Re: [Cooker] cooker list spammed ??
When I say spam, I don't mean UCE, it's just a generic term I use for annoying mail that I don't care about and that pollutes my other mails. At first I thought that maybe a "newbie" clicked on my @ in the headers of a message of the cooker list, thinking he would thus reach the list, but the body was so unprecise and worm-like, that I wondered if someone hadn't started collecting addresses on this list to start some sort of "spamming". Hi all, Just finished trying the RedHat 7.2. Well, believe it or not, absolutly no problem even when booting from the CD (unlike cooker for which we need to boot with the network.img). Re: [Cooker] compiling kernel
Concerning the installation of the 8.0, Michel out here in RECIF used two "tricks" : - either he booted with kernel 2.2.x and it worked. - or he took the hard disks out of the machine, put them in a Compaq 3000, booted with a 2.4.x kernel and everything worked fine, then he put back the disks in the Compaq 1850. So, there really are two problems : the serial probe and the 2.4.x kernel. Re: [Cooker] compiling kernel
Hum, Maybe I've talked too fast. We made so many changes that when we started with a fresh new second stage file, it hanged once more. But, here's what to do : in /i586/Mandrake/mdkinst/usr/bin/perl-install/detect_devices.pm comment out the lines : sub probeSerialDevices { foreach (0..3) { devices::make("/dev/ttyS$_") } -d "/var/lock" or mkdir "/var/lock", 0755; -l "/dev/mouse" and $serialprobe{"/dev/" . readlink "/dev/mouse"} = undef; foreach (keys %serialprobe) { m|^/dev/(.*)| and touch "/var/lock/LCK..$1" } print STDERR "Please wait while probing serial ports...\n"; #local *F; open F, "$ENV{LD_LOADER} serial_probe |"; #local $_; #my %current = (); while () { # $serialprobe{$current{DEVICE}} = { %current } and %current = () if /^\s*$/ && $current{DEVICE}; # $current{$1} = $2 if /^([^=]+)=(.*?)\s*$/; #} #close F; #foreach (values %serialprobe) { # $_->{DESCRIPTION} =~ /modem/i and $_->{CLASS} = 'MODEM'; # $_->{DESCRIPTION} =~ /olitec/i and $_->{CLASS} = 'MODEM'; # log::l("probed $_->{DESCRIPTION} of class $_->{CLASS} on device $_->{DEVICE}"); #} } That's all. Then recompile mdkinst_stage2.bz2 Would it be possible as an option or kernel parameter to pass these lines when the mouse used is a PS2 ? In that case, I don't think there's any need to probe the serial ports which seem to hang the machine (don't ask me why). Yes, after not figuring out how to use my CD in precompiled kernel i compiled the kernel myself, doing so since test10. No problems with that, i've done it this time too, but, i asked the question if other users experienced the same problem, then maybe they forgot to enable SCSI CDROM support at kernel-2.4.0-xxmdk. If other user didn't experience same problems than it's my box who is making trouble. mfg Sven

No problems with that, i've done it this time too, but, i asked the question if other users experienced the same problem, then maybe they forgot to enable SCSI CDROM support at kernel-2.4.0-xxmdk. If other user didn't experience same problems than it's my box who is making trouble. mfg Sven > -Ursprüngliche Nachricht- > Von: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Im Auftrag von Alberto Vorano > Gesendet: Mittwoch, 24. AW: [Cooker] Vmware and Kernel 2.4.0
You'll have to use a new Version. I use VMware-2.0.3-799 and the installation works perfectly however i compiled kernel 2.4 from source and i don't know if it works with the precompiled Mandrake kernel. Just try the new version of vmware. mfg sven -Ursprungliche Nachricht- Von: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]Im Auftrag von Patrick Poncet Gesendet: Mittwoch, 3. I can't get it to work (i.e.: can't compile the vmware kernel modules...) Just wondered if anyone ran into that... Cheers, Patrick
