RE: MSFC [7:30668]
The choice of running your MSFCs depends on your COMPANY'S POLICIES. You will need to test the different standby settings for your MSFCs. With our tests, we noted that both standby techniques had some nesciences. We decided to stick with running with the MSFC's independent of each other. ADVANTAGES of separate MSFCs in one 6509 : Predictable workings of MSFCs, isolated. DISADVANTAGES of other Methods : Temporary rooting loops(while updates were sent from 1 MSFC to the other), loss of configuration, loss of config changes. Etc. Generally, we could not predict at which state the MSFCs would be at a particular point in time. We used EIGRP as the routing protocol of choice. It works well, with the 2 MSFCs in the 6509, providing redundancy between the 2 MSFCs Hope this helps, AKI -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Woods, Randall, SOBUS Sent: ?a?as?e??, 4 ?a???a 2002 5:12 55 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: MSFC [7:30668] As soon as you turn on single-router-mode, it will sync up the redundant MFSC on that switch automatically. RE: MSFC [7:30668]
Scottie, This is another option you can try. Single Router Mode (SRM). It will migrate the configs of the primary MSFC to the back-up just like the Supervisor Module does when it fails. We are in the process of testing this feature out at my company. http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/sw_6_3/confg _gd/redund.htm#xtocid1228929 hope this helps Woody -Original Message- From: Scottie @ PacBell [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, January 03, 2002 9:53 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: MSFC [7:30668] Depending on your topology. Re: MSFC [7:30668]
You have three choices. 1 Treat the two MSFC's as two individual routers 2 Config-sync, basically you configure the routers individually but from the active router 3 SRM, single router mode, you have a single router config, one active one standby. of coarse this is ASSuming your running hybrid mode In Native mode the box is just a big router and if you have two MSFCs one is active the other standby. see http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/sw_6_3/confg_gd/redund.htm Dave "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" wrote: > > I have a 6509 switch with 2 MSFC's. I have a 6509 switch with 2 MSFC's. I would like to know if I can or should I have the same config on both MSFC's.
