Question about moving PVC's. [7:28062]

2001-12-04 Thread CiscoG

Hey all. I have a question regarding Frame Relay PVC's. Let's use the below
as an example;

   NY (dlci 300)
 |
  /\
(dlci 301)CH SF (dlci 302)

In a Hub+Spoke topology, NY is the hub in this example. What I am unclear
of is: is it possible for myself to reconfigure the routers to make CH (dlci
301) the hub and the rest Spokes? Or do I have to call the Frame Relay
provider and have them move the circuits for me???

Thanks in advance for your help!

let's talk about BGP! [7:10297]

2001-06-28 Thread CiscoG

Hello fellow successful Engineer's;

For all you BGP gurus, I have a situation here. Currently
preparing for my BSCN exam, I have a lab at home that I recently implemented
BGP on. With only 3 routers, it worked fantastic! Then I decided that wasn't
good enough and now I wanted to setup a Route Reflector. In a Hub and Spoke
topology, I chose to make the Hub router the Router reflector and have the
two spoke routers clients. Performing a show ip bgp neighbor on each
router, displays the correct information and verifies connection is
established. The problem is, not one router is learning any BGP routes! I
will post my basic BGP configuration below just to verify that is correct.
Any ideas on this challenge would be appreciated! Thank you!

Actually I have configuring these once or twice. Save your money on the book
below Phil and buy this one;

need in regards to ANY access-lists and even traffic policing and queuing.
Simply fantastic!

Agreed- but do you know how to configure CBAC, reflexive access-lists, do
you know what the IP inspect statements mean how they effect the config
??? The CCO is mediocre @ best the first book released on this topic is
on backorder (I got a first edition copy though :o)

I do agree with your postion though, I just think it's a legit method given
the circumstances

This is in no way a Flame Phil, but IMHO I feel it would be much more
beneficial and certainly educational to understand and learn how the IOS
commands and configurations work. That's the only way we learn.
ConfigMaker
will make you dumb for lack of a better word. You don't learn anything
from using configmaker and it has its limitations. If you wanted to learn
and understand how to subnet, would you use an IP Subnetting calculator or
would you learn decimal-binary, binary-decimal conversions so you could do
it on paper? In my eyes, that's how we learn.

that it is possible.
Any help would be appreciated.

Can you explain to me how you can telnet into the router if all
interfaces fail with the exception of the loopback interface? If ALL
interfaces fail, the only way you can get to the router is via console or
AUX. And you call yourself a CCNP. No wonder the value of Cisco
certification value (with the exception of the CCIE) is becoming less
 desirable these days.

A loopback interface may be used for many purposes. You may use it as
the end of a tunnel on a VPN configuration or you may configure
it just to have a stable router-id for OSPF, for instance.
You don't need to configure it. They are optional and you may use any
address you want. If loopback intfs are following a specific
address scheme in your network, then they must be planned for some
specific function by who designed the network. You should not
change it before knowing what function is this (what may be
achieved by analyzing your configuration carefully). The
subnet mask used on a loopback intf isn't also necessarily /24. This
is frequently used though, to economize address space, since you
don't need to differentiate network and host on this segment. In
this case, host and network are the same and routing is performed
with no problem. ER CCNA - Original Message

anyone explained its function? Can we don't configure the loopback

we use private IP? I found I can telnet to a remote router using
its loopback IP. But I wonder How I route as it always have the
subnet mask of 255.255.255.255. Then which is the network and

RE: e-mail encryption [7:9109]

PGP from Network Associates will do the trick. However, we are using it now
and quite frankly, I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy! The most complex,
troublesome and administrative disaster this software has proven to be!!!
But, if you're looking for e-mail encryption, certificate servers, etc...And
your company has about $12,000 and 4 weeks to spare, then PGP by NA will
serve you well.

Does anyone use any type of e-mail encryption for their entire company. I
have been asked to implement some type of program whereby all the e-mail the
is sent out is encrypted. Is this possible? I know that you can encrypt
between users that have one anothers' public keys but can you encrypt
anything that you send to those that don't even use encryption?

Thanks

RE: How to create latency? [7:7313]

2001-06-10 Thread CiscoG

SolarWinds.net makes this great utility called a WAN killer. We use it
on occasion to flood certain links up to 150% of it's capacity to test our
failovers. It's a fantastic utility and you can see and monitor it all in
real time.

I used an Adtech SX12 to do exactly this. A little more expensive then
back-to-back cables. But well worth the cost if you need to put together new
applications to run over low bandwidth satellite links.

FXS to FXS VoIP via a 350ms Delayed link worked wonderfully.

Anyone know of a cheap way to generate latency over a back to back 2621
 serial configuration?
I would like to test the effect of controllable latency on some apps
without
having to stick a box a thousand miles away.

Makes a change to actually request latency in a network anyway!
