something that has not been addressed are the NICs in the servers. Compaq server NICs are particularly bad when using redudant links. It is best advised that you disable the heartbeats on those puppies and possibley reboot the server after doing so. let me know if this works. As prep for the CCIE, I am scheduled to take the Global Knowledge class of SNA Config for Multiprotocol Admins on Dec 18th-22nd, http://db.globalknowledge.com/catalog/course.asp?course=5600cat=6 I was wondering what opinion people might have regarding not only the class, but the provider as well. It was a very frustrating exam. After I failed it the first time, I purchased the Boson CCIE practice Test. Boson had helped me before to prepare and pass CID and complete my CCDP track. If not for these, I might be re-taking this exam until this time next year. It was the best investment I ever made. The good thing about it is that, it is more like a tutor than a practice test. I would aquire the Omni-Directional Access Point Antenna as this should allow the bridge to receive radio strength better. Also, check the surrounding area to see if there are any devices that might cause a disturbance with the bridge's communcation. All: I am preparing for the BCRAN and am wondering about the requirements. Yes, I have read the PDF from the Exam Outlines section at cisco.com, but have a hard time coming to terms why VoIP is listed and not in the actual course. Jason, Since you did not specify if you were trying to ping NetBIOS name or DNS name, I am going to assume that you were trying to ping the NetBIOS name, but will also give an explanation of trying to ping the DNS name. NetBIOS To avoid confusion on the server when pinging by NetBIOS name, the server will respond only to the primary IP address bound to the NIC; however, you can define multiple NetBIOS names to multiple IP addresses via a HOST file or WINS. The fact that the interfaces were down tells me that someone did not know what to do with the IP addresses and stuck them there OR was playing around. DNS One of the reasons behind adding multiple IP addresses to a server would be to define multiple web sites to a server, shared hosting. Is there IIS or its equivalent running on the box? What is the one thing that you are eliminating when you brind the PC to the back room with the switch?? Yes, that's right-CABLING! I am going to assume that you are using fresh cable for this and the cable happens to be Cat5. As far as an expensive company to install this, do it yourself or find someone. I used to work for a company that installs cabling in nearly any part of the US. If you are interested, I can have someone from the organization call you and quote a price to you. Install some new cabling, Cat5, and spend about $20 a NIC and viola-you have 100 full to the desktop. Users will love you; and, then you will able to spend more time studying or cruising the Internet Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
