Stus-List Re: [EXTERNAL] Re: Selling my 1975 MKII

2022-12-12 Thread Kevin Benoit via CnC-List
It is the original Westerbeke Four-60. It ran a year ago and turned over
but didn't start 6 months ago. Last week it wouldn't even turned over.
Couldn't turn it via flywheel either but I didn't spend much time on it.
It still has oil in it. My gut says that someone that knows what they are
doing can get it going. That said, it is really undersized for the boat.
15 knots of headwind and you are not making much progress at all. So I
would recommend planning to replace it.

Stus-List Re: Selling my 1975 MKII

2022-12-11 Thread Kevin Benoit via CnC-List
Deck is solid. I’ve over bored and filled many of the hardware mounting
points but some remain that do slightly leak. Also some minor leaking in
the v berth along the toe rail. Standing rigging was inspected in 2018.
Headstay was replaced then. The back stay adjuster failed in 2021 when I
was in Guatemala so I replaced it in a pinch with a new static one. I
still have the old one and the adjuster. Chain plates are in great
condition. Keel bolt plates and nuts were replaced in 2018 and were
torqued. Still in great condition. Mast step was glassed before I got it
and is in great condition.

Main sail was new in 2018 and is in very good condition. Genoa came with
the boat and is in above average condition. I had some sewing redone and
the sun cover replaced in 2021.

Re: Stus-List cockpit cup holders (solar panel mounting)

2019-10-07 Thread Kevin Benoit via CnC-List
Sure. I actually just modified a radar arch from a power boat that I found
at a local chandlery. Had to cut it shorter and modify the mounting plates
to match the deck curvature then used starboard as a base and thru bolted
it. The backing plates are also stainless. Unfortunately, I don't have
many specific pictures of the install but here is what I do have: Arch Pics
It was an ever-changing install but I'm very
happy with it. It is very sturdy. One thing that I have noticed on many
panel installs that, in my opinion, is a bit of overkill is the
bracing/frame under the panel itself. The panel's opwn frame is incredibly
strong and well built and I've never had an issue with the way we installed
them. The panels are used like a hard bimini and it's pretty typical for
people to grab onto them while stepping onto/off of the boat or when heeled
way over. She was moored in Isla Mujeres last year and Hurricane Michael
in its early stages swept through with 60 knot gusts and the panels held
strong with no damage at all. Happy to answer any other specific questions
you may have.

Finally my time to shine. I rarely sail without a beverage of some sort at
hand. I second Fred's solution. I really like the larger, sturdy 4 cup
mounted to the pedestal. Flashlights, sunscreen, whole wine bottles, Ipad,
endless possibilities beyond the usual beverage vessel options and your
drink is always at hand and stable amidship. I have extensively field
tested this setup and it never fails me.

My tricolor and anchor masthead combo light is from Marine Beam. I’ve never

It was my boat that Dennis repaired and the epoxy bond to the lead was

Stus-List Westerbeke 4-60

2018-04-12 Thread Kevin Benoit via CnC-List
My boat has the original Westerbeke 4-60 diesel in it and I’m having a bit
of trouble sputcing parts for it. The local Westerbeke rep has been of no
help, saying that he hasn’t heard of one of those running since the 90s and
even his superseded part list for it is obsolete. I’ve emailed Westerbeke
for guadance but haven’t heard back yet. Anyone have either a source for
parts or at least a cross reference list of compatible part numbers?

Re: Stus-List IPad Upgrade

2018-04-10 Thread Kevin Benoit via CnC-List
The Navionics app works well on my IPad Pro w cell data. Also flawless
using only GPS antenna but only for charting, the marina and attraction
guides obviously don’t work.

Re: Stus-List flexible solar panel on hatch

Be aware that any shadow on the panel greatly reduces it’s efficiency. I’m
not sure you’ll get much direct sunlight in that location.

2018-03-18 Thread Kevin Benoit via CnC-List
Yes. I forgot to mention Jack. He was a tremendous help in putting me in
touch with the right people locally. Many thanks.

Dennis and I have had a stream of consciousness discussion via email and
text for the past few weeks that I have rendered down to a nice, concise,
200 or so item spreadsheet!!! Ready to get to work.

Stus-List New 1974 C&C MKII 35 Owner

2018-03-18 Thread Kevin Benoit via CnC-List
Hi C&C Listers,

I'm a happy new owner of a '74 MKII 35'. I was told of your fine little
list here by Dennis Cheuvront of Touche' fame. Dennis taught me to sail
over the past decade or so racing and cruising on his boat. I have him to
now thank(or blame) for the help and guidance during the search and
purchase of my first boat. I looked at quite a few Pearsons, Morgans, and
many others but in the end I decided on a boat I already new pretty well.
I'm excited to get started and proud to own a boat with such a proud and
respected pedigree.

I am taking delivery of Second Wind (new name definitely forthcoming), from
Savannah to Pensacola Shipyard this week where I plan to do repairs and
refits to turn her into a little less of a racer and a little more of a
coastal cruiser. I just wanted to say how much help I've already gotten
from the site, the pics and from searching the archives. While compiling
my to-do and inspection lists, it was so much easier to plan for those
tasks having those resources. Just about every question I've had or
modification I've pictured have been discussed at some point.

I'm sure I'll have many more questions as the repairs and refits move
along, but for now I just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for
keeping this resource alive and available. I hope to become an active
member of the group as soon as I have something worthy to contribute.
