Re: [CGUYS] Droid/Eris questions
I found droid and brethren to be too big and square ...I like to one hand the fone and I opted for a slightly smaller screen device with great features and, the deal maker for me, triband 3g so I can use it in the EU as well as the USA (quad band 2g) ...it's the Motosurf a3100 ...I am accustomed to WindowsCE/PocketPC as I have an IPAQ PDA for years, so no learning curve for WindowsMobile6.1 ...I don't know if they will come out with WindowsMobile6.5 upgrade for this device which is androidish but Motorola made a today screen overlay which is great with pages to the side via carousel etc. -Original Message- From: mike [mailto:xha...@gmail.com] Sent: Saturday, January 02, 2010 11:35 PM Subject: Re: Droid/Eris questions Go into a store and use it a little bit, probably the best way to find out. I'm waiting out CES to see if anything really cool gets announced. The Droid is a near miss- I want a better keyboard than than one. More like my LG ENV with raised buttons not a flat plane of keys. The droid keyboard is everything I dislike about the touch screen keyboards but mechanical. Re: [CGUYS] Droid/Eris questions
Yes. But the rest of the hardware is pretty nice, the resolution especially. I wonder if Apple will announce in january a speed bump to their iphone line, it's getting dated. The snapdragon is going to start appearing in more and more phones across the board, offering nice video playback etc. On Sun, Jan 3, 2010 at 9:47 AM, John Duncan Yoyo johnduncany...@gmail.comwrote: I'm waiting out CES to see if anything really cool gets announced. I switched from a smartphone to an ENV2. My wife wants to upgrade to an ENV3 BB's do have a touch screen it is called the Storm 2. There are those sold on touch screens and there are those who are not. I am not sold on touch screens I want a physical keyboard. Re: [CGUYS] Droid/Eris questions
I believe many carriers allow a 30-day experience with a new subsidized device before you are fully committed to the 2-year contract. With ATT, I only needed to wait 18 months before going from a Q9h to my 3GS. It would have been 2 years if I had switched carriers. I've seen my 3GS perform noticeably faster than a friend's 3G. OS 4 is rumored to be soon and Apple seems to be on an annual summer cycle for new iPhone iterations. Re: [CGUYS] Droid/Eris questions
I have the sprint version of the eris and I find it extremely usable and well made. Everything I've wanted to do I've been able to, the soft keyboard is good, but not quite iphone good. The apps are plentiful, I don't find myself missing anything in that department. The droid I have zero experience with, I know it does not have a nice 'skin' over it like many HTC and Samsung android phones, but the core OS is the same as the other android phones so I imagine very usable and versatile. There are about four million reviews of the hardware on the droid, find a couple you trust (they are like movie reviewers) and read up. On Sat, Jan 2, 2010 at 7:58 PM, Andy Gallant a...@agallant.com wrote: Now looking at a Verizon Wireless promotion - buy a Droid and get a free Eris (naturally, Ts and Cs apply). The primary requirements are for two phones for voice, text, email, and web in the MD/DC area - at least one phone with physical QWERTY keyboard - personal and light business use - Verizon network. Some questions: 1. How is the Droid keyboard to use in practice? 2. Does this promotion make sense? 3. Are there compelling reasons to consider other phones that meet the requirements? Does anyone on the list have experience or anecdotes to share about either of these phones? As always, many thanks in advance. -Andy * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** * * ** List info, subscription management, list rules, archives, privacy ** ** policy, calmness, a member map, and more at http://www.cguys.org/ ** *
