Very cool. I'd dinked with it a few times and never got it to work, and this solved it for me. Now it prompted for the browser to use, and I select IE and it just works. The problem with this has been discussed many, many times in this forum. Please check the archives for more details. The issue as I know it centers around the Verity product bundled with the CD. There was a long discussion that should be in the archives.. but the short of it... The first CD to support W2k I think is July 2000. Re: cisco documentation
Hi Computer Services, The answer to this and many other questions is in the archives. It's one of the best tools that we have! The Cisco Documentation CD works on Windows 2000. It's because the Verity search engine does not use or recognize the search path. - %ProgramFiles%, as you'll see in the registry. To get the Cisco documentation to work under Windows 2000: - Completely uninstall and remove all the related files from a failed installation of the documentation CD first! - Run regedit - Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/IE4/Setup/Path - Change the value from "%programfiles%\Internet Explorer" to the location where IE is installed on your system, for example "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer". - Install the Documentation CD HTH, Vern Stitt ASE, CCA, CCNA, MCSE ""computer services"" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote in message 000e01c0180e$60495000$b70b80cb@shamikh">news:000e01c0180e$60495000$b70b80cb@shamikh... Re: Cisco Documentation CD
Here is a workaround that has worked for all my machines. Cheers Rudi Installing Cisco Documentation CD in Windows 2000 *** IMPORTANT NOTE -- PLEASE READ *** These instructions are NOT recommended or supported by Cisco. They are not guaranteed to work and may messup your computer. The recommended solution is to run the CD on one of the supported operating systems or to wait until the next release of the Documentation CD which will support the Windows 2000 operating system. If you choose to use these instructions, you do so at your own risk. 1. Read the IMPORTANT NOTE above. 2. Edit the Windows 2000 Registry Key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/IE4/Setup/Path Change the value from "%programfiles%\Internet Explorer" to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer" or wherever IE is installed on your machine. 3. Uninstall the Cisco Documentation CD 4. Sometimes you will also have to manually delete files or directories from the original installation of the CD. 5. Re-install the Cisco Documentation CD and it should work. - Original Message - From: "Ledwidge, Feargal" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'Russell Lusignan'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, June 17, 2000 7:27 AM Subject: RE: Cisco Documentation CD > The CD's search engine uses Verity's search engine. Not this way. I got my Cisco CD run well w/ IE in windows 2000. It need some hack of the win2k registry. Go to file://HKLM/Software/M$/IE/Ie4setup or somewhere else, edit the path from %program files%... to the real path, like c:\program files\iexplore. Then uninstall the cisco cd prog, reinstall it. Re: Cisco Documentation CD
Where did you think of this information? Significant Architecture changes? The Cisco Documentation CD works on Windows 2000. It's because the Verity search engine does not use or recognize the search path. - %ProgramFiles%, as you'll see in the registry. You need to modify the NT registry, Run REGEDT32, goto HKLM\Software\Microsoft\IE4\Setup and you'll see Path=%programfiles%\Internet Explorer What you need to do is locate where your iexplore.exe is located and change the path as needed. So, if your iexplore.exe is located in C:, then change the path to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer", otherwise substitute the correct drive letter. - Original Message - From: "Ledwidge, Feargal" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'Russell Lusignan'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>; <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, June 16, 2000 4:27 PM Subject: RE: Cisco Documentation CD > The CD's search engine uses Verity's search engine.
