Re: NM-1E2W Module
Generally, the network modules for the 2600 and 3600 series are interchangeable. However, NM-1E2W is not supported on Cisco 2600. See http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/pcat/mxne__p1.htm Warrick FitzGerald wrote: Hi, I have a 2600 cisco router and would like to purchase another ethernet interface for the unit. well I've been having a running commentary with Cisco for the last few days about what is and what isn't supported on 2600s.. If all you need is an additional ethernet then the NM-1E= would do it. Mr. Wigle, I couldn't help but notice your frustration with this topic. Re: NM-1E2W Module
Chris, I really appreciate yet another tool to look things up but my anguish comes from finding different info on different CCO pages. We have a member (Karl) on this list right now that has sent me a link that says NM-1FE-TX is supported on the 2600. http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios121/121relnt/260 0/rn2600xq.htm This new tool (and others) say it isn't. He sent me a sh diag where it is happily working away. Now I know there is a difference in "working" and being "supported". I rely on CCO to give clients advice and lately I've been finding some "inconsistencies" If it wasn't for the link enclosed above I would be happy. However, obviously "Karl" thought it was ok (due to the above link???), installed it and it works. In light of the above link, maybe you could tell us if it really is supported as far as TAC is concerned? i.e. if I phoned TAC with a sick 2600 router and they see this NM installed will they say "get it out of there??" And I really do appreciate your support here on groupstudy. Re: NM-1E2W Module
Mr. Wigle, I have seen that link that you have seen, and am researching it with the Product Managers. I currently do not have any statement from them as to whether or not this is true. So for now, I am still telling everyone that I speak with that that module (NM-1FE-TX) is not supported in the 2600's. It may very well be supported, but I know the NM-1FE2W is not supported. My reasoning for stating this (that the NM-1FE-TX is not supported) is that the version that is stated on that page (12.1.3XQ2) is not a mainline release, and I usually do not recommend using non-mainline releases. As far as whether or not you could call up TAC with that version installed and be ok with it, I am uncertain. Again, I am having to research this. Hope this helps a bit. Here is a link that should be of service to you: http://www.cisco.com/pcgi-bin/finder/msbsearch.pl This link is the "Solution Finder for Modular Routers" You would be best served by doing the "Search 2" by part number. Plug your part number in, and you will find what routers support that particular part number. Hope this is of help to you and everyone else on this mailing list. CCO (was Re: NM-1E2W Module)
Brad, I believe our list member when he says that he has that module working so whether "it works" or not really isn't the issue. The issue is how up to date information is on CCO. Especially when that is our main resource for determining configuration etc. I'm only pursuing this as far as I am because I have made what I think are incorrect assumptions based on info found on CCO. A client doesn't care why you were wrong - just that you were wrong. I can tell a client that hey! I got it working in my lab but if it isn't blessed by Cisco - you can't get maintenance. This incident isn't my first problem with CCO documentation. It is very easy to find conflicting information but sometimes very difficult to get someone to investigate it, especially in a timely manner. So it would be great if you report on whether it "works" but the real question is whether it is supported for warranty purposes or even if TAC will try to fix something that includes that module in a "non-supported" platform. Which is what Chris might find out for us - but even that won't be too helpful except maybe to finally get someone to try a bit harder in getting the proper info on CCO. I know that many new products and IOS versions are hitting the site every day but without co-ordination it will be difficult to use them effectively. Another twist to this is that the router that is working now with the module - the module was bought after the router. Did a reseller/partner advise that the module worked or did the owner just plop it in there? In either case - can the module be returned? Is it Cisco's fault that a separate piece was bought and then installed although it is not supported? This is the type of problem that inaccurate info can cause and with the price of Cisco gear you don't like to mess around - let alone buying something for a production network and finding out it doesn't work and having to back out of an upgrade. Or worse, you build it and find out that you can't get support for it! (even though you used Cisco provided information) Anyway, I can imagine that the list is getting tired of this thread, even though I'm doing most of the complaining (or because of it) I know that I'm getting tired of it.. so I'll just wait to see what Chris digs up. I have a few modules in stock that I will try it with. I'll use 12.1.5T IP as the version of IOS on the router. I will post my findings on groupstudy with the modules I have in stock. -Brad _ FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
