also want to install some security software that will control & monitor the
access thru normal PSTN dialup. Which s/w should I go for.TACACS+ or cisco
securecan anybody tell me the sample config or tell me the link on the

Inter vlan routing [7:308]

2001-04-11 Thread Infotech

Group Pls help me with this config:-

cat 4k switch--->cat6509<-- cat 4k switch
vlan 1 Vlan2
NT PDC 1NT PDC 2

USERx USERy

I have a small setup of 3 catalyst switches. CAT6509 main switch is
having 2 SUP module (one for redundancy & 2 MSFC card for routing purpose.
There are 2 cat4003 switches installed at 2 diff floors & both are part of
diff vlan's - VLAN1 & VLAN2.
My users are facing problem when they try to access opposite side vlan when
actually sitting in one vlan. they sometimes not able to login. The error
they get is domain server not available & also does not get IP address
from DHCP server. But they can login to local domain which is part of local
VLAN. This problem is only faced by users having laptop (IBM).
Does anybody faced this problem ever.

On both of my servers NT 2 way trust relationship is established so that
users can login to any domain. I have also specified ip helper-address in
my main 6509 MSFC card. The switches are connected via gigabit uplink ports.
It is not login id problem because I am able to login to both the server
when I physically go to opposite vlan & managed to login to both the server.

help appreciated...

Too many broadcasts [7:453]

2001-04-12 Thread Infotech

Dear Group,

I have a small query:

Is it advisable to disable broadcast on all the ports of switches. I have 3
catalyst series 6509/5500/5505 in my network running all the WINNT servers
4.0
with all win98/win95 as clients. With the help of CWSI I have observed that
many a times the broadcast increases very much & I experience lot of response
delay in my network.
can I use the command:

switch> (enable)# set port broadcast 0%

Will this put any impact on my network like nodes won't be able to talk to
server or problem in finding the servers. I have also created VLAN's in
my
network to limit the broadcasts. Should I doit on all the ports...

many thanks in advance

How do you suppose ARP works? Not to mention all the things that make life

Do not be so hasty. Understand first.

How many servers? How many pc's? all on one flat network? No VLANs or
inter-vlan routing?

Once worked in a brokerage firm where during market hours 90% of my traffic

ISDN config [7:4521]

2001-05-15 Thread Infotech

Dear Group need your help.

###

R1 -- R2 - ISDN modem type TA device

##

R1:- Cisco 1700 with One Leased Line (S0) as primary link
One BRI (BRI0) as backup to Leased Line

R2 :- Cisco 1700 with Leased Line (S0)
  One BRI (BRI0)

ISDN TA(Modem) With one BRI line

Present scenario :-
Primary link connectivity is established between Router R1 and Router R2 via
Leased Line. If Leased line goes down then ISDN line from R1 (Configured as
Backup )comes up and dials to R2 and establishes the connectivity.

Requirement:-
In the existing setup also want to connect one remote location via some ISDN
TA type device which will dial to R2 and will use either of the B channel
from
one BRI line available and remain connected. Same time if Router R1's Leased
line goes down then BRI should come up and should connect to Router R2's one
of the available B channels. In this case Router R2 will act as central
office
router and R1 plus remote ISDN TA / Modem will dial to it.

Is it possible to have this kind of setup. Do I need to create dialer rotery
group or dialer pool on router R2. Can I get a sample config of this type if
its available on CISCO's web site.

Many thanks in advance

IT

CAT 6509 urg help required [7:6384]

2001-05-30 Thread Infotech

Dear Group

I am having one 6509 switch with 2 sup module cards (one in redudent mode).
All of a sudden from past couple of days i am observing that my SUP 1 modules
status LED is not glowing. Same time my sup2 modules management LED is
glowing
RED. But still my switch is working fine.
When I give SH MOD command it shows status as ok for all the cards including
SUP MODULE 1. For sup mod 2 the status shows as standby. I am also having
MSFC-2 and PFC cards in the same SUP modules. My both sup modules are exactly
identical.

Does that mean that either of mine sup module is faulty. Any mod can fail at
any time ???.

How can I verify that my modules are working fine. Does anybody faced problem
like this.

many thanks in advance
