They believe that
American companies should be hiring, and training if necessary, Americans.

Hopefully this will spread.

download it and I can no longer find it. Have they stopped giving this away

What you are proposing is not help, but a method of cheapening the
certification for those of us who have worked and studied hard to achieve
our goals. A person will find greater worth in something if they have to
work to attain it, instead of having it given to them. You cheapen the
certifications and anyone you "assist" in this manner (yourself included).
This list IS about helping others, not about helping each other to "cheat"
more effectively. I find your commentary about about Mr. Haun to be as
offensive to me, as his language was to you (FWIW, I do not approve of his
language, only the sentiment expressed by it).

This message is for Mr. Frank Haun.

Our elders tell us to think before speaking but
probably that doesn't apply to idiots like you because
that would require grey matter inside your skull which
you don't have. It is very easy to make enemies but it
takes courage to make friends. I am quite sure you and
Muhammad or for that matter I don't know each other,
then where is this hatred coming from Mr. Frank Haun.
Do you feel so insecure about your skills that you are
afraid that helping others to pass CCNA or CCNP will
jeopardies your job. I subscribed to this mailing list
to help and be helped. But if someone out there needs
help, how does it matter if they get little feed back
from this forum. So for next time I hope you will use
what ever is left of your grey matter in the benefit
of others. I really respect those who post answers on
this forum knowing they will not get anything out of
it.

It is definitely the transition from an up state to a down state and back
up. If you have a router with multiple carrier transitions, turn on logging

Hello colleagues,

do you know what causes carrier transitions on a serial interface ?
Is it when the serial status changes from up/up to up/down, or when it
changes to down/down, or both ?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Sentiment echoed. Relax, and leave your ego at the door. Too often, the
finger is pointed at someone else, but in reality, when looking in a mirror,
the finger is pointing at you. Failure is so much a part of growing,

Master's hand. When I finally do, there is no need for an ego, pride, or
the need to prove myself to anyone on this list or any other peers I may
have looked up to or admired. I will have the skills to climb the ladder in
this field of EXPERTISE.

With all due respect, and while feeling your pain, may I suggest that you
overestimated your own ability, underestimated the test, and it is more than
likely you really were not prepared?

Dumb luck says my 12 year old son can get a 25% on the test. We have had
reports on this group of newly minted CCNA's with minimal experience getting
40-50%.

Is it possible that you lack that little something, that whatever it is that
separates a big leaguer from a triple A player?

Is it possible that CCIE's really do know more than ordinary people? Even
ordinary people with several years experience?

Good luck to you on your next try. Hope you pass.

I just want to say for the record that this exam is a bunch of B.S. All
you tell you why. I took this test like a cuople weeks after I finished my
CCNP/CCDP just to see where I stand and what I need to hit for this thing.
Let me say that the CCIE exam 350-001 is highly overraded. So I scored a
modest 60% the first time. Not bad for not really studying and just going
off of experience and Theory. The problem I have is after studying for what
I needed and knowing that I was going to tear this test a new A-hole I went
in took the test and did everything the same except in the questionaire
that I filled out I marked that I was proficient in alot more areas than I
did the first time. The result well after blazing through the test in an
hour and feeling DAMN confident that I got at least a 90% on the sucker I
ended up getting a 58%. I WAS LIVID I was like what the hell??? I got
ROBBED!!! I only missed honestly like 5 questions. I can recite the whole
damn test in my sleep! I don't understand! I am so dman fustrated I can't
even see straight. Why am I writing this? Well I want to know do they
gauge or do anything weird with what you mark for what are you are
proficient in, in the questionnaire in the beginning of the test Like
weighingthe questions differently the second time around or something weird
like that...

Somebody tell me
PS. The Exam Cram for the exam is excellent as usual.

(tongue firmly in cheek)

I have this theory that you can call yourself and internetworking
engineer when . . . .

1. You have run a debug command on a customer router while
investigating a performance problem, or perhaps a security issue, and
you have caused the CPU to exceed 100% and the router has hung/crashed.

2. You have edited an ACL remotely and reapplied it only to find you
have blocked all traffic including telnet from your desk and you are
now locked out.

3. In both of the above scenarios you have made up some story for the
Help Desk/1st Line Support and asked them to get the customer to reboot
the router, claiming that "a reboot may help the performance problem .
. blah . . blah"

4. In each of points 1 & 2 the customer in question is a major account
that has threatened legal action against your company for failing to
maintain SLAs, or to close the account altogether.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Have you every felt that cold
feeling in the pit of your stomach when you entered a command and the
screen froze? Did you blame hardware/software/customer/gremlins i.e.
anybody and anything but not yourself?

;-)

Call up Cisco at 1-800-553-NETS and order the part. You pay only shipping.
If your equipment is under smartnet, you don't even pay that. I believe the
part number is BOOT2500=

Oh, BTW, you need something called a PLLC chip extractor to pop the old
proms. Good luck finding one. :->
