Re: Cisco Pro vs 2501

2001-01-29 Thread RCL

Some creep on E-BAY sold me one as a 2501. Next I
receive this Cisco Pro, basicly I could not up grade
the IOS past 10.x. SH VER - showed a cisco pro. Went
to Cisco's web site did a search on Cisco Pro -
downloaded a patch - result:

SH VER came back as Cisco 2501 and I was able to
upgrade the flase to 11.x, but case is still white
:-).

Humm.. I should just look for my receipt and
post his name, I sure he is still do Cisco and someone
in our group probablly knows him. - Well somethings
are best for gotten.

Hope that I answered your question.

Once upon a time- these models where sold by a lower level resellers
partners. Because of the boot code, you would only run IP IOS. Today- just
pop in a new set of "BOOT-2500=" ROM's the only thing separating a regular
router from the a mainline 2500, is the white paint :-)

You need the BOOT-2500= ROM's to move onto 12.0. All 2500 with 10.X ROM's
have issues with any IOS above 11.2 (maybe 11.3). Your box is no different.
The ROM's are free from Cisco, just pay the shipping.

Phil/Mark,

It has nothing to do with the boot ROMS. You need to run a "cookie", which
will upgrade the router from a CPA to a regular 2500. After you upgrade the
router with the cookie, it will run 25xx software and the only difference
being the color of the paint.

The location of the update file is:
http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Software/Tablebuild/tablebuild.pl/rsl
It appears that you need a valid CCO login (Service Contract) to access that
page.

Re: Cisco Pro vs 2501

2001-01-29 Thread Jaeheon Yoo

Hi, Mark

Before you upgrade your CPA to 2500 series(it will take you two
steps), you have to make sure that it should meet the memory
requirement of a new IOS, because some of that model have only 4MB
Flash memory in it. Well, that's the case for my own CPA 2501.

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios112/fp112rn/25_112rn.htm#41930

Hope this will help,

Regards,
Jaeheon
