Re: Cisco Secure VPN Client for windows 2k [7:3427]
On the Cisco VPN Client download page itself, it states that v3 requires PIXv6: http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/vpnclient-3des (linked from http://www.cisco.com/kobayashi/sw-center/ which requires CCO login): "Compatibility Information VPN 3000 Concentrator v3.0 - VPN Client v3.0 PIX Firewall v5.2+ - VPN 3000 Client v2.5 v6.0 - VPN Client v3.0" However, if you can get the Beta Win2k v2.5 client, it does support the PIX until PIXv6 is released (or get PIXv6 beta, but I wouldn't run in a production invironment, plus I've tried to get in on the Beta testing and can't). I haven't heard any dates/version, but IOS is planned to support the VPN Client as well. BTW: I hear PIXv6 is due out anytime now. Depending on how many boxes you need to support (if it was just a few netadmin boxes), you could purchase per-client licenses from IRE.com (OEM for the original "Cisco Secure VPN Client" v1.0 & v1.1). They've had a Win2K version out for some time (although I've not used it). If you need to support a large number, you're going to have to wait for the support to be added to IOS for the new "Unified Client" (previously known as Concentrator 3000 client), aka "Cisco VPN Client" (not "Cisco Secure VPN Client" which is just a Cisco-branded OEM from IRE). -- Jason Roysdon, CCNP+Security/CCDP, MCSE, CNA, Network+, A+ List email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Homepage: http://jason.artoo.net/ ""Jay Dunn"" wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... > Actually, Cisco has released a Win2K client. Actually, Cisco has released a Win2K client. We downloaded it last week (sorry, I don't have the URL). We specifically wanted to use it to connect to our PIX. I have a PIX 510 doing VPN termination for remote clients ("Cisco Secure VPN Client 1.1") much like you describe, but I was under the (perhaps mistaken) impression that you had to have 5.0+ OS to do it. I was able to get it running using just the examples in the online docs (a rare case when the provided example was actually what I wanted to do :-)... However, you may want to be aware of some limitations: DNS handling on the Cisco Secure VPN Client line is broken, by which I mean you can't have your remote client's DNS configuration change dynamically based on whether the VPN tunnel is up or not. So you can either have them *only* use their ISP's DNS servers, or you have them configure your internal DNS server in their TCP/IP Preferences and as a result *always* have the VPN running and *always* send their DNS queries to your internal DNS server. If you can upgrade your PIX to 5.2 or better, then you have the possibility of using a different VPN client (I can't remember off the top of my head if this is the 3000 or 5000 client), that supports DNS information as part of the "mode config" that is sent from the PIX to the remote client when it establishes the IPSec tunnel. RE: How to setup a cisco secure VPN client with a PIX 515 only?
Hey list, I want to check to see if there was a member of the list that has put this type of solution together. I am running a cisco PIX 515 with 4.4 os and no failover. We have clients that will use a local ISP to dial up internet connectivity, and they then want to vpn into our corporate network. I have purchased the cisco Secure VPN software for the clients and I am looking for the best way to configure the PIX as the VPN endpoint for the clients coming from the internet. Anyone done this kind of thing successfully, ? want to share some pointers? thanks, jason _ FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi all, If you want to run IPSEC tunnel on WIN2000 platform, there is a company that is called IRE which makes the VPN client software and they have the version for the WIN200 for the WINME and a bug free version. I have tried it and it work excellent. Re: Cisco Secure VPN Client
If your talking about the client that goes with the VPN 3000 then the Cisco software will not work with win2k as Rick pointed out. I just implemented this for a client using win2k and the solution is to use PPTP that is built into win2k instead of IPSEC. I created a white paper on this and it works perfectly. It's how I telnet to the routers and switches for this client from home:)... E-mail me off-line if your interested.
