[Cooker] MakeCD Problems
I know that I am beating this dead horse but somebody know how to do this thing right. I am trying to make CDs from a mirrored cooker website. I mastered working with rsync and mirror. My problem is using the MakeCD in the /"cooker/i586/misc/" directory. I do the command this way (as my local cooker is "/mnt/cooker/"): /mnt/cooker/misc/MakeCD -t /tmp/ -a /mnt/cooker/ I try the same thing with root access and I still get nowhere. Is there something else that I need to have because I got the impression that the MakeCD program was designed to be self reliant. Not requiring any program on my end to run it as it appears to be mostly all perl. Am I wrong in this accessment? Thanx for any input anyone can provide.

OK, in 8.1 Mandrake set up the right Windows key as the Multi_key, which seems not to still be the case in Cooker (hopefully they'll fix that). So, if you're on Cooker, run: xmodmap -e "keycode 116 = Multi_key" as a temporary fix. The aspell one is $HOME/.aspell.english.pws. Copy the first line of .aspell.english.pws ("personal_ws-1.1 english 34" in mine) to the top of .ispell_english and you'll find it will work. [Cooker] Aspell / Ispell and installation
Because of the discussion I just noticed that Mandrake does not install correct dictionaries for aspell / ispell. I have both aspell and ispell installed, and chose Czech as installation language, and on the Advanced tab also English and German, But after installation, I got only : [michal@bladerunner michal]$ rpm -qa|grep ispell ispell-de-3.1.20-16mdk ispell-3.1.20-16mdk ispell-en-3.1.20-16mdk and: [michal@bladerunner michal]$ rpm -qa|grep aspell aspell-0.33.7.1-1mdk aspell-en_GB-0.33.7.1-1.1mdk libaspell10-0.33.7.1-1mdk On the other hand, I got: [michal@bladerunner michal]$ rpm -qa|grep man-pages man-pages-cs-0.14-1mdk man-pages-de-0.3-1mdk man-pages-1.39-1mdk There are both ispell-cs-3.1.20-16mdk and aspell-???-cs packages in Cooker, dated somewhere in Oct 2000. Is the installation script correct (I did install of 8.0, then upgrade to 8.1, always chose the above three languages)? Michal

[Cooker] Still problems with gimp-print and Canon BJC 6000
Hi! I still have problems with Cookers gimpprint and my Canon BJC 6000 printer. I checked my configuration and I am sure that I use the correct printer driver. All my printouts are double sized in horizontal direction. I know that an older gimpprint package was ok (probably the one released with Mandrake 8.1 - but I will check that soon). Should I try to compile gimpprint by myself from latest gimpprintCVS and/or should I report the bug to the gimpprint people? Alexander

Fwd: Re: [Cooker] supermount and laptops with removable modules
Manual mounting is a foreign concept to newbies so I know there is danger in it, however, I still think it may be wise to give a choice with an explanation. Maybe have a laptop option during install, which will set the system up safest for laptops and auto load a faq with details so that the newbie would have a 1-2-3 process of enabling/testing features to see if it works. With some time the faq could be laptop brand specific and then eventually model specific. However for this release, it could be more generalized. This option could also load a standardized laptop kernel. This would help resolve such issues such as APIC. With time there could be .config files pre-created and tested for many different laptops and a 1-click button that would compile and install this kernel for the newbie. Maybe even an option that would remember the choices and auto-compile/install whenever the kernel-source is upgraded. I know there is an existing program called ik (install kernel) that has already automated most of this, it may be mdk modified for the distro. > --- Robert Fox <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > I reported this several time before - on my > notebook > > there is a serious > > delay after a new install mounting filesystems. > And > > KDE acts real slow > > because it's constantly trying to access the > > ls-120/CD combo drive, > > > > The solution is to "supermount -i disable" and > > reboot - all is then OK > > but of course, manual mounting is required from > that > > point on! > > > > Cheers, > > R.Fox > > > > > > > > On Fri, 2002-02-01 at 12:51, Guillaume Cottenceau > > wrote: > > > SI Reasoning <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes: > > > > > > > Maybe supermount should be an option instead > of > > the > > > > default. [Cooker] Appeal to ftp.uninett.no rsync users
If i could appeal to people that syncronise their local cooker directory with that of ftp.uninett.no with rsync.: Please use gft and the "Tools" -> "Compare Windows" function to syncronise the RPMS and RPMS2 directories, and rsync for the rest so that rsync is not used to transfer the large amounts of data in those directories, but rather all the large number of smaller files in many different directories. [Cooker] Problem with latest xcdroast
Copying a data CD with the latest xcdroast and cdrecord form Cooker does not work anymore, An inserted Data CD is not recognized, you can't read it, on-the-fly doesn't work too. The same works with an audio-CD. [root@]# rpm -q xcdroast cdrecord mkisofs xcdroast-0.98-14mdk cdrecord-1.11-0.a13.4mdk mkisofs-1.15-0.a13.4mdk bye suka
[Cooker] feature request for rpmdrake
I have a couple of feature requests for rpmdrake: 1) if it errors out, tell me why (i.e. max. anon ftp reached, let me know instead of just "due to some error") 2) depends-on and is-depended-on tabs. I would like to know what package depends on a particular package and vice versa. I know there are command line tools for this already. I would like to see it in rpmdrake. A couple of other items to note: 1. When entering the configuraiton screens for SNF it can't find a whole lot of information from the install in regards to the base network settings entered on the install. Almost like having to configure it twice. 2. What would be nice to add to the default SNF install is the caching dns server. 3. Was anything with the graphical elements changed from 7.2 to 8.2? The menu items seem to be larger and don't layout quite as nicely as 7.2 seems to. 4. I have other items but I need a little more time to come up with since they relate to the configuration of the firewall and I have to go back through a few items config wise.. -randy
[Cooker] error messages on reboot
I noticed this morning a bunch of messages I had never seen before when starting my cooker box. From syslogs I have copied this, which seems to be the problem area. Also,I am unable to burn a cd, it seems that cdrecord cannot find my drive, which worked fine last week. I don't know if it is related. [Cooker] Replacing ispell with aspell
Kaixo! Recently I learned that it is possible to create an aspell language file from an ispell one. So, I wonder if it isn't now time to do the switch (I had asked to keep ispell when aspell has been introduced in the distro as there were (and still are) several languages for which there are ispell files but not aspell ones). aspell and ispell have different interfaces and command line parameters however. So, I wondered, if we provided a shell script called "ispell" to do the needed compatibvility support, removed the ispell language modules that have an aspell one, and coverted to aspell the ones existing only in ispell; would that be ok ? If you use ispell I would like to hear from you about this. If there is no objections, I would start the switch. >From a packager/mantainer point of vue, the package aspell will include a compatibility script "ispell", and the package "ispell" will be moved to contrib (or at least put with a very low priority in DrakX), and have the binary "ispell" renamed (to "ispell.original" or something like that); and it main purpose would be to allow the conversion of ispell packages to aspell (as the process involves use of ispell to expand to a raw wordlist). So, for packages having only ispell equivalent the build process would be: - create ispell hash - expand ispell hash to wordlist - convert wordlist to aspell file - package an rpm with the aspell files Thanks -- Ki ça vos våye bén, Pablo Saratxaga Není poøád májový veèer. -- holandské pøísloví
[Cooker] rpmdrake and kernel-source
One small issue regarding rpmdrake and kernel-source. When I get kernel-source in my "updates only" filter and install it with the rest of the updates, it actually installs as new so that the existing kernel-source continues to exist. No real problem there (except maybe space wise), except that the next time I use the "updates only" filter, there it is asking to be updated again and showing the older kernel-source as the currently installed one. __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: [Cooker] supermount and laptops with removable modules
--- Robert Fox <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I reported this several time before - on my notebook > there is a serious > delay after a new install mounting filesystems. Re: [Cooker] supermount and laptops with removable modules
If I remove the floppy and replace it with a battery or cdrw, the system freezes during bootup, right at the mounting section. If /proc/mtrr exists, then (a) it's built into the kernel, and (b) your CPU supports MTRR (it's a CPU feature - K6-2s stepping 8 and up, K6-3s, Athlons, some Cyrix chips, and P2/P3/P4 (including Celerons) have MTRRs or a close analog). > The XFree86 log file indicates that XF doesn't baulk at any of the modules it > loads. [Cooker] install report & bugs: 31.1
Latest rsync from ftp.uninett.no (yes, it's nearly impossible to connect!!!) Mandrake: how about another always-up-to-date rsync mirror like ftp.uninett.no !??! Anyway, here are the bugs: 1. Diskdrake (during install): if you choose (in "options") to have an encrypted filesystem, it asks for a password that must be at least 20 (!!) characters long. Sure this makes it very secure, but 20 is somewhat over the top - non? 2. Diskdrake (during install): This one i could reproduce - I tried because it seemed a somewhat strange bug. Conditions: Two harddrives (hda & hdd). Convert one of the partitions ( /mnt/haha - ext2 - hda5 ) to encrypted mode. / and /home partitions on hdd. click Format / and /home on hdd Error message (during formatting): "fsck failed with exitcode 8 or signal 0" Install log on : (excerpt which looks suspicious) "calling losetup -p 0 -e AES128 /dev/loop0 /dev/hda5" "mounting /dev/loop0 on /mnt/mnt/haha as type ext2, options encrypted, encryption=AES128" "running fsck.ext2 -a /dev/loop0" "warning: fsck failed with exitcode 8 or signal 0 at /usr/bin/perl-install/fs.pm line 620" Reproduceability: I could reproduce this bug given the same Conditions, but i could not reproduce it if i had all three partitions ( /mnt/haha and / and /home ) on hdd. good luck with this one! 3.KDE: The first time I installed kde 2.2.2 & 3.0 When logging in with "default" windowmanager selected i log into kde3 and not kde2.2.2. The two are not able to co-exist happily (as has been reported on this list) probably because they use the same directory to store their config files. Also i can't log into kde 2.2.2, even when selecting "KDE" before login, i always login to kde3. 4.MCC: After a clean reinstall, in KDE (2.2.2): (this bug has been reported before, but is still important) MCC does not have a surrounding frame that would allow it to be moved/closed/resized. MCC is always in the foreground. 5. Hardware configuration: With my soundcard (Yamaha YMF-724) there is no out-of-the-box sound. In sound mixer (KDE) the "Asahi Kasei AK4540" mixer has following default settings that need to be changed to get audio. It would be nice if these were set up correctly: "PCM" device is muted and volume set to 0 "Master" device is muted and volume set to 0 "Wave Playback Volume" device (4th from the left) has volume set to 0 That's all for now! -- Sascha Noyes OpenPGP public key keyID: 7F9C4D6F Encrypted mail much preferred

th -13 kernel rpms are no longer on the pri mirrors. Is it time for -14 already. I'm going to wear out the nvidia src rebuilding it everyday. (-: Charles

[Cooker] KDE logout -> DCOP hang
Hi Version.(fmirror ftp.uninett.no) Mandrake Linux Cooker-i586 20020131 12:35 /ChangeLog/1.638/Wed Jan 30 00:26:51 2002// I am in KDE, with eight desktops, two konsole, one konqueror, one mozilla and one kmail is up. I press Ctrl-Alt-Del and in the dialog window I press OK for logout. In the console mode I get: Waiting for X server to shut down DCOP: unregister 'kded' [guran@One09 guran]$ kdeinit: sending SIGTERM to children kdeinit Exit. DCOPServer: slotTerminate() -> sending terminateKDE signal DCOPServer: slotSuicide() - exit Here I have a complete 'loop', and the above two DCOP take a very long time to appear. Have to hit Enter to get to prompt. According to my understanding the closing down of of the xserver should function like a FILO queue, here it looks like the xserver is shut down prior to KDE. regards guran -- Mandrake Linux 8.2 Cooker kernel-2.4.17.13mdk-1-1mdk version:2002-01-31-12:35
[Cooker] my ensonique 97 card
I downloaded the new mandrake 8.2 bea, and everything work fine for me, without my ensonique 97 card. (iht was detected, but doesnt work!!) I tried compliling myself the kernel, and I got this : drivers/sound/sounddrivers.o: In function `es1371_probe': drivers/sound/sounddrivers.o(.text+0x5ec6): undefined reference to `gameport_register_port' drivers/sound/sounddrivers.o: In function `es1371_remove': drivers/sound/sounddrivers.o(.text+0x5fda): undefined reference to `gameport_unregister_port' make[1]: *** [kallsyms] Fehler 1 make[1]: Verlassen des Verzeichnisses Verzeichnis */usr/src/linux-2.4.17-10mdk* make: *** [vmlinux] Fehler 2 I don't know what's the matter, I hope it will be fix for mandrake 8.2 final. oh, yeah, one thing : my card worked in Mandrake 8.1, but the volume was to low ... so I didn't notice it. and I had to adjust the sound EVERYTIME I started linux ... because everytime I reboot linux, the sound was again not audible :-(( (ok, I know, my english is bad! and I'm newbye, perhaps I did mistakes by configuring my card.) mfG Daniel __ Gesendet von Yahoo! [Cooker] my Ensonique 97 card
Hi ! I downloaded the new mandrake 8.2 beta , and everyting (CD-Burner, T-DSL connection,Zip-drive...) worked well for me, without my soundcard. I've got a Ensonique 97 based card. Mandake detected the card, but It doesn't work. So I tried to compile the kernel my self, and I got this : drivers/sound/sounddrivers.o: In function `es1371_probe': drivers/sound/sounddrivers.o(.text+0x5ec6): undefined reference to `gameport_register_port' drivers/sound/sounddrivers.o: In function `es1371_remove': drivers/sound/sounddrivers.o(.text+0x5fda): undefined reference to `gameport_unregister_port' make[1]: *** [kallsyms] Fehler 1 make[1]: Verlassen des Verzeichnisses Verzeichnis »/usr/src/linux-2.4.17-10mdk« make: *** [vmlinux] Fehler 2 So I don't know what is the matter, I tried everything. The sound card worked on Mandrake 8.1, but you couldn't hear it : I had always to us kmixer (at EVERY start) of kde, to fix it. after I found, that using aumix fix this problem. but It would be nice to set the volume (so as in suse) at the installation. Or u have to set the volume from Ensonique cards higher . :-) I know my english is bad ! and im a newbie! so don't be to strong ! mfG Daniel * Universität des Saarlandes Lehrstuhl Pr.
