PIX Questions [7:65806]

2003-03-19 Thread Guruprasad Sanjeevi
Hi group,

I have a few questions

1. Is PIX a Router?
2. How different is a PIX and Router in handling NAT PAT?

For the 2nd question is I have a pix and 5 valid ips (range) for my
internal network to access the internet. It allows only 3 machines at
any time to
 Access the internet

I added a global command and all machines are able to access the
internet. Can anyone throw some light on how PIX handles PAT and how
different it is from a router
 Handling PAT?

 Anticipating a reply

RE: PIX to Router -Urgent [7:61450]

2003-01-22 Thread Guruprasad Sanjeevi
A basic question to group and u.
My internal network is 192.168.50.x my valid segment is 210.4.51.x
network on which my internet router lies. To access these 2 networks I
have linux machine with 2 NIC's one for 50.x and another for 210.x which
is enabled as a router firewall. When I try to ping from my inside
network i.e 1.x to my 210 network will the source ip address change? OR
what would be the ip address of any packet coming out of the linux box?

Sorry if this a very basic question .Need explanation

Expecting a reply

Thanks
Guruprasad

I don't have access to the book u mentioned. Still waiting for an
example

Need a solution [7:58447]

2002-12-03 Thread Guruprasad Sanjeevi
Hi group,

  Howdy?

I have my branch office located in India and our headquarters in US
.The offices are connected via 512kbps IPLC. These offices have their own
separate Internet links. Now we are opening one more office in India.
We need a solution like this...

The existing office is going to be connected with our new
office by a leased line. This leased line is an E1 line. The new office will
also have an IPLC connected to our HQ in US. We have the following
requirements...

1. The existing office and new office should have voice and data
(obviously) connectivity via the leased line
2. A receptionist is not going to be in new office. Hence all calls for
new office will land in the existing office and then gets transferred to the
new office
Via the leased line. This is where I am stuck On how to
integrate data/voice and POTS voice using the same leased line.

3. Redundancy needs to be enabled for each other. i.e. If the IPLC is
down from existing office to US , automatically it has to take the new
office IPLC to
Communicate to US and it's the same for the new office

Please give in your suggestions/advices/comments. I would be glad to
receive all your replies.

 Regards
 Guruprasad

question on Nortel networks [7:58162]

2002-11-26 Thread Guruprasad Sanjeevi
Hi all,

I have a Passport MUX 4460 and Merdian option 11c at one of my branch office
and same Nortel passport 4460 and an INTERTEL PBX at our New York office. We
have 512Kbps IPLC connecting these 2 offices . When call is received from
US the voice is clear , but when we call from our India office to US people
complain a lot of Delay, Flipping and the voice quality is very poor.

We escalated this issue to our Vendor and Nortel they did some configuration
changes, and now the users feel the voice quality is better but still not
upto the mark. If anyone can suggest a Nortel newsgroups or mailing lists on
any site OR if anyone handling Nortel devices can tell me what parameters to
change for improving the voice quality.

Any help is appreciated. Waiting for all your answers

Guruprasad

With PIX unable to reach DMZ from LAN [7:55608]

2002-10-14 Thread Guruprasad Sanjeevi

Hi group,

I am trying to configure PIX .It has 3 Ethernet Interface and three
networks are used.

LAN (inside) : 192.168.11.0
DMZ (perimeter)) : 192.168.23.0
Outside:66.x.x.x

Problem : users from Inside and Perimeter network are able to browse, but
the inside and Perimeter network cannot talk to each other. I have given the
static command like this

Static(inside, perimeter) 192.168.23.0 192.168.11.0 0 0

What other command is required on the PIX to enable communication from
INSIDE network to DMZ(perimeter) and vice-versa.

Please help

Thanks

Hi theo, and all,

I am giving the configuration.

global (outside) 1 66.x.x.x - 66.x.x.x netmask 255.255.255.224

global (perimeter) 1 192.168.23.10-192.168.23.20

nat (inside) 1 192.168.11.0 255.255.255.0 0 0

nat (perimeter) 1 192.168.23.0 255.255.255.0 0 0

static (inside,outside) 66.x.x.x 192.168.11.x netmask 255.255.255.255 0
0

static (inside,outside) 66.x.x.x 192.168.11.x netmask 255.255.255.255 0
0

static (inside, perimeter) 192.168.23.0 192.168.11.0 netmask
255.255.255.0 0 0 - If I am not wrong , this command enables the
communication between LAN and DMZ, but here it fails..

conduit permit tcp host 66.x.x.x eq x any

conduit permit icmp host 192.168.11.x any

conduit permit tcp host 66.x.x.x eq x any

conduit permit tcp host 66.x.x.x eq sqlnet any

route outside 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 66.x.x.x 1

I

What is that companion command ? Please help

you will need to explictedly grant permission for the DMZ to communicate
to the Internal since lower security interfaces are automatically
blocked Higher ones.

Can you access from the Outside? Try it and see.

Can you print out the config without the real IPs? You need to have a
companion command to the Static command and I would like to see if you
have it.

Cheers,

Theo
