Re: CCNA books Sybex or Cisco press ?

2000-07-30 Thread Douglas James Howe

Personally I am studying to take the CCNA WAN Switching exam next fall, were
some of the material learned will cross over to the CCNP WAN Switching exam
for specialization after completion of the CCNP exams. I have heard a good
place to start studing for the CCNP exams is the BSCN. I figure I will
study the old ACRC books by Cisco Press and Todd Lamle, then save up and buy
the other newer books. I am also going to buy the older CLSC book since I
know that has good material in it.

Re: CCNA passed

2000-07-19 Thread Douglas James Howe

I scored a 934/1000 for the CCNA 2.0 exam...my reward is that I get to take
it again before I graduate since I have over 2 years of college left and
need to keep the certification currentboo hiss.Taking Cisco 3
and 4 at college and by the time I am done with that they will be offering
Cisco 5 through 8 to prepare for the new CCNP exams. Personally I am still
worried that I won't be able to find a job when I graduate...by then I will
have gone almost 10 years without employment with no networking experience
in my background.

Can some one make a donation

2000-06-28 Thread Douglas James Howe

I am currently being sponsored by Vocational Rehabilitation to go to college
for networking. I have not worked since 1996 and can't afford to buy an old
router to practice on. If some one has some old equipment they don't care
about I could sure use it...after graduation I will give it to Voc. Rehab.
so some one else can use it.

Re: Logon to NT Server?

ip helper-address [ip address of the server]
In a Windows NT 2000 environment you need to add WINS by going into the Add
New Programs dialog box. LMHOSTS is easy...best for you to use the help
system and a default LMHOSTS file is already on the server...do a search for
it then modify the file once you understand what you are doing.

Forgot to post good news.

2000-06-22 Thread Douglas James Howe

I found out that I passed the CCNA 2.0 beta exam, with a score of 934/1000.
And I finally got my CCNA kit. The bad news is I have 2 years of college
left and will probibly have to take it again by the time I graduate. I am
studing now to take the CCNA WAN switching exam next fall since I will be
presuing the CCNP WAN switching cert. after I complete the initial 4 exams
to become a CCNP.

Could someone please tell me how many tests there are in the CCNA track?
I
have been reading Cisco Press' Introduction to Cisco Router Configuration,
but, oddly, nowhere in this book can I find anything but the most general
informatin on obtaining this certification. Thanks in advance.

2000-06-18 Thread Douglas James Howe

I have a cable modem and I would like a clear explanation on how to set up N

e server hooked up to it. The server has 2 NIC cards. The USB 10/100 SMC i
s connected directly to the cable modem. The other NIC card is dynamic, run
ning DHCP on the server. Do I also set up DNS etc.

Thanks to anyone who helps me.
