Very cool. I'd dinked with it a few times and never got it to work, and
this solved it for me. Now it prompted for the browser to use, and I select
IE and it just works. I don't know why Cisco can't just store the whole
thing in pure HTML so folks can browse it with whatever OS/browser you

The problem with this has been discussed many, many times in this forum.
Please check the archives for more details.

The issue as I know it centers around the Verity product bundled with the
CD. According to Verity's site (a couple of months ago), their web
publisher product does not support Win2K. I'm hoping that changes soon!

There was a long discussion that should be in the archives.. but the
short of it...

The first CD to support W2k I think is July 2000. (might be Aug)

To get it running you need to un-install any older Cisco CD software.

Then delete the cisco directory also.

Install the new CD.

This worked for me.

Has anyone figured out this problem? I went to the Cisco site and found
some documenation on how to fix this problem but it doesn't work. It tells
you to change an Internet Explorer registry setting and all will be fine.
Not.

After applying the recommended changes, I still can not use the

error and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program".

Re: cisco documentation

2000-09-06 Thread Vern Stitt

Hi Computer Services,

The answer to this and many other questions is in the archives. It's one of
the best tools that we have!

The Cisco Documentation CD works on Windows 2000. It's because the Verity
search engine does not use or recognize the search path. - %ProgramFiles%,
as you'll see in the registry.

To get the Cisco documentation to work under Windows 2000:

- Completely uninstall and remove all the related files from a failed
installation of the documentation CD first!

- Run regedit

- Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/IE4/Setup/Path

- Change the value from "%programfiles%\Internet Explorer" to the location
where IE is installed on your system, for example "C:\Program Files\Internet
Explorer".

- Install the Documentation CD

Re: Cisco Documentation CD

2000-06-26 Thread BIKEMAN

Here is a workaround that has worked for all my machines.

Cheers

Rudi

Installing Cisco Documentation CD in Windows 2000

*** IMPORTANT NOTE -- PLEASE READ ***
These instructions are NOT recommended or supported
by Cisco. They are not guaranteed to work and may
messup your computer. The recommended solution is
to run the CD on one of the supported operating
systems or to wait until the next release of the
Documentation CD which will support the Windows
2000 operating system. If you choose to use these
instructions, you do so at your own risk.

1. Read the IMPORTANT NOTE above.

2. Edit the Windows 2000 Registry Key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/IE4/Setup/Path
Change the value from "%programfiles%\Internet Explorer"
to "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer" or wherever IE
is installed on your machine.

3. Uninstall the Cisco Documentation CD

4. Sometimes you will also have to manually delete
files or directories from the original installation
of the CD.

5. Re-install the Cisco Documentation CD and it
should work.

Re: Cisco Documentation CD

2000-06-25 Thread BenFoo

Not this way. I got my Cisco CD run well w/ IE in windows 2000. It need some hack of
the win2k registry.
Go to file://HKLM/Software/M$/IE/Ie4setup or somewhere else, edit the path from
%program files%... to the real path, like c:\program files\iexplore. Then uninstall
the cisco cd prog, reinstall it.

Hope helps,

Re: Cisco Documentation CD

2000-06-19 Thread John Wu

Where did you think of this information? Significant Architecture changes?
The Cisco Documentation CD works on Windows 2000. It's because the Verity
search engine does not use or recognize the search path. - %ProgramFiles%,
as you'll see in the registry.

You need to modify the NT registry, Run REGEDT32,

goto HKLM\Software\Microsoft\IE4\Setup and you'll see
Path=%programfiles%\Internet Explorer

What you need to do is locate where your iexplore.exe is located and change
the path as needed.
So, if your iexplore.exe is located in C:, then change the path to
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer", otherwise substitute the correct drive
letter.

To get the doc cd working under win2k, do the following.
Completely uninstall the doc cd s/w etc. Using regedt32 or regedit, change
the following key value:
hklm/software/microsoft/ie4/setup
Change it from %program files% to c:\program files\Internet Explorer (c:
being whichever drive ie4 or 5 is installed on)
Reinstall doc cd and voila

Re: Cisco Documentation CD

2000-06-18 Thread SteveS

I agree, spent too much time uninstalling and reinstalling just trying to
get something out of my CD's. Even looked at Adobe's reader and found a
Verity search engine add-on in their. Plus Cisco CD's wants old QTIme
technology. GO figure.

Re: Cisco Documentation CD

2000-06-17 Thread Bharat Suneja

I think it sucks big time. why couldn't they make a better documentation
CD ? Does it make any sense for a company like Cisco to stick to a dying
platform like Netscape ? That browser has so many incompatiblities with
standards, it's hard to believe!! And this was true even before the AOL
acquisition.

I tried the latest documentation CD - I think I have March 2000. The CD says
I can set it up to use it with IE! However, after installation, it craps
out!

I can't even open simple HTML docs on the documentation CD (on Windows
2000) - all I get is garbled text!! Now, isn't HTML supposed to be read
equally well by all browsers ???

Please help Cisco!! A lot of us are now using Windows 2000 (it works great
on laptops, btw!! Much better than any other OS I've ever used!!), and
probably the majority of us use IE now! Don't shut us out of the
Documentation CD please!!

RE: Cisco Documentation CD

2000-06-16 Thread Ledwidge, Feargal

The CD's search engine uses Verity's search engine. This is waht their FAQ
says:

No, the current release of CD Web Publisher will not work on Windows
2000. Windows 2000 has significant architecture changes from its
predecessors. As a result, your current CD Web Publisher application will
not work. Support for Windows 2000 is planned. This support will require
the creation of a new application (i.e.: you will not be able to addthis
functionality into your existing application).

So ... we'll just to wait and see

Feargal

Anyone get a recent version of the Cisco Doc CD to run under Win2000 and use
IE instead of Netscape? I tried the Jan2000 version but it doesn't seem to
want to run under Netscape and IE. Anyone?

Russ..
