It partially depends on the USB ports.

I remember being able to make the USB ports be finable in DOS. But
this was on older MB's.

I would just prefer to run it all in one.

Re: [CGUYS] Windows 7 and Windows XP mode

2010-07-21 Thread TJPA
Doesn't M$ provide virtualization? I recall they bought out the original
company that sold Virtual PC for the Mac (great product then M$ proceeded to
destroy it). You should be able to run a virtual PC under Win7 and put XP on
that.

Worse case you could buy a Mac and run XP under a virtual PC on that. I think
Sun offers this too.

The advantage would be easier file transfer and possibly even ability to cut
and paste between virtual and real environments. At least that is possible on
the Mac. I would assume that M$ could do so ad well.

Well, hell. You can always keep an old box alive (or dual boot) just
to have DOS installed with your accounting program. It certainly
wouldn't take a very modern system. Maybe get a KVM switch to bounce
back and forth.

Thanks for the replies.

The old program I need (want) is called Accpac Plus Accounting. I've had it
for about 20+ years and have several different businesses accounting data on
it. The program is expensive and I never liked the newer versions that much
so I continue to use the old one.

I think I will give the XP Mode a try as much to learn about it and then

I've never used it, I've never had the need to bring old programs forward to
keep them alive. I'd suggest before you do it, do a little research and see
if they have modern programs that can handle what you need, sourceforge has
tons of free apps for windows. This is my first stop when I'm looking for
an app. I've stopped buying things like nero in favor of
smaller/lighter/faster apps like imageburn. Ask here, there may be someone
that has found a solution to one of your old DOS based programs to run for
the future.

can't imagine it would be over 20 gigs or so when you are done.

You are well within your limit.

500GB equals 465 useable.

Total used by OS will maybe be 50 GG.

Still 415 free.
