2003-07-16 Thread Mohamed El Komy
Bruce,

We're taking about same things.

My router has a serial interface connected to an Frame relay E1 link to a
V.35/G.703 paradynne converter and the G.703 E1 link terminated on FRSM Card
in Cisco MGX 8850the line config from the FRSM need to be configured as
CCS or CAS,so I need to adjust the config of serial I/F to support CAS/CCS.

Komy,
Both CAS and CCS refer to signaling methods used in the channelized T-1
world. Until your Serial interface is connected to a CSU/DSU it is not a
channelized interface. So first I have to ask for your definition of CAS
and CCS just to make sure we are talking about the same things.

Everything go well when I confgiure the FRSM port as clear and E1 become up
but when i configure it as CAS/CCS ...it come down.

So is there anyway to Configure CCS or CAS on Router serial interface.

 Hi Group,

Today I took the MPLS exam and I flunked.I used the book MPLS and VPN
architecture(First edition) by Ivan Pepelnjak. From my experience this book
is not sufficient to prepare for the exam.About the exam it is not too
toughf, if proper material would have been there.
The passing mark is also too high,it is 867.I scored 798..
If any knows some good links for preparing for the exam.Pls suggest.

Allright. Sean Knox has pretty much nailed it on the head. But let me
try
  one more time.

To become a R/S CCIE you must
  #1) pass the R/S written
  #2) pass the R/S lab

To become a Security CCIE you must
  #1)pass the Security written
  #2) pass the Security lab

To become a C/S CCIE you must
#1)Pass one of 8 possible C/S writtens - or - have passed either the
old
ISPDial or WAN-switching CCIE writtens back when they were still
available
(so if you have never done this, then unless you have a time machine,
you
  cannot do it now)
  #2)Pass the C/S lab.

Bottom line - the labs are absolutely NOT the same for all three,
believe
me. I've tried all 3 labs, and they are significantly different. There
 are
some base-level similarities, but beyond that they are quite divergent.
If
you don't believe me, read their descriptions:

  http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/625/ccie/certifications/services.html#4

The lab is not the same for all three. As nrf has repeatedly tried to
 tell
you, they are three SEPARATE tracks. To achieve the R/S CCIE, you need
 to
pass the R/S written and the R/S CCIE Lab. To get your C/S CCIE, even
if
  you
already have, say, you R/S CCIE *completed*, you still need to
complete
  the
C/S written then take the C/S lab.

Sorry, I guess that wasn't very clear. Suppose you attain an
R/S CCIE and
now wish to go for security or C/S. As the lab is the same
for all three, is
it necessary to keep retaking the lab or will the written be enough?
I
assume you probably do have to take the lab again, however
since it is the
same test you have already passed,it just seems redundant.

nrf wrote:

Uh, what? I don't understand your question. If you're saying
 that you're
thinking that you can just keep getting more than one C/S CCIE
 by taking
that lab over and over again (but by passing different C/S
 writtens), then
the answer is absolutely not. Contrary to what many people
 believe, there
are no different 'flavors' of the C/S. There is only 1 C/S
 CCIE, and you're
either a C/S CCIE or you're not. And really, this makes
 perfect sense,
since there is only one unified C/S lab which every C/S
 candidate takes, no
 matter which written he/she passed.

 Jason Owens wrote in message

Based on your post above, as the lab is the same general
 knowledge, would
you need to keep taking it, providing you have passed it

 Just curious.

In case anybody is interested, I submitted the post below regarding NAT
problems with IOS 12.2(5). The Cisco TAC engineer wrote back with the
following information, which matches up with the problems we were having:

A search was done on the known issues on 12.2 IOS platform and I got two
bugs similar to your issue. I am just wondering whether you are running
 into these issues.

CSCdv40492 - NAT stops working after some days

and the same is duplicated by the following bug also:

CSCdr69168 - It seems that router using same port number 65535. After
that,
some connections will be down or fail. Workaround is to reload the
router.
If they try to do clear ip nat trans *, it still has this problem.

The above two bugs are resolved in the following IOS versions.
 12.2(06.06)T
 12.2(06.08)DA
 12.2(06.06)PI
 12.002(006.005)

I would suggest you to consult with your NSA engineer for your account for
 appropriate code recommendation.

Regarding IOS's, has anyone had any problems with NAT when using 12.2(5)?
Without going into details, we're having some NAT issues and it seems to
have started after upgrading our routers to 12.2(5). CCO doesn't currently
show any NAT problems or bugs with this version.

 1- VPN architecture,benefits and security.
2- Describe the PCM process for encoding an analog signal into a digital

3- Define local loops, trunks, and interswitch communications
4- Describe the types of PSTN signaling methods
5- Describe voice signaling types
6- Identify key voice over packet network design considerations
7- Describe the phases of an IP Telephony call

So what's wrong with my book?? Is there a new edition for the CID book

Routing Protocol is the protocol respomsible for routing traffic [i.e

RIP,OSPF,IGRP,...

Routed Protocol like IP,IPX,... represents the traffic routed from source to

Am preparing for the CCDA now to write it sometime this week. Am using
CCDA
 by
Todd Lammle(Sybex). I found alot of CCNA and BCSN stuffs in the book, I
only
have about one or two chapters dealing with hardware and other stuffs.

Please can someone tell me whether the sybex book is enough or I need some
other materials. A friend was once telling me to read up SOHO and other
remote/Home office devices covered in BCRAN nothing was mentioned about
these
in the sybex book. Do I need these additional knowledge? Please help.

 Thanks.

 Regards.
 Oletu

Re: ppp hdlc [7:10737]

2001-07-03 Thread Mohamed El Komy

Both PPP and HDLC are encapsulation protocols on serial interfaces. But PPP
is better than HDLC in 2 main points:

1- PPP supports multiple network layer encapsulation (IP,IPX,AppleTalk,...)
while standard HDLC supports only IP encapsulation.[Cisco HDLC supports
multiple network layer encapsulation].

2- PPP suports both PAP and CHAP authentication protocols which provides a
secure point-to-point session while HDLC doesn't support that.

Re: CIT 2.0 Exam !! [7:10615]

2001-07-02 Thread Mohamed El Komy

I think you need to pass the first three exams before CIT.You'll find some
difficulty in understanding many points in CIT which are covered in details
in the first three exams.

Fast Switching on Cisco Routers [7:9753]

2001-06-25 Thread Mohamed El Komy

I'd like to know which is the default switching in Cisco Routers for TCP/IP
traffic? Is it Process or Fast Switching?
Also there're some questions I need an answer to:

1- When issuning debug commands,do I need to turn off Fast Switching ?
2- Which leads to more CPU and Memory utilization: Process or Fast Swithing?
3- What's the differnece between Fast,Autonomous,Silicon and Optimum
Switching?

I also need some technical papers about Distributed Switching using VIP
cards on Cisco 7500 series and its Architecture.

Thanks,
komy

OSPF Routing based on ToS [7:9674]

2001-06-24 Thread Mohamed El Komy

Hi all,
Can anybody help me how I can configure OSPF Routing based on ToS (For
example if the IP 3 ToS bits specify low delay, low throughput and high
reliability,OSPF calculates routes to destination based on this ToS
designation).

Thanks,
komy

Multicasting in ATM [7:9679]

2001-06-24 Thread Mohamed El Komy

I know that in ATM aa Point-to-multipoint connection is unidirectional
only(i.e The root node can transmit to leaves but leaves can't transmit to
the root or each other on same connection).
The question is Is it possible to have bidirectional
multipoint-to-multipoint connections over ATM backbones?
and How to map IP Multicasting protocols over ATM?

thanks,
komy
