BRI interface

2001-01-24 Thread Hubert Pun

Hi,

I have a Cisco 2503 and a Cisco 2522DC router. They both have BRI
interface. However, how can I check out that whether they are U
interface or S/T interface? The cisco web site just says that this is a
BRI interface without specifying what kind it is.
(Both routers are for Canada routers)

Thanks

Portable IP address

Anyone have heard of this term? I heard that anything smaller than
204.255.255.255 are portable and anything larger than 206.0.0.0 is
non-portable. I was told that this is an industry standard between the
several large ISP. (i.e. not the real "RFC" standard). Is that true?

OSPF authentication

2001-02-08 Thread Hubert Pun

I have the two statements on my routers:
 ip ospf message-digest-key 1 md5 cisco

It works on routers A and B, but does not work on routers C, D.

So I wonder that anyone have known that there is some problem with some
of the software that does not support OSPF authentication.

both routers C and D are Cisco 2500 with version 11.3

Token Ring Interface down/down

2000-12-09 Thread Hubert Pun

According to the Token Ring section of the certificateZone.com, there is
no "no keepalive" equivalent. I need to connect to the MAU to get the
interface be up/up.

I have tried that and it does not work. I have set the "ring speed 16"
already. does anyone know why? And what kind of cable to connect to
MAU? cross over or straight through?

Token Ring help needed

2000-12-11 Thread Hubert Pun

Hi,

I sent an email last saturday asking for how to make the TR interface be
up/up.

I connect my token ring interface to MAU with just a straight through
cable (and I am NOT connected to the Ring In or Ring Out)

The MAU is IBDN (NORDX/CDT). that is all I can find about the MAU
info. It is a silver color box, about 22cm by 25cm and is 3cm high.
There are 8 slots plus RI and RO. Is anyone using the same one?

My goal is just to make token ring interface be up/up so that I can do
some DLSw or SRB. What else should I do (besides hook up the cable to
MAU and set the ring speed) in order to be up/up state?

Thanks in advanced

Doyle's book (too detail and too good for the written)

Caslow book (ok, but too many editing error and too easy on the WAN, Routing

certification zone (harder than the real one)
All-in-one Lab book (which does not really help for the written).
exam-cram (too easy, not useful)

the courses that I took are ACRC, BCMSN, BCRAN and BGP courses.

BGP Loopback Update-source

2000-09-14 Thread Hubert Pun

Hi,

I am using the two loopback as the update sources between two BGP
external peers. And I also have a OSPF running so that the routing
table for both router realize the other router's loopback

Router 1:
router bgp 2
 neighbor 10.44.1.1 remote-as 1
 neighbor 10.44.1.1 update-source Loopback1

Router 2:
router bgp 1
 neighbor 10.33.1.65 remote-as 2
 neighbor 10.33.1.65 update-source Loopback0

however, the bgp state is Idle, instead of establish. Is it a bug in
the cisco software?

Thanks

Regarding about my BGP update source problem, I get suggestion that I need to

Why do I need that statement if I am using loopback on both sides instead on

Re: Multiple default gateways, same result?

2000-10-03 Thread Hubert Pun

If you specify the next hop IP address, then the static route would have admin
distance = 1 (so the "1" at the end of your config is redundant)

If you specify the out-going interface, then it would show up as connected in
routing table.

There is no point to put the "ip route 10.48.2.0 255.255.255.0 ethernet0"
because it is also redundant.

urgent help needed: rommon 1 >

2000-11-04 Thread Hubert Pun

The Cisco 3620 router boot up as the above prompt "rommon 1 > "

Is it because the IOS image is gone? or is it because I typed something
at the boot up process and make it to be like this?

In this prompt,
How can I check what IOS image my router is having now?
and how can I download IOS image, in case that the IOS image is
corrupted, to router? Previously I used "copy tftp flash" in the normal
prompt. What command to use in this rommon prompt?

Thanks in advanced

Hubert

Lab exam

2000-11-17 Thread Hubert Pun

Any one know what to expect on the lab exam?
for example, out of 100 points
how many points are BGP?
how many points are SNA or DLSw?
how many points are IPX?
how many points are OSPF? (is it still 20?)
how many points are Catalyst?
what equipment to expect? (according to the website below, there will
only be 2500, 3600, 4000 and Cat 5k)
how many points are ATM?

I have taken a look into http://www.ccbootcamp.com/ccielab.htm and I am
not sure how update the info is.

Where else can I find the mark distribution for the lab? (i know that
the Cisco blue print does not really have the mark distribution)

each man paid $9. Therefore, there are $27 in the pool. Then manager
take $2 FROM that pool (the $2 is part of the pool, so it is a negative
value, instead of the positive value added there), and only $25 left.
That is the hotel room price.

(The $30 value has nothing to do in this question)

Routing Table

How does the Routing table being organized? Using the same network
diagram but with different set of routers, the order of the routing
table changes. Is there a particular way to order the "show ip route"
routing table? (For example, for "show ip bgp", the bgp table is
ordered from small network number to large network number)

As far as I know, the same router would have the same order of listing
each time. And the default route (0.0.0.0/0) always list lasted. But
how about the rest of the routing table?

I just want to confirm that spending time with the Cisco CD is the most

Percentage to success

Is it correct to say about the following:

CCNA is 10% to CCIE
CCNP is 50% to CCIE?

I know that you can't get an exact answer. But I am just looking for
the time (in proportion) that I need to put to each certificate. Let
say I am starting from scratch.

Books for Introduction to networking [7:66849]

Internet Architecture: An Introduction to IP Protocols

The "Internetwork Technology Handbook" that is too cisco oriented and also
one step too far.

What I am looking for is some books that talks about OSI 7 layers, what
router is for, what switches is for and so on

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.
