comments on Cisco PIX CSPFA exam [7:34922]
Hi All, I took the Cisco PIX CSPFA exam yesterday and I was suprised to find out that my score is 970/1000. I've never worked with any type of firewalls let alone PIX Firewall. I read the CSPFA book and borrowed the materials from a friend of mine who went to global knowledge training a few weeks earlier. I am very disappointed with the exam. I don't think anyone like myself should be able to pass the exam that easily. I thought yesterday's test score was a fluke so this morning I went and took the MCNS exam and I got a score of 960/1000. I was completely shocked. A few hours, I decide to sign up for the CCIE written exam. Amazingly I passed with a score of 92/100 That is unbelievable. To pass the exam for someone like myself really de-value the prestige of Cisco Certification by some bookworms like me. Cisco, after all, should make the exam a lot harder than the way it is now. Anyone care to comment on this. Mike Johnson __ Do You Yahoo!? Send FREE Valentine eCards with Yahoo! how to build a pix firewall out of a PC box. [7:18335]
Hi Everyone, For those who are interested in learning Cisco PIX but do NOT want to spend a lot of money on buying an expensive PIX Firewall, I think I can help you. I have instructions on how to build a PIX firewall by using a PC. In case you didn't know, PIX firewall is essentially a PC with multiple interfaces. I've successfully built several PIX firewall using my old PCs (i.e. pentium 200 MHz processor). Actually, the PIX1 series (obsolete I know) is a PC with Intel EtherExpress Interface cards. However, you must have an account with CCO in order the software and download the software. The rest of the instructions on how to build a PIX firewall using PC is very simple. Anyone interested in learning it, let me know. Mike __ Do You Yahoo!? Get email alerts NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! RE: how to build a pix firewall out of a PC box. [7:18335]
Let me make it clear. The flash that I am referring to is NOT the standard flash for Cisco routers. The flash memory that I am talking about specifically referred to as Flash that get inserted into the ISA slot on the PC motherboard. Flash memory for Cisco routers will NOT do the job. --- RamG wrote: M - Thanks for the reply. Will get in touch with you once, I get hold of the required hardware. 1) a PC with at least 2 PCI slots and at least 1 ISA slot - YES 2) 32 MB of EDO RAM - YES 3) Floppy drive. Hard-drive is NOT necessary - YES 4) The Network Interface Card (NIC) must be Intel EtherExpress Card (model 82557). Other NICs will NOT work - WILL GET ONE FROM FUTURE SHOP 5) A flash card that will fit on an ISA slot of your PC. This flash card will load the software from the Floppy drive onto the flash card. This flash card must be 16MB if you want to run PIX code 5.3.2. If you would like to run version 5.1.5 or lower, a 2MB flash will do. I don't know how much the flash card cost. You may get these flash card on Ebay or on some auction site - HAVE TWO 8MB FLASH {2500 SERIES}. I WILL SELL THESE AND GET ONE 16MB FLASH {2500 SERIES}. Once you have these things, I will send you instructions on how to build a PIX firewalls. Keep in mind that the PIX is very expensive. However, PIX is nothing but a PC (IMHO). Instead of spending 3K for the PIX520, you can build your own pix for under $100. Mike __ Do You Yahoo!? Get email alerts NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! OK, I've received a lot of request on how to build a PIX firewall using old PC. I am going to show everyone how to do it; however, before I continue, you must have the following hardware. Otherwise, it will NOT work. 1) a PC with at least 2 PCI slots and at least 1 ISA slot; 2) 32 MB of EDO RAM, 3) Floppy drive. OT: Cisco PIX 535 Firewall is really a piece of @!#$ [7:16436]
I work for an ISP and we are a big Cisco shop. we deploy PIX Firewall at our facility to protect our company and customers. About 3 months ago, we deployed about 30 Cisco PIX 535 series that support Gigabit Interface because our customers demand it. We run PIX IOS code 5.3 on the PIX firewall. The problem with the PIX is that even though Cisco claims that the throughput is between 750 to 800 Mbps, the throughput drops to 2Mbps (YES, 2Mbps on a Gigabit interface) if the number of concurrent connections is more than 10,000 with an error tolerance of 0.1% (the industry standard is 0.001%). A lot of our customers are very angry and threaten to terminate their contracts with us. We later find out that another independent lab tested the Cisco PIX-535, see http://www.nwfusion.com/columnists/2001/0709tolly.html for details. Cisco said that there is a bug in the software version 5.3 (See BUG ID CSCdt86736) and claimed that the bug is fixed in version 6.0; however, you wouldn't be able to find this bug in Cisco bug watcher. We did some preliminary testing with version 6.0 and the result is the same (i.e. the bug is still there). The point of the story is ALWAYS TAKE CISCO RECOMMENDATION AND CLAIMS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. Careful product evaluation. Always keep your option open with other vendors such as Checkpoint, Lucent, Netscreen, etc... Our stupid management listened to Cisco rep. and overrode Engineering recommendation and now as the company as a whole, we are paying a price. Mike __ Do You Yahoo!? CCIE lab scenarios to trade
hello, Wondering if anyone has any real CCIE lab scenarios to trade? I am scheduled for the CCIE lab in July. I am not too concern with Cisco NDA because I know that most people don't. I am willing to trade with anyone.
