Can anyone help an aspiring CCNP? [7:11920]
Does anyone who passed CCNP switching know if HSRP is covered on the exam? Its not an objective on the Cisco site, but both Cisco Press and Lammle dedicate a whole chapter to it. Thanks... HSRP is a function of routing, not switching. Therefore I would expect it is not in the switching exam. I would expect to see it in the routing exam. While this is true, Layer 3 switches through off this distinction and HSRP can be used across switches. I am wondering why both CCNP books dedicate a whole chapter to it if it not on the exam. That is IF it is not on the exam. ""Dennis H"" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > HSRP is a function of routing, not switching. It's covered in the Switching (briefly..but it's there). I just passed my switching test 2 days agobe safe to say to know what it is at a high level...not deep. ;) -Eric Varner MCNE, CCNA, CCDA 1 down 3 to go for NP - Original Message - From: "Sam Sneed" To: Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2001 8:44 AM Subject: Can anyone help an aspiring CCNP? Thanks, what did you think of the difficulty level as this test as compared to CCNA? ""Eric F. Re: Can anyone help an aspiring CCNP? [7:11920]
However, you will find HSRP in the Switching study guides, not the CCNP Routing study guides. You might as well learn it now and get it over with, no matter which test it ends up being on. The basics of HSRP are very simple so don't let Cisco's overuse of acronyms intimidate you. How many times have we seen the latest and greatest technology introduced into IOS and it's promptly given a nice long acronym that makes it sound really complex and substantialand then you find out that it takes two commands to configure. Basic HSRP is a little like that. Besides, it theoretically could be on at least three of the four CCNP tests so you might as well learn it. Good luck! Re: Can anyone help an aspiring CCNP? [7:11920]
IMO it was tougher than the CCNA test. Become one with CGMP and trunking. I used the Exam Cram and Cisco Press (Switching). I also used Keystones Video CD's and practice exam questions. (BTW I have this kit for sale on e-bay) I felt like I could have done a lot better with more studying. But, I felt like I was learning as I was going through the material instead of memorizing for a test. Some of the test questions are poorly written. Re: Can anyone help an aspiring CCNP? [7:11920]
HSRP is a _router_ function but it is there to add extra functionality for a LAN. Also, I seem to remember HSRP being covered in the BCMSN course - possibly something to do with running multiple instances of HSRP over different VLANs. Read into that what you will, all I'm saying is that HSRP is quite simple, easy to configure and it is worthwhile knowing it whether or not you are going to have a switching exam soon. Enjoy! And a little comment to Eric's last comment - feel free to use the set-based command training application I made when I studied for the BCMSN exam. You can find it by clicking my CCNP link below. RE: Can anyone help an aspiring CCNP? [7:11920]
HSRP is covered briefly in the CCNP switching exam. It is in the switching exam because it deals with redundancy at the access layer which is on the exam outline. -Ej -Original Message- From: Sam Sneed [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2001 9:53 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Can anyone help an aspiring CCNP? Re: Can anyone help an aspiring CCNP? [7:11920]
Dennis, You're showing your age :-) It's not often I get to say that - I quite enjoyed it. (No offence meant). HSRP is covered in the switching syllabus now due to layer 3 switches and it did crop up in the exam. The routing seemed to stick to 4 main areas and I think could be re-named "Routing Protocols". 1. OSPF 2. EIGRP 3. BGP 4. Makin' em all work together Obviously there are other bits but thats most of it. Cheers, Gaz ""Dennis H"" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > HSRP is a function of routing, not switching. Therefore I would expect it > is not in the switching exam.
