Re: [CMLHope] About John Hopkins Cancer Update

2016-06-15 Thread Marty Gartenberg
Hi Angie,

Just want to comment on something that you posted about.

"This drug will probably be my last chance so pray that it keeps working".

Angie, Angie what am I going to do with you? We are now living in so much
of an advanced time concerning all of these new drugs floating around. What
is your mind telling you?

Please Angie you simply must take things one day at a time. I was the same
way with thoughts paralleling your thoughts. You do remember what we
recently spoke about? Well, it was the way that I used to be each and every
time I would have to get blood tests and ymay 20thou already know what
happened to me and now I also know what happened to you.

Once that was over with as I mentioned my attitude changed because I wanted
that for myself, and I had my wife beside me as well as our two small
children,

And I also want it for you as well and everyone here. I have been at this
for a very long time and what I was able to learn is to never give up. How
could I? I am no hero but a man on a mission as a promise to GOD.

I wrote a poem a very long time ago and I will pass it along right now.

You remember something Angie I wrote this when I was living in that 6x9
plastic bubble in a hospital way back in 1989. It was actually on the day
of my bone marrow transplant May 21st 1989. My actual birthday was on May
21st 1944, and get this: My wife's birthday is on May 20th.

So here is that poem that I wrote over a quarter century ago.. Please read
it. Angie and come away with a better understanding what FOCUS is all about.

This is coming from my heart because I have already been there.

I love everyone here. Why would I spend so much time and energy going this?
It is because I am compelled to do this

Hi Marty and thanks so much for the uplift. Yes I don't relax until the doctor
comes in and says my blood is ok. My blood pressure goes way up and even after
all these years it's still the same.
I too had to go once a week and sometimes more when I was first diagnosed. My
onc at the time had his own small blood lab so I would know right away. My
platelets were so high he once told me he couldn't believe it so he counted
them himself. He's the onc that put me in the hospital twice to have my blood
cleansed. Moffitt doesn't do that they depend on the tki to work.
You have really helped me to see the positive even through the bad things that
I have been through.
I go to Moffitt next Thursday and am hoping this new drug will keep me in
remission.
This drug will probably be my last chance so pray that it keeps working.
I am still worried about John. He was on Ponatinib also and he hasn't checked
in for a while.
Blessings everyone.

Re: [CMLHope] About John Hopkins Cancer Update

2016-06-14 Thread Marty Gartenberg
Like I just said, Jeanie your heart and mind are very powerful tools so
please keep up to whatever you doing Try not to think about some of the
negative things in your life but rather some of the positive things in your
life.

Hum, I see that you have been sporting among some other things at the end
of your posts the numbers 18's It is telling you something, isn't it?

Do not worry, anything that you may go through in your life you will be
able to handle, just think about that.

I already have when I got CML and had to go to my oncologist every week,
and sometimes twice a week for blood tests. After the test was completed I
was told to go back to the waiting room and would look at some of the
people there and would break into a sweat just waiting there and would
wonder what those other people were also feeling. Sometimes I had to wait
for about a half an hour just sitting there and wait to hear the results
and by the time I was called in to his office the back of my shirt was
soaked with my sweat. I will never forgot that, and I am also sure that
most of you if not all of you must also remember things like that.

Well I was then confronted with the fact that this kind of behavior wasn't
doing my any good because of all of the stress that I was going through, so
I decided at that time no more anxiety that would put me in that position
and I finally decided to look on the brighter side of my life, and I did.

Now, I am just a mortal human being, nothing more and nothing less with
feelings just as some of yours are as well, and I then decided that
whatever would happen I would no longer look at most of those bad things
anymore but just to go on, and so I did and still do.

There were several exceptions that made me not as I would like to have
been. When my father died followed by two years later then my mother then
my sister eight years later who by the way was my bone marrow donor, then a
few years later later my brother died then that put me in a depression that
was just not me but I was also able to deal with it and after a period of
grieving for each one of them. I was able to finally come back to myself,
and that also made me into a much stronger person.

These are some of my personal details that I usually don't discus with any
other people but I felt in necessary to post it here because I want you to
learn from me what went on with me at the time that I had CML.

Also if you want, how many of you had this same thing happen to you
concerning the waiting for the results of your blood tests? And I also
know for sure that you Jeanie have some of the same feelings that I had
because your worried about the outcome of your last blood tests.

Please Jeanie and everyone else that may be reading this you just have to
remember what I just wrote and learn that we all are the same and these
feelings are just human reactions or emotions as a better word may
describe, but when they continue to eat at you all that you need to do is
to simply change your attitude as I once did.

I prefer to live my life as best as I can, no matter what I go through
because I never forget that there may be some bumps in the road but there
also some very good times going along that road as well. How about you?

18's,

Marty

Re: [CMLHope] About John Hopkins Cancer Update

2016-06-14 Thread Marty Gartenberg
I am so sorry to hear about the tragic loss of your son. Please try to take
care of Grace. It seems that life has it's twists and turns. but Grace will
get through with this, just so much aggravation and grief.

My deepest condolences to you, Grace, and your daughter-in-law and the rest
of your family and friends

I still remain sending out my 18's and there is a good reason. My father
once taught me that when a loved one passes on that the loved person may no
longer be physically there, but that person will always be there in your
hearts and minds. Please take comfort in that.

My prayers are with you.

Dearest Greenie,

I am so deeply saddened to hear of your and Grace's news about your son Derek.
My heart goes out to you and your family now and in the future. I do not
believe there are words that can begin to express the devastation and loss you
must feel. I hope you and Grace, your daughter in law and the rest of your
family can find a little bit of comfort in the deep love and support that is
here for you, whenever you need it. We love you. We care. We want to be here
to listen and to comfort.

Surrounding you with prayers and love,

Beth

Re: [CMLHope] About John Hopkins Cancer Update

2016-06-13 Thread Marty Gartenberg
Hi Jeanie and everyone else.

Just to let all of you know I had to go to the hospital for an infection on
the lower part of my left leg, that I got I got last week. They had to
admit me and I was started on Vankromycen IV for the last week and just got
home today.

Just another small bump in the road for me.

I hope that everyone is doing well.

18's,

Marty
