  Hi,
  ok, is this the big move to disable XF86 3.3.6 ?
  If not then all apps should work also with the old version of X.

 Hi,
 Once again:
 Is this the point that XF86 3.3.6 will be go away because most

 If no, please give me a hint how to get the KDE works like expected.
 I still have no proper working XFConfig for XFree 4.0.* for the TP 770X

[Cooker] Cannot create executables

2000-12-16 Thread Patrick Poncet

Hey all.

I ran into this problem a long time ago un the mdk7.0 days and always
managed to fix this problem. But here, I have to say I'm clueless...
Please help!

Here is the symptom (whatever I try to compile, it does not matter nor
changes...):

./configure
loading cache ./config.cache
checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... yes
checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) is a cross-compiler... no
checking whether we are using GNU C... yes
checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes
checking how to run the C preprocessor... gcc -E
checking for c++... c++
checking whether the C++ compiler (c++ ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C++ compiler

When I look at the config.log

configure:792: checking for c++
configure:823: checking whether the C++ compiler (c++  ) works
configure:837: c++ -o conftestconftest.C  15
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lstdc++
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
configure: failed program was:
#line 833 "configure"
#include "confdefs.h"
main(){return(0);}

I guess the 4th line (cannot fing -llstdc++) is the main issue.

Now... Here are the mdk package I have:

gcc-cpp-2.95.2-12mdk
gcc-2.95.2-12mdk
gcc-colorgcc-2.95.2-12mdk
gcc-c++-2.95.2-12mdk

libstdc++-2.96-0.24mdk
libstdc++-compat-2.95.2-12mdk
libstdc++-devel-2.96-0.24mdk

I tried to upgrade gcc, but I get conflicts

rpm -Uvh --test gcc*
file /usr/bin/c++filt from install of gcc-c++-2.96-0.24mdk conflicts
with file from package binutils-2.10.0.24-4mdk

so, tried to upgrade gcc and binutils at once but I get other conflicts...

The weird thing is that my env vars is as follows:

LC_COLLATE=en_US

I also checked that:

#rpm -qa | grep locale

 After you have upgraded the glibc, you must run:
 localedef -f ISO-8859-1 -i fr_FR fr -u mnemonic.ds

 probably you will get an error.
 then make a symbolic link from
 /usr/lib/locale
 to
 /usr/share/locale
 and do again.

Re: [Cooker] sawfish / rep-gtk / librep

2000-07-30 Thread Patrick Poncet

Hey!!!
You are absolutely right... Thanks.
All I had to do is a
ln -s /usr/lib/rep/i586-mandrake-linux/gtk.so /usr/lib/gtk.so
and that did the trick.
I guess Vincent Danen just fixed it in sawfish-0.30.3-1... I will try
right now.
Thanks again...

I had the same problem until I recompiled the source packages. The
%{_libexec} macro has been redefined in one of the last rpm packages
so
sawfish tried to load the gtk.so in /usr/lib/... when it really was
in
/usr/libexec.

 well, seems like gtkhtml api has changed quite a lot :(

2000-07-25 Thread Patrick Poncet

Hey all!

Has anyone tried to upgrade to rep-gtk-*-0.13a and librep-0.12* as well as
control-center-1.2???

All the sawfish capplets stoppped working. generating a process by the name of
rep (defunc) and getting the sawfish-capplet process in some kind of intense
CPU eating mode...

Any idea on how to fix that other than downgrading???

[Cooker] perl-GTK

Hi

Any reason why perl-GTK-HTML module is not included, when all the other
perl-GTK modules are there??? Is is because of gtkhtml libs??? Any chance it
will be included soon?

Cheers,

Re: [Cooker] IPMasqAdm

It's a good alternative/complement to ipchains... With xinetd, it may be
redundant though but still... It probably is a great idea to include it in
there... Mandrake-iziation is a good idea...

   it is a kind of ipchains like utility i have some code around here in my

   it is for my icq tcp syn ;)

  Looks like it does port forwarding.. nifty. Ok, I'll take a look

 i just care about what could be done with ipmasqadm, can it be done with
 ipchains ...i have no time to look inot this now coz i'm lazy about my
 rc.fireall (works fine)

 there are sme libc contribs oiut there , grab those and mandrake-ize? ;)

 THAT would be cool...

[Cooker] rpmdrake problems

2000-06-11 Thread Patrick Poncet

Hello all!
Just thought I'd report a problem with rpmdrake just in case someone
either ran into it or has a workaround (or both :))).
Whenever I add a new location (ftp, cdrom or local), rpmdrake stops
on generating depencies list leaving appearently inactive bot not dead
processes(as per "top"): rpmdrake, gendeplist2 and bzip2. Any idea?!?
By the way, congratulations on Mandrake 7.1, it's just getting better
and better all the time, and cooker really is helpful and beneficial.
Is it French too???

Re: [Cooker] Helix-Code Gnome

2000-03-19 Thread Patrick Poncet

Hey!

The dependency problems are no big deal... Things still work. What's more painful is
the bugs relating to the desktop icons and launchers. I found downgrading to the
original Mandrake 7.0 gmc fixes lots of problems with helix gnome. In other words,
don't use helix code's gmc, use gnome's original...

cheers!

Patrick

 Hi,
 Has anyone had any luck with installing Helix-Code Gnome on Madrake 7.0? I
 gave it a try, downloading the packages and then installing, but had some
 problems. A couple dependency problems and that I couldn't correct,
 libguile.so.4 and libbfd-2.91.0.24.so. When I finished the install and
 tried Gnome I had a run of problems. Most noticibly that the icons on the
 desktop were all screwed up. I no longer had harddrive icons, just folder
 short cuts, as with all the Mandrake icons. Is there anyway to keep the
 icons? I figure that they're lost when upgrading Gnome, but is there anyway
 to prevent this? I'm hoping that if I go through and solve the dependencies
 I'll be all set. I also noticed that I couldn't add any clocks to the
 panel. If I did, the panel would lock up. Again I'm wondering if the
 dependencies are causing this. I found the files that I think I needed
 afterwards when I was reinstalling Gnome from the orginal Mandrake files. I
 was just curious if anyone else had given it a try. Thanks.

[Cooker] X hanging...

2000-03-07 Thread Patrick Poncet

Hello there!

I need help figuring out what's happening with my X Window system on
mandrake 7.0. I have a laptop computer with a multifunction card.
Whenever the PCCard is in without LAN connection (eth0 up, no link),
when I launch X, it just hangs there forever. If however I start X
after taking the PCCard out (eth0 down), X works OK.

I have the feeling it has something to do with hostname lookup vs.
xauthority file, but I've spent hours trying to find out what do do
about it, without success.

If someone could help, that'd be great!

Thanks,

PS: I have an expert install with medium security.
