RE: Staic Routes on 1605 Router [7:52340]
A few things to try. 1. In EXEC mode type: sh ip int brief. confirm both ethernet interfaces are Up Up. If line is down check cabling 2. type debug ip packet and do a ping from a host on one subnet to a host on the other subnet. You should get a good idea form the output where the problem is. 3. If this doesn't work paste your config here for us all to see, would be easier to troubleshoot that way. One final thought, make sure your router interfaces are set to the correct speed/duplex on your hubs, take off auto-sensing if need be HTH Lee Craig Robertson wrote: Hi guys, I am having a problem with routing on a Cisco1605 router. Re: Staic Routes on 1605 Router [7:52340]
Hi again guys, Well after checking all the solutions offered, i am still in the same boat. I am not that new to cisco routers, however, this one is giving me a little bit of grief. I cannot ping the ethernet1 interface (10.128.52.1) from a pc directly connected to it, all on the same subnet. I have tired connecting via a small hub, both is the uplink on and off, and via a crossover cable. However, if i change the IP address on this interface to be part of our internal network, and connect from a cisco switch, the port works fine. Therefore it must be my config, which is below. |10.128.52.0|===|10.1.1.0| Can ping 10.1.1.18 (ethernet0 IP address) from 10.1.1.0 network Can ping 10.128.52.1 (ethernet1 IP address) from 10.1.1.0 network Can NOT ping 10.128.52.1 from 10.128.52.0 network Can NOT ping anything host on 10.128.52.0 network from 10.1.1.0 network My only conclusion is the way i have 'connected' to network. Ethernet1 is connected to a 3Com FastEthernet hub via a CAT5 straight through cable. I have also tried this config using a crossover cable, with the same results. Can anyone just confirm that if i watned to ping Ethernet1 interface (10.128.52.1) from the 10.128.52.0 network, both through a hub or directly to the interface, how would this be done? Thanks again guys, prob a simple solution that is starring me in the face. Regards Craig Craig Robertson wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Craig, This may be a stupid question, but have you set the default gateway on the PC to 10.128.52.1? Another silly suggestion... Are the Ethernet interfaces up? They must be no shutted as part of your config. Your config as you list it looks right to me. -S. Re: Staic Routes on 1605 Router [7:52340]
OK...I did this once and I'll state my embarassing moment. I had the exact same issue. Turned out I'd made a mistake and had put the pc on the wrong network. Was supposed to be on eth0 and was on eth1. Took me til the next day to figure it out. I figured I knew too much to have to check anything at THAT layer. After all...How much brains does it take to plug something in right? In a humbling moment, discovered it took more brains than I had at the time. :) Message Posted at: http://www.groupstudy.com/form/read.php?f=7i=52371t=52340 -- FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/cisco.html Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: Staic Routes on 1605 Router [7:52340]
Where does the 10.258.52.x network reside in your network? I'm guessing it also uses a 255.255.255.0 mask. If there is a PC or PC's on one of the 1605 ethernet segments with a 10.258.52.x address then you will need to add a secondary IP address to the interface those devices are off of. This is also called a multinetted interface. interface e0 ip address 10.258.52.x 255.255.255.0 secondary If the 10.258.52.x is on another router in your network then you add a static route or enable a dynamic routing protocol between the routers. The static route next hop will be an adjancent router off one of the 1605 interfaces. Example: ip route 10.258.52.0 255.255.255.0 10.1.1.1.x where x is the other router on the 10.1.1.x/24 network. That router would also need routes back to the 1605 networks. HTH, Erick --- Craig Robertson wrote: Hi guys, I am having a problem with routing on a Cisco1605 router.
