Installed the tides track on Triumph in 2000 and went with a loose footed main.
Tides track is great - no problems since installed. As mentioned, the sail
falls completely down with full battens. No inserts needed!

I replaced the pump on my head (should it be in my head? (;-)) and even my wife
finds it so much better. She says that it was money well spent.

In Ottawa, it was even better $90 for the pump, $85 for the rebuild kit. A no
brainer.

Yep. My experience has been the rebuild kit is about $70 and the pump assembly
around $100. However the rebuild is about 1.5-2 hours and the pump assembly
replacement is about 30-45 minutes.

Amazing how many of my customers still wanted the rebuild kit. Even when I told
them my labor rate would make the total price more.

Stus-List Converting schaefer 1 inch traveller car

2016-07-27 Thread Jerome Tauber via CnC-List
My C&C 29-2 came with a Schaefer 1 inch traveller car that is no longer made.
I found an inexpensive way of converting this car to a twin block car and it
worked quite well. My 27-5 came with the same traveller car so I just did the
same simple conversion and thought I share it with list. The secret are Harken
10 bullet block sheaves with Delron bearings. They are 1.25 inches and a
perfect fit. Unscrew the eye strap and remove the two 1/4 inch screws. The
sheaves have a perfect match 1/4 inch hole. Cut a piece of 1.5 inch by 3x 1/4
aluminum bar for top plate and drill two 1/4 inch holes to mount strap.
Replace the original 1/2 inch long screws with 1.5 inch screws. Put the screws
through the strap, cover plate and sheaves and attach. Round the edges of the
cover plate. Makes a nice looking car and works well with no outside blocks
flopping around. You can even double the sheaves for a four block car if
desired. Sheaves are only $10. Jerry J&J

Re: Stus-List Grounding a mast - 30mki

2016-07-27 Thread Della Barba, Joe via CnC-List
I had lightning hit the water about 2 boat lengths from me while sailing. It
raised a nice splash of water/steam about 6 feet in the air. I then
contemplated my shoulder sitting against the backstay, my hands on the
stainless steel wheel grounded through the rudder cables, and moved over a bit!
Thread creep – metal airplanes generally survive lightning strikes with little
to no damage. I have been hit twice while flying and not much happened either
time besides for having to reset the radios for one. Fiberglass airplanes can
be blown to pieces by lighting and need to have a conductive mesh embedded in
the skin of the plane to be certified for flying in bad weather conditions.

PS – If you haven’t read this, please do:
http://www.marinelightning.com/Siedarc.htm
Note the concept for maximum protection is making sure all metal is connected
together on their sample sailboat with multiple terminals to discharge into the
water. The idea is no lighting will be wanting to jump from one part of the
boat to another with a person or expensive item potentially in the way.
PPS – When I in the business, about 75% of lighting repairs we did were from
lighting coming up the shore power cord from a hit on a nearby boat or power
pole.
