Re: CCIE WRITTEN ---- Please provide your feedback.
Perhaps the reason you haven't had much feedback is because all the information you're requesting is already on the Cisco website, and if you're asking for more detailed information, then you're asking those who've taken the test to violate their confidentiality agreement. Nadeem, Go to www.cisco.com and look on the certification page on what is covered and what resources to use to study for it. No one can really give you anything further because it would fall under the Non-Disclosure Agreement. If you had been continuously READING the messages on groupstudy mailing lists, including the archives, you would long ago have found what you needed. Mr. Dale! Your answer is a humiliating slang on all who wants to pursue there career certification. This slap is not only on me but to all of you who are CCIE or going towards it. Indeed I have been going through the archives and found some ideas but there are so many peoples with different ideas that they confused me on what to read and what to study. So I decided to read all the books one by one. After I went through couple of books I figured out my self where am I standing but could not. RE: CCIE WRITTEN ---- Please provide your feedback.
Nadeem, Hi, while Dale may have been a little hard on you, CCIE certification isn't a quick and easy endeavor like CNE or MCSE (I know, I have both of them). You're expected to know all items in the blue print, maybe not extensively but you should be familiar with them. So in that regard I have to agree with Dale somewhat that if it's too much information for you to cover then the CCIE certification might not be what you're looking for. The CCIE isn't a watered-down exam like all the others in the industry, it's very difficult by design and basically requires you to put the rest of your life on hold while you pursue it. Passing the CCIE written is far easier than passing the lab. RE: CCIE WRITTEN ---- Please provide your feedback.
Nadeem, My original response was meant partly as humor, but also as a statement of reality... You state in your reply: "The Cisco Blue prints covers almost everything, and that is too much to go for." I suspected that this was your attitude and that is why I wrote as I did. This one sentence which you have written, which stems from a deeper attitude within you, is the single reason which you will fail. I cannot sugar-coat it for you. If you truly believe what you have said, then you will not succeed. I cannot encourage you to go forth with that attitude, because you will be in for a long road of heartache and disappointment. This is a fact. Yes, the exam blueprint is extensive. BUT, an understanding of EVERY single topic on the list IS an attainable goal, AND - it is THE GOAL you must set for yourself if you want to get the CCIE. There are no shortcuts. No question you can ask anyone on any list will change the fact that you must cover all of this material, and only you can do the work. If you demonstrate to this list an appetite for learning, and an earnest effort to obtain that learning, the I (and everyone else here) will help you in any way we can. BUT, when you come to the list begging for, or worse yet - demanding shortcuts and handouts, then the best advice I can offer you is to seek another path. This is sincere advice, not sarcasm or bitter discouragement. Consider carefully your motivation for attaining the CCIE, and your commitment to the task. Then, if you find that you still want it, start again with the Exam Blueprint (and the resultant BIG pile of books). This is the road we all follow... and you will see us all, some ahead of you and some behind you, moving at different speeds, but all in the same direction. Once again, Good Luck! Re: CCIE WRITTEN ---- Please provide your feedback.
> > >// The Cisco Blue prints covers almost everything and that is too much >// to go for. > I have to agree that if you look at CCIE as "too much," you aren't ready for it. CCNA, then CCNP, may be more attainable goals. Let's say I wave a magic wand and give them a CCIE certificate--not the knowledge. How are they going to do in the sort of job that a CCIE would get? Believe me, even if you DID have the knowledge of a CCIE, and were in a CCIE-level job, you can't stop learning. Arguably, the amount of information in networking may double every 18 months or so. I do think that CCIE is too broad and not in-depth enough, but possibly I'm looking at that more from a designer standpoint. Let me offer an analogy that, like all analogies, may or may not work. There's an issue here of defining what should be in the CCIE. In the US healthcare system, there has been a continuing debate of whether patients should be able to self-refer to specialists. This isn't purely a cost issue, but involves quality of care and getting appropriate care. There's a classic test question, where one asks the potentially self-referring patient "assume you suddenly lost the outer half of vision in both your eyes." What sort of specialist should you go to? If you answered "an opthalmologist," you aren't ready to select your specialist. Loss of vision, in the manner described, is an emergency that needs to be seen by a neurologist or neurosurgeon. ___ UPDATED Posting Guidelines: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: CCIE WRITTEN ---- Please provide your feedback.
Nadeem, You complain that the Cisco blueprint "covers everything and that is too much". I have one question regarding this... Just why do you think that CCIEs are so highly regarded? This is not to say that you aren't intelligent or knowledgeable. It sounds more like you are frustrated more than anything. That being the case, perhaps you need to break it down into more manageable pieces. I think that the main benefit of the CCNP and CCDP certifications is that they perform that very function. If you don't have a Cisco certification yet, try getting the CCNA first, then go for erach of the other tests. This will break down the material you need to study for the CCIE into something a little easier to handle while simultaneously increasing your marketability. Think about it anyway. Re: CCIE WRITTEN ---- Please provide your feedback.
I would think the reality of a CCIE proves to a potential employer 1. Broad knowledge on internetworking 2. A deep knowledge of Cisco products 3. A stout troubleshooting methodology. 4. Ability to interpret the big picture 5. Fast ramp up speed on current technology 6. Communicate all of the above to the pinheads like me and the bean counters. Anything outside this is fair game so to speak and the market will dictate the results. It's really just an MD of Internetworking and then you will specialise in an area (s). So being that just like an MD you need to know a little about a lot and then as the specialist you add a lot about a little. And just like most other high end jobs it's in a state of flux. The only constant is change, so you must embrace it rather than fight it. RE: CCIE WRITTEN ---- Please provide your feedback.
Nadeem, The very reason that many of us pursue the CCIE is due to the breadth of knowledge that it requires to obtain it. Sure many of us pursue it for better career advantages but I don't think most of us are in this business JUST for the money. That's only a part of it. Bottom line is that if you enjoy what you do it's really not an effort in the same sense as if you're only trying to go after the certification. If you enjoy the business well enough to want to strive to be the best you can possibly be, then the rest will come on it's own. Break your goals and study habits into manageable pieces. Track those pieces and mark them off as you obtain one more level. You'll be surprised just how far you can go if you apply yourself consistently to that path. Ed PS ... There are no simple answers ... it just takes time, hard work and consistent effort. Plus it helps if you're a little bit infected with the bug to learn as much as you can pack in upstairs about Internetworking and Cisco. ... ... >From: Nadeem Khawaja <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: Nadeem Khawaja <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >To: "'Dale Holmes'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, [EMAIL PROTECTED], >[EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: RE: CCIE WRITTEN Please provide your feedback. >Date: Wed, 30 Aug 2000 10:21:53 -0400 > >Mr. Dale! > >Your answer is a humiliating slang on all who wants to pursue there career >certification. Re: RE: CCIE WRITTEN ---- Please provide your feedback.
Nadeem - Please do not presume to speak for all CCIE candidates. Mr. Holmes's post was rough, but your original post earned you the responses you've gotten. The CCIE certification is a big moutain to climb, and if you feel it is "too much," then Mr. Holmes is right in his advice to you. As far as the differences in opinion are concerned, you're right in that they can be confusing. However, this is a part of life, and each of us must make choices for ourselves on which study method to choose, which car to buy, which girl to marry. When looking for a new book to use in preparation for a certification exam, I read reviews on Amazon.com or some other online bookstore, and if that isn't enough for me to make a decision, then I go to my local bookstore (Softpro) and start flipping pages. We will not spoon-feed you here. You must decide for yourself. Let this thread and conversation end here. Sincerely, Bradley J.
