You would be correct. We configure our switches to auto so the
customer can choose their favorite LMI. Some providers force you to use
ANSI which wil not provide CIR, hmm I wonder why they would do that...

Apart from the other suggestions, you could always ask your provider. Try
asking whoever you deal with for support, rather than whoever you deal
with for ordering - the support mob will hopefully check what is
provisioned, while the ordering mob may just check what you ordered.
Your provider may have some reporting system in place for customers that
you can use to check - you may be able to get other reports as well. Maybe
not, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

RE: CIR [7:32747]

Remembering my day in hell when I had a 10/100 auto sense problem where the
STP blocked a LAN interface on my router, I was wondering how well the AUTO
LMI setting works. Is it reliable and recommendable?

Thanks,

Never had what work??

I hate to nag, but could people try to remember that many of us read these
messages in connectionless, stateless mode. Messages that say never had it
work are meaningless.

Yesterday there was one that just said no. Hunh?

Please reply with the original message (or at least part of it) intact.
Thanks.

Priscilla

Also RFC 1149 compliant, but with consideration for the fact that avian
carriers don't reassemble messages. ;-)

RE: CIR [7:32747]

2002-01-21 Thread Ole Drews Jensen

If it's for an Internet connection: Download a file from a website (for
example the latest super dat update from McAfee which is about 4 MB) and
time it. Try from two or three different sites, as it all depends on the
path it takes.

If it's for a WAN connection between two of your offices, copy a big file
and time it.

Example: If it takes 40 seconds to download a 2 MB file, you know that it is
about 5 bytes per second, which is 50 KB per second, or about 400 Kbps.

You can also try the Bandwidth Meter at http://www.2wire.com, but that
doesn't give you a precise result, as they will test your connection speed
between their site and your site.

Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: CIR [7:32747]

2002-01-21 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I would have thought that this would only work if your provider also used
Cisco LMI type??

Apart from the other suggestions, you could always ask your provider. Try
asking whoever you deal with for support, rather than whoever you deal
with for ordering - the support mob will hopefully check what is
provisioned, while the ordering mob may just check what you ordered.
Your provider may have some reporting system in place for customers that
you can use to check - you may be able to get other reports as well. Maybe
not, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

2002-01-21 Thread Brian

This trick does not always work, a phone call is indeed sometimes
necessary.
