Re: telnet session timeout [7:29028]

2001-12-13 Thread Chris Theiss

You might want to consider setting the exec-timeout to a really high timeout
interval
rather than setting it to "never." If you're not careful to end your
session normally,
it's possible to fill up all your vty slots with idle sessions and prevent
yourself
from telnetting to the box.

Not that I've burned myself doing that or anything...;-)

Frame relay switching question [7:29435]

2001-12-17 Thread Chris Theiss

I have a little lab set up to play around with frame-relay traffic
shaping. I have 3 2501's linked up, with the one in the middle
configured as a frame relay switch.

Is there a way to configure the middle router to insert fecns and becns
as it switches the traffic?

You're right. They max out at 8MB flash. Here's the link on CCO (mind the
wrap):

Re: how to put loop on a link?? [7:29470]

2001-12-18 Thread Chris Theiss

Assuming the NTU is managed by you (and not the telco), you should be able
to set up a
loop on the serial line by changing a setting on the NTU. It should give
you the
option to set up a loopback facing the WAN or facing the DTE (your router).
Look at
the documentation for your NTU.

Re: Any idea how to configure ISDN backup with day time [7:29668]

2001-12-19 Thread Chris Theiss

Looks like the link in my original post got stripped out. Oops!
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/793/access_dial/10.html

You can restrict the interesting traffic to specific time(s) of the day with
the
time-range command. The above link explains it pretty clearly. In case the
url gets
stripped out again, go to CCO and do a search on time based acl. It's the
first page
that comes up in the results.

the 60-pin
variety, but it looks like they have smart serial versions too.

If you have the tools, you can make a T1 crossover cable pretty easily:

Re: Convert Voice T1 to Fram-Relay T1? [7:25063]

2001-11-02 Thread Chris Theiss

It's probably technically possible, but very impractical, at least from
the perspective of dealing with the lec (billing issues, opening trouble
tickets, etc). You'll save youreself lots of headaches by cancelling
the voice T1 and ordering a new data circuit. Unless you have no other
option, I wouldn't recommend trying it.
