[Cooker] [Bug 6086] [shorewall] Shorewall fails to load modules in 9.2RC2

2003-10-18 Thread [cooker-qa]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6086

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-19-10 05:12 ---
What does "added to the 9.2 errata" mean exactly? A bugfix RPM should/will be
produced, or simply a "notation" will be made in some documentation somewhere
for users that this is a known bug?

Where/how exactly do I go read this errata if it's only documentation?

If a bugfix RPM will be made available, how long will this take?

I installed Mandrake9.2RC2 with shorewall firewall and was having problems
making ftp transfers. After some investigation I determined that the problem was
that shorewall wasn't loading the ip_conntrack_ftp kernel module although that
module was listed in /etd/shorewall/modules.
The reason why the module wasn't being loaded is that the kernel module is
compressed in a file called ip_conntrack.o.gz and shorewall was searching for a
file called ip_conntrack_ftp.gz The patch bellow fixes the problem:

When hylafax-client is installed, the %postinstall scriptlet runs the
/usr/sbin/faxsetup script which checks for the presence of some programs,
including /usr/bin/faxmail, which appears to have been separated out of the
hylafax-client package into the hylafax-mailgateway package.

The faxsetup script in hylafax-client needs to be modified to skip checking for
this file.

When ldap is added to /etc/nsswitch.conf the machine will not shutdown or reboot
cleanly. It looks like what's happening is that the libraries are on the /usr
filesystem and
they are held open even after all processes are killed. If the /usr filesystem is not
on the
root partition, it cannot be unmounted.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
install nss_ldap on a machine that has /usr/lib mounted on a seperate partition from /
add ldap to nsswitch.conf per the nss_ldap documentation
reboot into single user mode
type: lsof | grep /usr
you should see ldap, sasl, and kerberos libraries
type: reboot

it should hang saying that the /usr partition can't be unmounted. The machine needs to
be powered off and the disks need to be fsck'd

removing the ldap options from /etc/nsswitch.conf makes the machine shutdown properly
again after the next reboot.

I recommend moving all of those libraries to /lib instead of /usr/lib since that is
usually on
the root partition.

When msec does it's daily run, comparing all of the files on the system to their
checksum in the RPM database, it should preserve the atime of those files.

Of course, when msec opens and reads the file contents in order to checksum them
so that it can compare them to the database, the atime of the file is modified.
msec should store the atime before it opens and reads each file and restore it
back to that value when it is done.

The problem is that _every_ file on the system shows as being accessed within
the last 24 hours even though this access is "synthetic". In other words,
having the atime reflecting opens for system maintenance nullifies the value of
the atime and it may as well not even be there.

OpenOffice.org-l10n-en-1.0.3-2mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied OpenOffice.org == 1.0.3)
do you agree ? (Y/n)

Which is because there is no libstdc++3.2 in Cooker anymore. It has been
upgraded to libstc++3.3.

OpenOffice.org needs rebuilding against it.

When a non-privilleged user tries to run minicom, it fails with a permissions
error trying to create a lock file in /var/lock. This is because minicom runs
without any elevated privilleges, and non-privilleged users don't have
permissions to create files in /var/lock.

Because xterm's postinstall calls update-alternatives, it needs a PreReq of "rpm".

%postinstall calls /usr/sbin/update-ldetect-lst which is a perl script which
itself calls "cat" to concatenate several files together into a single file (I
won't even go into how easy this would be to do in perl itself and avoid the
"system()" to use cat to do what perl could do itself very easily).

Therefore, this package needs a PreReq. of coreutils (or fix the script to not
use cat).

[Cooker] [Bug 3637] [urpmi] New: global option exlucdpath in urpmi.cfg not working

2003-04-02 Thread cooker-qa
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3637

   Product: urpmi

  Platform: PC

  Severity: normal

ReportedBy: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Through reading of the source of urpmi and urpm.pm, I have discovered that
setting some "global options" in /etc/urpmi.cfg is supposed to be possible.
>From my reading of the source, the stanza

{
excludepath: /usr
}

in /etc/urpmi.cfg should apply the --excludepath /usr option to all invocations
of urpmi. It does not seem to work however. Despite my having the above stanza
in the config file, and the code in urpm.pm seeing and using it, I still get the
following error trying to use urpmi to install with a readonly /usr:

# urpmi zisofs-tools
installing //mnt/mandrake/9.1-tree/Mandrake/RPMS/zisofs-tools-1.0.4-1mdk.i586.rpm

Preparing...##
1:zisofs-tools error: unpacking of archive failed on file
/usr/bin/mkzftree;3e8affc5: cpio: open failed - Read-only file system

As an addition, it would be nice if the urpmi package included a manpage for the
urpmi.cfg file so that everyone does not need to learn perl and read the source.

Despite my recent whinings about urpmi, I do think it's a great tool, and I love
holding it up against Debian's apt tool for comparison.

True, I could "mostly" simulate it, however is it a hard and fast rule that
"documentation" files are always in /usr/share/doc (or whatever the macros file
directs)? Could they not be sprinkled elsewhere?

In any case, if --excludepath /usr/share/doc was sufficient to cover all cases,
it would be simple to map --excludedocs to --excludepath /usr/share/doc within
urpmi.

The urpmi you attached works great with --excludepath, thanks!

When will an update be in Cooker?

It would be awesome if an update to 9.1 could be done also. This is a bug

But how to do that? One way is to boot via CD-ROM or floppy or some other
clumsy method. But much better, is to have the initrd resize the filesystem
before mounting it! And the best part is that it's braindead simple to do.

The following patch to mkinitrd adds ext2resize to the initrd and modifies the
linuxrc to always try to expand the root filesystem to the size of it's
underlying device. If it's already as big as the device, nothing happens. If
the device is bigger, the filesystem is expanded to it's size.

So to increase the size of the root filesystem, one simply expands the device
it's on ("lvextend -L+20M /dev/rootvol/root" for example) and then reboots!

This technique could be used in the initscripts to resize other "difficult to
unmount" filesystems like /var, although that can be done relatively simply by
switching to single user mode. But I digress. The patch to mkinitrd:

Well, it seems to be a simple case of either a portion of the patch is failing
to apply, or one of the post-patched files is being overwritten/undone by
another patch or somesuch.

I inspected the kernel-source and compared against the latest vfs-lock patch and
everything except drivers/md/lvm.c seems to be patched. For some reason, that
one file is not getting patched. Perhaps the patch itself is missing that file?
Perhaps some other patch is undoing the changes?

I cannot tell very easily what the problem is because Mandrake's CVS SPECS for
the kernel has no details about what patches are being applied and what's in the
patches anymore (since the new patching script has been in place).

So are you going to PreReq: coreutils or basesystem in vim-common's SPEC?
coreutils seems to be really what it requires. Strictly speaking, as a package,
does vim-common really need basesystem (and all it provides)?

Yes, this bug is still present. I think I know why as well. The VFS lock patch
seems to be "mostly" in the kernel now, however there is one file that either
did not get patched or got reverted or overwritten or something. The file
drivers/md/lvm.c still has it's "pre-vfs-lock" contents.

If drivers/md/lvm.c got patched as per the vfs-lock patch this bug would
probably be fixed and closed.

I have tried to reassign this bug to chmouel, hopefully he can see what is going
wrong with the lvm patch. I hope he does not mind my re-assigning the bug to
him. :-)

[Cooker] [Bug 2559] [urpmi] cannot add cooker media with hdlist.cz

(For purposes of making this situation clear to anyone who is following or
anyone who finds this bug description in the future...)

But I can't edit the /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg entry because urpmi does get far
enough in the process to create that. However I was able to use "with
../base/synthesis.hdlist.cz" to get the source added. Of course, package
descriptions, summary, changelog etc. were not available, but this is the point
of the synthesis file.

Can you please update this bug when a corrected hdlist.cz file has been uploaded
to the mirrors?

As an aside, if the hdlist.cz is broken on the mirrors, I wonder why I am the
only one reporting it. I would have thought the Cooker list would have been
rife with complaints.

Do you really think this bug is a duplicate of 2110? They don't sound at all
related. 2110 describes problems with adding a single package and the problem
seems to be with the configuration of the remote mirror.

This bug (2559) is an error parsing the hdlist while trying to add an entire
source -- Cooker, as distributed by Mandrake! If there is a problem with the
configuration of the source, then there is a problem with the way Mandrake is
maintaining it, no?
