I will try to reproduce the errors tonight and do a Bug report, btw. bugzilla is F slow which makes error reporting a pain. why not releas a RC3, and if no showstoppers are found it can be final, otherwise do a final with minor corrections from RC3! just my 2 cents /Glen ps. 9.2 is still the best Mandrake ever.

[Cooker] Incredible Shrinking gnome-terminal?
This is a rather odd one...has anyone else noticed their gnome-terminal shrinking in the last month or so? It's a very vague problem I know, but several times I've noticed my terminal window looks a bit small, clicked the drag handles and found it at about 76x20 size, instead of the 80x24 it started out as and to which I resize it again. I tried it briefly at home but it segfaulted, maybe because I was not running the proper kernel at the time? well the kernel patch and the gradm both needs to be the same version... or they will most likely not work... since they interact... I did plan to test and correct them before I add them to the i586 package, so I left them only in the SRPM... but since current kernel-secure is broken, I need to fix that one first... I hope to solve both today... Ohh, a lot of work there... Yeah... BTW. is the sysctl stuff fixed now or is still on by default in the secure kernel? Eventually ending up with a screen shot like this. http://www.gkmweb.com/images/9.1-KDE_vnc.jpg The desktop keeps flashing periodically. GNOME has a similar behavior in that it flashes, but the desktop seems to load. Occasionally after one of the flashes, an error message pops up a dialogue box that says KDesktop error. Sorry, i was not able to capture it. I thought maybe the Galaxy theme had something to do with it, so I switched KDE to the Keramik theme, and it still exhibited this behavior, although the the error message and the flashing stopped occurring when GNOME was running. So maybe it does belong to Galaxy, and that led me to post it here as a KDE-Galaxy bug. vnc logs have nothing interesting in them and the system logs are equally bare on this issue. What did it used to say? rpmsync is just cooksync (the old link) with command-line argument support. It shouldn't say Use fmirror or rsync to create a local mirror and keep it up to date. Certainly it doesn't make a difference how you create the mirror (although rpmsync can handle that too), but definitely rpmsync should be used to keep it up to date. The default settings in the script have it set to sync from uninett, and there's a README that comes with the package explaning how to set it up for Cooker (in which case you'd only need to change the remote mirror possibly and the local path).

Re: [Cooker] urpmi.update weirdness
Udo Rader [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: hi, Hi, as many others I have a local cooker mirror here is updated frequently via troels.rsync. For a couple of days (weeks?) now I find urpmi.update reading all headers of all files in my cooker repository over and over again no matter if they have updated or not, resulting in quite long processing times. So urpmi.update is building the hdlist itself as you do not rsync it ? Not too much of a problem, but I thought previously uprmi.update would only process the changed (timestamp?) files? Or am I missing something here? Strange, yes it should be that way, except if you use --clean somewhere ? François.

The same happened minutes ago when trying RC2 This is roughly compatible but results in strong static-like noise superposed to the sound output when playing numeric samples (as in .WAV, .MP3 etc...). If I manually switch (using harddrake) to the VIA82CXX driver, and then restart the X server, the problem is gone. I'm working in the HW bussiness so I quicly found out, but for non-tech users this could be less easy to guess. Regards, PhB

There's really a problem. Having fixed date is bad or else they should add 1 or 2 weeks more just in case. For example instead of saying 22/09, they could say 06/10. I tracked the fault back to a change to 'record.c' in libvoice, where default arguments to set_compression are passed in without initialisation. In stock vgetty, the arguments are passed in as members of a structure (which has been initialised to all zeros), but Patch12 (mgetty-1.1.28-64bit-fixes.patch) replaces the actual structure members with new local variables, and then copies the results into the structure afterwards. This breaks because the local variables are not initialised (to zero) before set_compression is called. According to the changelog, this is a mandrake localisation: * Thu Nov 28 2002 Gwenole Beauchesne [EMAIL PROTECTED] 1.1.28-3mdk - Temporarily leave mgetty+sendfax data in %{_prefix}/lib, will likely have to be moved to %{_datadir}/mgetty+sendfax/ - Patch10: Welcome it to wonderful x86-64 world - Patch11: Add missing includes, not critical but saner - Patch12: Minor 64-bit fixes, probably better to fix set_compression() so there's no point me reporting this upstream - it needs to be fixed in the mgetty rpm build. Here's the one line change to the patch that fixed it for me: Patch for mgetty-1.1.28-64bit-fixes.patch: (needs refactoring, of course): *** mgetty-1.1.28-64bit-fixes.patch.old 2003-09-17 19:43:09.0 +1000 --- mgetty-1.1.28-64bit-fixes.patch 2003-09-17 19:43:27.0 +1000 *** *** 4,10 int result; rmd_header header; int bits; ! + int compression, speed; lprintf(L_MESG, recording voice file %s, name); --- 4,10 int result; rmd_header header; int bits; ! + int compression=0, speed=0; lprintf(L_MESG, recording voice file %s, name); I.E. just patch the patch to initialise the variables. This then 'works for me'. This certainly needs fixing for 9.2+, but I suspect it should really be re-issued as an errata for 9.0 9.1 as well, as it has killed functionality that was in the original release, and effectively prevents any voice applications based on vgetty (i.e. most of them) from working (at least for any of the hardware modules that rely on their parameters being initialised). If you or anyone else would like to add anything particular about it (instructions, whatever), just let me know. What did it used to say? rpmsync is just cooksync (the old link) with command-line argument support. It said the same thing. I just put in the lines To install the rpmsync utility for Cooker: urpmi rpmsync instead of the link to your file. If you've (or anyone, per my original call for comments) got suggestions for the text that should go in there instead, I'm all ears. I didn't write the page, I just act as a sort of self-appointed librarian. I've got no experience with mirroring, and I didn't want to pollute the page with something I made up.
