Stus-List c 39 davits
added to stern was not difficult as shape of stern small but relatively straight, most difficult was putting backing blocks between stern glass wallafter much trying to get backing blocks located , then mounted atkins & hoyle adjustable 3 piece davits on teak wood blocks between davit base and stern hull..did find dinghys over 8ft could get tied up when locking thru lock or pulling away from a dock...kept dinghy as high as possible .as far as i know still on boat , most important was to keep dinghy light weight and empty of water.lost track of location of boat...probably in caribean . ___ Email address: CnC-List@cnc-list.com To change your list preferences, including unsubscribing -- go to the bottom of page at: http://cnc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/cnc-list_cnc-list.com

marvel magic mystery oil works great on cylinders atomic 4 ,used it on a4 s for years,... calms engine down til it almost purrsas for diesels you usually add it to fuel , most widely used by large tractor trailer haulers who add it to fuel large marine diesel mechanics use it when tuning engines if had older marine diesel would use it. knew of one user in virgin islands who used it for at least 25 yrs on his very then old volvo diesel...it worked for him...it seemed to help with overheating problems.product info stated to be added to diesel fuel ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com

Stus-List rod vs wire keeps value higher?
have found a number of buyers who will not purchase rod boats or will deduct cost of replacement to wire from purchase pricethis is prevelent on great lakes also on west coastas to racing, wire can be just good as rod with right hydralics or mechanical devices...also we found with many race courses ..upwind starts...rest of legs off wind or beam reaches..fine tuning the rig best with wire..contrary to some experts upwind not where races won but at start and then downwind..having won more than our share of races in big boat series cca,ior 1,2,3 3a,phrf.as well as around the buoys in average size division 41cnc..this may give the experts a chance to comment... ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com
Stus-List rod vs wire
rod weight vs wire weight is not significantwindage not any real difference ..real problem with rod ,needs ends reworked about every 10 years...back in late 70s ...cnc introduced rod on inshore design models, as a marketing strategy...after using it on custom larger offshore models..it did seem to enhance the product sales...as a mass production builder.at the time it also worked out as cost saving measure..number offshore racing yachts in 70s 80s changed to wire again when switching from hydralics adjusters to new mechanical adjusters..and better wire choices...rod was a good marketing choice ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com

this must be one of those magazines at check out counters...like old national enquirer only more full of crap...these sailors trying to fulfill a dream...didnt work this time but hope they get it together and try again...any magazine that would print this misinformed nonsence is junk..as for the author needs to be mentally examined..her comparisons and views are nuts...this is example of what is what is wrong with a lot of north americans myely mouthed uninformed know it alls...some of main line tv press hardly any better in regard to their reports, however she takes the cake ..i started sailing at nine years old mostly on my own, but boat supplied by grandfather was like a rainbow class sloop, old ,cotton sails, was wooden hull, some serious leaks at first of season..but sailing by myself in adirondacs in nystate to me was a great offshore adventure...my children had some advantage as 5.8 yr olds we had modern knarr class 31ft sloop that spent most summers aboard cruising racing lower great lakes...they handled it themselves as far as i know, few real problems...things seem to work out for kids...are today well balanced sucessful adults ...60 plus years later i have survived ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com

this is NOT balsa cored hullonly small deck areas have core...much of deck reinforcer with solid fir.the shrouds are aircraft aluminum should last longer than rest of boat...as long as fastings inside bulkhead which are wood still intact...the hull built by belleville marine ,,one of founding companies of cc mfg specialized in centerboard boats example corvettes, belle marine made a lot of aircraft industry aluminium parts especially wings i believe...ALSO RUDDER frame rudder post probably aircraft aluminum...even battery wire was welders wire centerboard was bronze casting...as is usually the case these features did not continue to be used because of cost in mid 1970s...except boat s from custom shop..stainless steel was the cheaper replacement in many cases... ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com

gfi needs to be on only first outlet on alternating current line...probably have more than one line ...an extra gfi in the line is good way to keep spare,,,with gfi more you pay perhaps more you get ..however..all must meet american standards which require d to be employed in damp areas...not to be negative get ones built in usa or germany where mfg. standards tend to be more regulated than possible cheaper 3rd world countrieshave had gfi on all 6 independent lines...while at it consider home also bathroom , kitchen ,workshop.mine have kicked off a few times over the past years . easy reset if nothing wrong on line ..usually winter dampness if living aboard with electric heaters... ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com

it appears much of the current manufactured units have a lifespan some times only a few yearswe are still using 1970s brooks gatehouse depth sounders ..work excellently...only in last year needed reader head serviced...done by bg dealer 65 dollars...have two units both operating well...part of this they are sealed units which you open before each season make sure they are not damp pink is damp blue is dry...if need to dry..heat in low temp oven until sensor is blue.very low teck.mentioned them to two different cruisers both have searched used marine stores are very satisfied with results over last 7 to 10 years of cruisingunit operates on 4 AAA batteries for little more than yearmany european yachts still using original bg 1960 units successfully...costs used 100 to 150 for complete units..all wiring, brass thru hull fitting, with repeater readout in cockpit plus nav station unit readout. seems like good value to us...these units are bg built in england...not after being... taken over ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com

Stus-List rudder bearings
rudder bearings on older cc designs 1970s really quite simple not complicated.if my memory from the shop in oakville they were really simple with not much to breaksimply block the rudder to prevent it falling out..unhook steering cables ..pullout cross pins..or any other stops...if anythe rollers can be removed...rudder should be free.from down below with a helper ..rudder heavier than you thinkmove it back forth it will come lose...just carefully lower to ground.if in freezeing climate store in heated areaany water seepage will expand and crack coveringtwo most possible areas to check turning blocks for steeringcable bearings if edson easily replaced..if wire never replaced good idea.other area is where rollers run on bearings check for wear bearing dereline is simple ring easy to obtain and replace.if rudder shaft stainless not much more to doas long as bearing box still well fastened...if need be repair reglassif aluminum will need grease conduits cleaned out regreased.mine aluminum cleaned with new grease nipples . regreaseddepending on original owners needs aluminum option often selected because lighter in a wt sensive area...not a hard job as long as rudder will clear ground ...which on viking it should as long as original rudderif need more info i can check see if still have original diagrams... ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album http://www.cncphotoalbum.com CnC-List@cnc-list.com
