Re: IGS-R image

2001-01-25 Thread Circusnuts

No luck with that router. It can only run 10.0 on a good day. If you can
find it, maybe try an old stripped IP version of 10.0. I rather agree- I
don't think the image exists anymore. The IGS is one the few routers that
has no upgrade, it only ran 8,9, 10.0

I have an old IGS-R that I'm trying to get up in my lab. The eprom has
IOS
 9. While it has been fun using IOS 9 I would like to use a more up to
date
 IOS. At least IOS 11.0.

But I can't figure out which IOS to use. Cisco does not list the IGS on
their software site. Also this thing has no flash so I am trying to
netboot
it. I downloaded a couple of 11.1 images but it is not working. It only
 has 4 mb of Ram.

Can anyone point me to the right image. I thought the IGS used the same
image as the earlier 2500 but when I netboot those I get a buffer overflow
 error.

 Thanks for your help

Not true, if you have a friend with an EPROM programmer, you can blow a set
of PROMs for up to ios 11.2 Enterprise (IIRC). I've upgraded 4 IGSs to
this, and they run just great.

You can get the imgaes from the ASD section of the software download site,
but you'll need Enterprise access.

Re: IGS-R image

2001-01-25 Thread stephen britt

Hi,
These are extracts from univer CD, and Cisco SAMM Aug 96.

Table 6: Release 10.0 Minimum Memory Requirements

Router Required Code Memory Required Main Memory Release Runfro
IGS L/R/TR N/A 4 MB RAM ROM

IGS L/R/TR and Cisco 3202
Support for the IGS/L, IGS/R, IGS/TR, and Cisco 3202 has been added to
Release 10.0(5)

---

* my ramblings,
It seems that the L and R have a slightly different architecture to the TR,
the TR can be upgraded to run from Flash, you need to change the chips on
the board, and set various
jumpers to enable this. L and R seem to have their system installed on
EPROMS (note not EEPROMS), and the systems run from ROM, I do not know what
the implication are for netbooting in this case.

I checked the release notes for 10.0 10.1 10.2 11.0, 10.0(5) seems to be the
last release for the IGS. Have a go at netbooting it.

It seems netbooting will avoid any potential issues with bootrom issues.
It also seems that before 9.1, you use a hardware config dip switch, after
this its is in S/W as per norm.

I dont know if there is much to be gained by going to 10.0(5) in terms of
funtionality, but its always fun to try these things.

Good luck,
steve.

Re: IGS-R image

2001-01-24 Thread Flem

That is because the IGS is EOL .

I believe that the 2500 code will still run on an IGS,
if memory sizes allow. The original IGS was only
expandable to 4 MB of DRAM max.

ALso when upgrading from IOS 9.x to 10.x you could run
into pain because of microcode issues ... I think

What 10.3 or 11.0 code did you try to load ?
