I just removed a Spectra Newport Watermaker, I believe a 16 Gal per Hour,
24V.

Lots of filters and spare parts.

 

Might be a little bigger than you are looking for, I don't know much about
them, just that it was in the way of streamlining things.

I installed a 12v Seafrost system on my 40. It was terrific. And so nice not
to be dependent on ice anymore. I liked it so much that I installed the same
system on Masquerade, my Baltic 47, though I have a separate freezer, now.

fitting out a 30 (great great boat, by the way). I don't think you have room
for an oven, do you? If you do, keep it. Nothing like fresh baked scones or
blueberry muffins for breakfast.

Another upgrade was an electric head, which the Mrs likes a lot. Jabsco
quiet flush would be a good choice there.

Because out cruising is going to be pretty far and wide in coming years, the
next thing to get installed here is a water maker that runs off our 24V
house batteries...no, I lie. The next thing to be installed will be an
electric main halyard/main sheet winch, which will make our lives much
easier, even if it does mean having the halyard tail in the cockpit, which I
hate as it gets in the way of lounging.

If you cruise or spend most of your time away from the dock. I would focus on 
adding the things to support that mindset. Refrigeration vs ice allows you to 
not have to get ice somewhere on a long cruise fwiw we mostly keep ice cubes in 
our freezer box. Stove with oven vs BBQ gives you cooking choices in the rain 
or spring and fall when it gets cooler inside. Some people never use the oven 
but it sure is nice when you do on a cool rainy day on the hook. We have a 
microwave and an inverter but seldom use either. I added 25 gallons of holding 
tank space (Great Lakes) to stay out longer and a solar panel too. All you have 
to do is look at why you return to a dock and it becomes clear.

Lewis,

Windstar has a built in Novacool 12v fridge with a small freezer
compartment and a Gimballed hillerange 3 burner range.
The gimballed stove mostly works great (though its low setting isn't low
enough) and it has been used many times in frisky weather.  The oven no
longer works, parts are NLA and like Edd, I use the space for storing pots,
which frees up some cabinet space making the galley stowage space actually
adequate.   It bugs me that the oven no longer works but it would see
little use anyway.   More importantly, summers are hot and even boiling a
kettle on the propane stove really heats up the cabin.   We also keep an
electric kettle aboard for use at marinas and have two good quality thermos
bottles which we stow in a rack, ready for use whatever the sea state.
One thing to consider is the approach my wife and i used years ago on our
22' trailerable.   I built a niche for a propane coleman camp stove which
was occasionally used in the cabin, but more often in the cockpit or
onshore.  (including pancake breakfasts on the granite islands of Georgian
bay with fresh picked wild blueberries)   My father is finishing his latest
boatbuilding project - a trailerable bluejacket power cruiser - and is
incorporating a slick modern butane stove, as is a friend refitting a
tanzer 26.   Between the heat, the space,  and the mess of a fried up meal,
this approach might be worth considering.

Our fridge uses 6a at peak load and 4.5 ish average.  After a lot of
optimization it works pretty well.When it's hot outside it runs
frequently, and uses a lot more power than at more moderate ambient temps.

I have considered battery charging options and based on my math, windstar
has just enough space on the bimini to install just enough solar panel
capacity to just keep the battery charged if just the fridge is running.
 Your 30 is a bit smaller, so I think you are probably right about an
icebox if you intend to be "off the grid"

Interesting question I have the same boat as yours
My wife wanted to do that
The stove was taken off of mine by previous owner and used a bbq on the
back of the boat
Maybe will put a fridge instead of the stove for now
My priorities write is Togo sailing next year instead of working on it on
the hard

Electric winches are way up on my list as well.  Having sailed a Jeanneau in 
the BVI with electric cabin top for main and halyards and powered genoa winches 
I was blown away by how easy it made sailing a big boat (45-50’).  Between that 
and the autopilot it felt like push button sailing and was incredibly relaxing 
even in 30+ knot winds.  As I get older that will likely be a requirement for a 
new boat (or self tacking jib or both).  Dave

operate on 12v. I have a manual coffee grinder, stove top percolator. My 
fridge/freezer is built in. Only items that are 120v are my space heaters,

I have a 79 30 Mk1 . It used to have refrigeration . I now use ice. It is well 
insulated . I have two butane stoves. They can be used in the cockpit .

Lewis, 

My built-in 12V fridge has a freezer box inside it. It was pretty easy to 
install and works very well.  However, if you’re not spending a lot of time at 
the dock, keep in mind that a fridge will probably pull up to 10 or more amps 
at any give time. I think mine pulls about 7 when the compressor is on. I have 
a fairly large bank of batteries, but certainly can’t keep it running for long 
periods of time without running the engine running or shore power charging to 
keep the system from bottoming out.  

I have not had a need for a microwave, but we do have a small coffeemaker. We 
also use the propane stove top often, but have never used the oven other than 
for storing pots to be used on the stovetop. 

I’ve often considered removing the oven, adding a large amount of storage, then 
installing an electric cooktop. This would also give me added storage in the 
starboard aft locker as I’d no longer need propane tanks. Doubt I’ll ever do 
that, but it’s fun to think about. Maybe if the oven/stove breaks….

am stuck on what  appliances to install. Fridge, propane stove, microwave, one 
of those coolers thats a fridge/freezer. Obviously the fridge and microwave 
would be dependent on shore power and we do not spend a lot of time at the 
dock, so what do most of you have?
