Yeah, same here - not that it matters because I don't think it would run
with
the glibc that's in cooker now anyway, as nothing does, just seg's. .
For the
record you'll get the same with hd install.

That is why I did the reinstall. I was getting segfault and if I didn't
know any better, the last urpmi update broke it! LoL. Now, I'm over here
toying around with windows with none of my signatures ported over
neither:( I'm now, toying around with installing gentoo (Just for fun

[Cooker] Network Install Failure

Title: Message

I receive the
following error from a GUI install of the latest cooker
today:

An error
occurred
error ordering
package list (no error)

I hit
"OK"

I notice that the
total file size has increased a few megs.

I hit
"Install"

New error
message:

An error
occured
error ordering
package list can not open Requirename index
using db3 - No such
file or directory (2)

After this poing,
any changes I make to the package list will still result in the above
error.

I took a look into
the file list and noticed that there is no entry for db3 or db4 but there
certainly are db3-utils and db4-utils listed.

I next try a
Text-based install using the following command:

expert linux
text

I see
only:

Group
Selection
OK  Cancel

I choose
"OK"

I see
only:

Individual Package
Selection?
OK  Cancel

I choose
"OK"

I get this next
immediately without any further input or selections:

(There is text above
this mentioning about wanting to install the following servers...yadda yadda
yadda)
postfix

Install

I choose
"Install"

I receive the same
first error except this time I get smart and do "Alt-F3" and see
this:

*warning: error
ordering package list: (no error) at /usr/lib/perl-install/pkgs.pm line
996.

*warning: error
ordering package list: (no error) at /usr/lib/perl-install/pkgs.pm line
996.

I "Alt-F1" to return to the first screen and
choose "OK"

I get the same choices of "Group Selection"
and "Individual Package Selection" and then get the second error listed
above:

An error
occured
error ordering
package list can not open Requirename index
using db3 - No such
file or directory (2)

My IQ being still at it's peak considerng it
is now 5am I do "Alt-F3" again and see:

*opened rpm database for transactin of 50
new packages, still 505 after that to do
* warning:

Sorry, somewhere it lost my original message but because I have kmail set to
most secure it won't view any HTML documents. Weird, considering I wasn't
trying to send a HTML message. Anyhow, here is the problem reposted:

When I run menudrake (as root), from within MCC I can not load the menu. If I
try to run mcc with the command "su -c mcc" I get the following error:

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

Cannot be run in console mode.
Compilation failed in require at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 34.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/sbin/drakconf.real line 34.

If I do the same with menudrake from the command line, "su -c menudrake", I
can run menudrake and make changes to the root menu or system menu. So
...technically Menudrake isn't broken... just broken from within mcc.

It looks like a useful program. If we can have a package called BitchX, I
don't know why we can't have pornview. Just my $ .02.

I upgraded urpmi and gurpmi to the latest and then ran urpmi.update-d -c -f -a
&& urpmi --auto-install --auto

All ran well and it is behaving like it normally should. Also, Carroll is back
up and fixed so I can now urpmi from it now. I should wait until it has
finished downloading all the packages before making my claim but I am
confident that if it made it to this point, it is good to go. Thank you all
as I really appreciate your input.

It is like I have a brand new computer! I didn't realize just how bad the old
fonts were until after I installed this package! I went the urpmi route and I
love it! You are the man, Ben! Thank you for your work on putting together
this package. I know this is off topic but what does your fluxbox bring to
the table that mandrake doesn't? I plan to make one minor or maybe two
changes to the fluxbox that would make it perfect for me.

I know how to "cut & paste" *nix style. That is why I thought it better to
list the second scenario with watching a movie while recompiling the kernel
or setting your computer to do a urpmi.update without blocking your view of
the movie. Or engaging in a videochat while checking your email. Tell me I am
not the only one that chats and checks his email at the same time?! I don't
mind fluxbox appeasing M$ users but provide a means to modify like KDE for
particular behaviours. I like how KDE has a windows, kde, unix, and whatever
you can think type of customizability. Fluxbox almost had me completely until
I quickly discovered that behavior. It becomes real annoying when you are
(scenario example, again ;) )waiting on a friend on chat to return back to
the computer (away status) and you are in your email but don't see the
messages of your friend after they return until you click on the chat window
again.

Far from! I like fluxbox but what it adds, it loses most with me with one
little small feature (and it is this one and only feature that sours my
experience!)

the ability to work in another window with but a quick pass over the
designated box no matter if it is behind another window. With fluxbox, I have
to click on the designated window to type or use whatever is in that box,
thereby blocking and hopping in front of the original window that I had
wanted to copy from or reference.

A good scenario:

I want to type a command in a terminal window, but I have another
terminal/editor/browser as a reference on typing the appropriate commands
that I need to accomplish a task. It sucks that when it comes time to type
the command with a lengthy list of options or reconfiguring a "spec" file, I
have to block the referencing program with the terminal that I am using to
type in my command arguments.

Or watching a video or engaging in a video chat with gnomemeeting while trying
to recompile a program or checking email and having the video blocked by the
offending email program or terminal. Fluxbox provide a "fix" or "option" for
the blackbox "trait" and I will be completely sold!

Then you were correct that it was a KDE problem. The xinit command basically

Yes, that was the problem. In order to through the IGNORE_CC_MISMATCH option,
you will have to use the tarball instead unless you download the SRPM and add
that option into the spec file.

That fixed my problem but now I don't get that nice verbose output. I like.
Well, I rather that it worked period then be verbose about what it can't do.

I have to comment on this one as it is a very sore spot for me. It make work
with gcc3.1 fully but plugin support doese not and of course I know this is
due to the plugins being compiled for gcc=2.96. That gives the impression
that mozilla isn't fully supported by gcc 3.1 but I'm sure that is what was
really meant by mozilla java not fully working. I heard that there is a small
"work around" for java and other plugins to work on the latest mozilla using
gcc3.1. I personally download a tarball and make a compiled mozilla using
gcc-2.96.

It might be your mirror, check to see if the actual path to contrib and the
relative path to hdlist2.cz is correct. That turned out to be the problem
with my updates using urpmi. And that was with 8.2 four days ago! Sometimes,
some of these mirrors switch around directories or simply remove "links" like
RPMS2 pointing really to ../../contrib/i586/ but discovering after contrib
packages keep getting "some files are missing, you need to update your urpmi
database" error type messages. You do an "ftp" search and discover the link
to RPMS2 is gone.

[Cooker] Urpmi Broken

2002-07-15 Thread nDiScReEt

I did an

urpmi.update -a

followed by

urpmi --auto-select

This upgraded perl to perl-5.8.0-0.17412.5mdk.
and other repective packages rpmi-3.7-3mdk and
gurpmi-3.7-3mdk. I no longer have the use of Software Manager or urpmi from
the command line.

I get the following output when I issue the command (su -c
"/usr/sbin/urpmi.update -a"):

Can't use string ("") as a subroutine ref while "strict refs" in use at
/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.0/urpm.pm line 934.

I made a typo. I had meant rpm -e pwlib1 --nodeps instead of rpm -e pwlib
--nodeps (I forgot the number 1). Then do rpm -ivh pwlib1-1.2.19-1mdk. That
is what I always do when I get the above dependency errors. It works
everytime without breaking anything. In the case ot the above, I would do the
following:

rpm -e pwlib1 pwlib1-devel --nodeps
rpm -ivh pwlib1-1.2.19-1mdk.i586.rpm pwlib1-devel-1.2.19-1mdk.i586.rpm

[Cooker] Software Manager Broken

2002-05-13 Thread nDiScReEt

Freshly installed the latest cooker by ftp. Software Manager doesn't work.
With software manager not working, I can not setup my Update source list.

This is what I have installed for gcc:
libgcc3.1-3.1-0.11mdk

gcc-3.1-0.11mdk
gcc3.1-c++-3.1-0.8mdk
gcc-c++-3.1-0.11mdk

and this is what I have for glibc:
glibc-devel-2.2.5-5mdk

libglib2.0_0-2.0.1-1mdk
libglib1.2-devel-1.2.10-4mdk

I think your problem can be atributed to the headers being tied to the glibc

Well, so much for my using java1.4 on the k6-2 for awhile. That sucks as I
have that as my primary server and really wanted to try out the jakarta. I
think I still can but I will let every one know of my findings.

So far it is unstable with my k6-2 even with the nopentium option enabled. I
will see my mileage with the p4. I will try that export option on the k6-2
and see if that fixes the problem.

Another note straight from jakarta-tomcat project release notes:

---
Linux and Sun JDK 1.2.x - 1.3.x:
---

Virtual machine crashes can be experienced when using certain combinations of
kernel / glibc under Linux with Sun Hotspot 1.2 to 1.3. The crashes were
reported to occur mostly on startup. Sun JDK 1.4 does not exhibit the
problems,
and neither does IBM JDK for Linux.

The problems can be fixed by reducing the default stack size. At bash shell,
do "ulimit -s 2048"; use "limit stacksize 2048" for tcsh.

GLIBC 2.2 / Linux 2.4 users should also define an environment variable:
export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5

I might try that when I reimplement java 1.4. It may be stable with tomcat,
but it sure isn't stable with yahoo! chat or yahoo! games.I want to kill my
current setup (PHP) and switch to jsp anyway. I want the future now. (xml,
xsl, xlt, etc, etc, etc..)

The stability will be very noticeable. You will think at first that your
system was over loaded or accidentally terminated by you or another user.
Believe me that I am certain that my problems were the work of 1.4.0. I
always like to work with "bleeding edge" and so it was a big disappointment
to me when 1.4.0 final came out and I discovered that my systems were
unstable. I work with java because I like to develop with it as well. I'm
working on a gui frontend to configure linux kernels and a java-based
videoconferencing client. So it is paramount that I stay with the latest
releases of java. But until I setup my environments to be able to bug trace
1.4.0, I will have to do without it for a little while longer than I had
planned. My programs ran nice on it and i enjoyed the added features as well.
LIke the improved security and others. Keep me posted on your Tomcat server
initiative as I plan on doing likewise myself. I am really trying to
implement java into many facets of my development.

Yes, I have tried java 1.4.0 but I had problems with it on both of my main
production systems. My problems arise when I use it in yahoo chatrooms and
yahoo online games like dominoes, also with blackplanet.com's beta chat
client. My problem was that it was too unstable and either locked the whole
system (amd k6-2 but this might be due to that vm bug) or kept crashing after
using it for a while. It was too unstable for my needs. So I went back to the
1.3.1 and everything is sturdy once again. I even took it off of the cooker
as it was driving me wild trying to trace the problem. Any advice?

Did you do "make mrproper", first?
Second what version of gcc or libgcc are you using?
Lastly, is your default gcc pointing to gcc3, gcc3.0.4, or anything to that

He meant using cooker RPMs on a non-cooker installation is not a valid Cooker
post. If you are building Cookers for use on a stable release like LM 8.2,
then the expert list is more appropriate. Now, If your system was a Cooker
install (Mandrake release 8.3 Cooker) then this is the place for your posts.
In your message above, you referenced a cooker package onto an 8.2 which, of
course, is stable not cooker.

Besides, you are getting that error because xine-0.9.9-1mdk.athlon.rpm will
have to be installed first before you can compile the xine libraries. If you
had rebuilt xine-0.9.9-1mdk.src.rpm for athlon. Install it before trying to
rebuild the other packages.

I have the binaries installed. I just don't have the testlibraw program that
normally comes with the program. The other reason why I am still trying to
build the package is because I can't. I need to know for myself as for all
linux users out there why I can not do a simple build with this package. Is
it missing a key package, config, or environment? Could it be another package
that I installed be conflicting with this package? ...or a package that I
didn't install? Your advice yielded this error but at least it made it beyond
the prep:

My spec doesn't have an entry for %configure. That probably would explain why
I couldn't recompile. I will add it and see if that would make it work. The
reason that I am trying to rebuild from source is that neither package,
libraw1394-0.9.0_5 or libraw1394-0.9.0_5-devel has testlibraw in the package.
I can see that my two pci cards work as I put my webcam into the sb1394 port
of the audigy and then next I put it into the pyro 1394 pci card. Here is the
lsmod after doing that:

Module Size Used byTainted: P
video1394 15460 0 (unused)
ohci1394 15904 2 [video1394]
raw1394 6832 0 (unused)
ieee1394 26312 0 [video1394 ohci1394 raw1394]
not tell if the binaries work.

I try dvgrab with this command:

dvgrab --autosplit --frames 1800 firstdvgrab.mpeg

That doesn't work or the test command:

dvgrab --frames 25 test

I don't know how to use libdc.

I just thought about this but should I remove the SB Audigy and my IEEE1394
PCI card first before installing libraw1394? I had searched on the web and
the method that they show for installing the tarball requires me to have the
hardware installed after installing the package. Here is the link:

He heard there oft the flying sound
Of feet as light as linden-leaves,
Of music welling underground,
In hidden hollows quavering.
Now withered lay the hemlock-sheaves,
And one by one with sighing sound
Whispering fell the beechen leaves
In the wintry woodland wavering.

He sought her ever, wandering far
Where leaves of years were thickly strewn,
By light of moon and ray of star
In frosty heavens shivering.
Her mantle glinted in the moon,
As on a hill-top high and far
She danced, and at her feet was strewn
A mist of silver quivering.

When winter passed, she came again,
And her song released the sudden spring,
Like rising lark, and falling rain,
And melting water bubbling.
He saw the elven-flowers spring
About her feet, and healed again
He longed by her to dance and sing
Upon the grass untroubling.

Where would I put that, Geoff? I have to go into the
/usr/src/RPM/BUILD/libraw1394-0.9.0 directory and mess around in there? I can
recompile kernel src rpms but not this package. It apparently crashes in the
make process while doing checks. I did a little searching and was wondering
will I have to change info in the file config.guess? I tried rebuiding with
target i686 but that didn't help neither. I have no idea what to do in this
situation. This is a first for me. Without this lib being built, I can not
use the SB1394 port on my Audigy card or my new pci firewire card that I
bought. All this so that I can use a new firewire webcam , Orange IBot. Save
me someone as I only get this error with libraw1394. Should I try an older
source to see if that would work?
