In the XFree configuration, I chose test configuration. Some time ago, it was
discussed on the Cooker mailing list to have a background image. None appears,
just a blank background. This doesn't make it possible to confirm the
resolution, just the operation of XFree. (And even then, you have to know that
the x cursor means that the X server/client is working.)

Would it be possible to include something that shows tick marks (at 800x600,
1024x768, ...) for resolutions on some very large, non-scaled image? Then the
user can confirm that the correct one was chosen.

This is maybe mostly for draksound but I couldn't find an entry for it.

I have an onboard soundcard and a soundblaster-live card. The onboard card works
out of the box but getting the sb to work is impossible using draksound. It does
give me the option to select a driver for it but if I select what ever driver it
doesn't get stored/changed.

I can remove the undisired modules by hand and then 'modprobe emu10k1' and the
sb works but if I restart the computer these settings are overwritten by
something (alsactl perhaps?). Even if I edit /etc/modules.conf this file is also
rewritten to use non-working settings by something during startup.

I tried to 'alsactl store' with working settings but it just said:

  alsactl: save_state:1061: No soundcards found...

following: Notice that if you log out and click on GNOME, you will get the message:
You have chosen GNOME for this session, but your default setting is kde. Do you wish
to make GNOME the default for future sessions ? If you click yes, all your future

Session. It looks as if the os does not recollect wha

assign the Last UI to be GNOME and not KDE. this value for Last should be set

worksforme but i've xhosted my x server sometimes ago.
i guess we've fall on the same old bug (aka x11 cookie not used by
forked program) since we run sg like:

  su username -c /usr/bin//menudrake

instead of:

  su username -c /usr/bin//menudrake

as for combo vs optionmenu: draksound already use pull down menu
instead of non editable combo since Jul 24 2003
(drakxtools-9.2-0.22mdk) !!!

as for layou: i agree that it should display the current sound driver
in the list too in order to not confuse users.

could be for exemple as this ( emu10k1 ) :

[ALSA] snd-emu10k1 ( recommended )
[OSS] emuk10k1

1°/ This will facilitate translation ( there is only recommended to translate
) and be less confusing ( see #5403 ) as it seems that people seems to not
read at all or completly the notice at the top.
2°/ you don't expect that the user will enter by hand the driver module name,
if he want to select another one it will go to let me pick another driver,
so option menu is more obvious/sensible.

For my hardware (G732 notebook, see greenhat.blogspot.com), harddrake shows the
module as snd-intel8x0. When I 'Run config tool' (Sound configuration =
DrakSound?) the 'Driver:' dropdown list has no pre-selected value, showing the
first listed driver (= ali5455 - not, in my case, the active driver, which is
i810_audio). I was confused by this, and wasted hours trying to re-configure the
sound system because I thought that the active driver was the one shown in the
dropdown field! I expected the current/active driver to be pre-selected, and
acted accordingly (wrongly).

Mandrakeclub :

1) Add this line to the end of /etc/hotplug/usb.handmap :
Code:

  usbdnet 0x0003 0x04dd 0x8004 0x 0x 0x02 0x00 0x00 0xff 0x01 0x00
0x

(if last line in file make sure to add a linefeed at the end)

2) Add a script called /etc/hotplug/usb/usbdnet (this forum malfunctions when i
try to format this using CODE like I did above.)

#! /bin/bash
typeset -i num
num=`ifconfig | grep usb0 | wc -l`

ifconfig usb0 192.168.129.1 netmask 255.255.255.255 up
route add -host 192.168.129.201 usb0

3) Then setup shorewall to both allow the zaurus to talk to the PC and to have
it do connection sharing so the zaurus can get to the Internet. Check out the
two interface example of shorewall here.
This assumes that you have one regular ethernet card and then the zaurus (usb0)
as the second interface.

4) Set zaurus usbd networking to

Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.129.1

Moreover, the layout could be like rpmdrake : instead of an information button
for each entry (which does not look very nice), why not creating a window in the
right that would give the necessary information.

Finally, you could add in information the importance of the services and some
warnings (portmapper : do not uncheck if you use sharing, SMB : you can uncheck
if you don't use Windows machines in your network, etc...)

WDYT ?

Overall progress: current package/all packages
Progresbar for overall installation
Time remaining: time remaining

In no details version only the second part for overall progress should be

When in details mode where there are no add images there is some large empty

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5427

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-09-09 12:20 ---

short explanation:
==

1) fill one bug per entry.
2) fill your bug on the appropriate product.

longer explanation:
===

1) one bug is assigned to the one who maintain the components; so
having several bugs reports in the same bugs reports will only:

   - confuse people, with mixed comments about different bugs,

   - and only one of the maintainers if the different products
involved will be assigned to the bug.

2) your bug hasn't anything to do with kernel.
since you provided almost no information, we cannot automagically
guess on which product you want to report a bug.

please fill a bug report on gdm, xdm, kdm or mdkkdm depending of
   what dm you currently.
in order to know what dm you currently use, just run drakedm,
it'll show you the current dm.

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 is set up for an pcmcia Ethernet card, but
the user is replacing the Ethernet card with a wireless card.

The user starts mcc and selects the networking GUI.
The user presses the 'Wizard' button and goes through drakconnect to set up the
wireless card parameters. On pressing 'Finish' to exit the wizard the new parameters
are used to set up the card, and it starts working.

The user then presses 'OK' in the networking GUI, and the original contents of
ifcfg-eth0 are then written back again and the card stops working.

The user has to exit the GUI with 'Cancel' in order to retain the modified contents of
ifcfg-eth0.

This is obviously not very intuitive.

I have a Dell 2350 with the BroadCom 4401 Ethernet Card, which comes pre-
installed. There is a driver available for linux for this card, however i
can't get it to compile.

The driver is here: http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/item.aspx?
ModelName=A7V333-X and it's the last download For Linux.

If you unzip the archive there will be a Linux folder and it will contain
instructions for compiling this driver. I figured since it was a popular
ethernet card for a popular model computer you guys might want to support it
if you could.

Thanks,
cecjr

P.S.: if you get it working, could i get a copy? ; )

I don't have an Audigy (thats a higher end card). However my SBLive doesn't
work either with or without the audigy alias in modules.conf. (that is another
bug report)

# lspcidrake -v

snd-emu10k1 : Creative Labs|SB Live! (audio) [MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO] (vendor:1102

emu10k1-gp : Creative Labs|SB Live! (joystick) [INPUT_OTHER] (vendor:1102
device:7002 subv:1102 subd:)

The gameport appears to be confusing the ALSA snd-emu10k1 driver when I try to
load it (also part of the other bug report), so maybe the 'emu10k1-gp'
designation causes the gameport to appear as a separate sound card?

From Mandrake Control Center, I clicked Boot Config: dummy description (you might
want
to fix those dummy description identifiers, I'll enter a separate bug about that).
I then clicked
the Lilo Configure button, then clicked Advanced, and since I didn't know what
compact
meant, I hit F1 to get help -- and both drakboot windows disappeared. This is
repeatable.

Then, I decided I wanted to autologin on boot (I had disabled this during
installation). So I
restarted drakboot (clicked on Boot Config) and clicked the Launch the graphical
environment when your system starts checkbox, then clicked OK. It opens the CD-ROM
drive and asks Please insert the medium named Installation CD 1 (x86) (cdrom1) on
device [/dev/hdc]. I insert the Mandrake 9.1 beta 1 CD in the drive and click OK,
and it spits
the CD out and asks for it again.

I am using beta 1 instead of beta 2 because beta 2 does not activate my network card
(separate bug already entered for this). (Beta 1 doesn't activate my sound, and beta
2 does,
but connectivity is more important than sound right now.)

Just to be complete, I put in the beta 2 CD 1, but it rejected that as well.

And when I hit cancel on the dialog asking for the CD, all drakboot windows
disappear (I
believe it should have returned me to the main drakboot window so I could change this
and
other options before hitting OK or cancel).

short explanation:
==

1) fill one bug per entry.
2) fill your bug on the appropriate product.

longer explanation:
===

1) one bug is assigned to the one who maintain the components; so
having several bugs reports in the same bugs reports will only:

   - confuse people, with mixed comments about different bugs,

   - and only one of the maintainers if the different products
involved will be assigned to the bug.

2) your bug hasn't anything to do with kernel.
since you provided almost no information, we cannot automagically
guess on which product you want to report a bug.

please fill a bug report on gdm, xdm, kdm or mdkkdm depending of
   what dm you currently.
in order to know what dm you currently use, just run drakedm,
it'll show you the current dm.

btw, userdrake should also enable to alter the icon after user

regarding there should be more icons to choose, packages can freely

gimp-1.2.x is still using gtk+-1.2.x, thus has no support for the
fontconfig infrastructure, thus get no support for aa fonts in std
widgets.

gimp-1.3.x do use gtk+-2.x and so has aa fonts support.

it's packaged in contribs but is not yet tagged as table (though 2.0.0
is scheduled to be released soon)

as for sound broken on reboot, this may be related to the fact that harddrake2
incorrectly overwrited the sound alias in /etc/modules.conf on bootstrapping.
this is now fixed.

as for muted sound, this has been fixed in initscripts.

btw what's your built-in sound card ?
what is the exact problem with playing sound with it ? (you can follow the
instructions from the troubleshooting window in draksound)

I have a Intel D845PEBT2 motherboard with built in sound chip, and also
and external sound card Soundblaster Live. The reason I use two cards is that
Mandrake 9.1 wasn't able to recognize the built-in chip (9.2 does, but fails to
play sound on it). Now, harddrake does show me two installed sound cards, and I
was able to use the buttons to configure the Soundblaster to play sound during a
session, but after a reboot, everything went back to mute, and all over again.
The trick that made it work (it seems) is to use emu10k driver rather than
snd-emu10k which pops in as a default. I even modified my modules.conf by hand
to na avail.
I know the card works as I dual boot to SuSE 8.2, and YAST2 allows me to select
the Soundblaster card only, and ignore the built-in one.
Let me know if you need additional info.

http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5286

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-07-09 00:47 ---
this looks obviously fishy:

1) the files in your /dev/lirc are not device files but regular ones... which is
just impossible with devfs, so i guess you really do not use devfs.

2) since the entry in /dev/lirc are c, 61 and 0 like the arguments you
said one has to pass to mknod, it looks like *you* created these files by typing
a wrong command.

since that sound card is correctly supported, i guess the problem was muted
sound, which is fixed since initscripts-7.06-23mdk

it would be really usefull if you follow these draksound instructions (just
copied below).

classic bug sound tester:

lspcidrake -v | fgrep AUDIO will tell you which driver your card use
by default (and if your card is detected)

grep sound-slot /etc/modules.conf will tell you what driver it
currently uses

/sbin/lsmod will enable you to check if its module (driver) is
loaded or not

/sbin/chkconfig --list sound and /sbin/chkconfig --list alsa will
tell you if sound and alsa services're configured to be run on
initlevel 3

aumix -q will tell you if the sound volume is muted or not

/sbin/fuser -v /dev/dsp will tell which program uses the sound card.

what i guess is that your sound was muted because it uses alsa and alsa drivers
are muted by default.

i've fixed initscripts so that they set some decent default levels for volume on
first boot.

so, since rc2 (that should be released early next week), i guess you won't have
anymore problems.

i would like to have confirmation

maybe the fix was triggered by a kernel update ?

ok, a solution is to not set default strings (which is not sane anyway).
so we won't check that the user did select another file or directory other than
cwd (well, this' not so hard to fix).

Hi,
This has been a long term problem with DrakFont, but I thought I'd bring it
up again incase it was overlooked. When you go to add an entire directory of
fonts in the Advanced mode, it only works if you remove the instructions that
are placed in the file name box first. If you try to select a directory per
the instructions and click add it says no fonts are available.

While the instructions are nice, it might be preferable to have no
instructions, since this solution is less obvious than the actual selection
process that the text aims to assist with.

 Tim

we usually really do not want package updates to fail because of info system
faillure.

as for your points in #3 current macros do work (and do since 2000's big move)
and are robubt (but for idiot upstream packagers that do not bother check their
build system)

we use file tests because install-info rely on INFO-DIR-ENTRY header in info
file (and also other programs such as info2html which had subtle bugs regarding
this header position in splitten info files).

so your point is valid about the mdk policy violation.

as for rpmlint: yes, we should forbid install-info to be used in postun

I did a fresh installation of cooker this evening and had the following problem
in draksec:

I run it from inside the MCC, go to the Systems Options and scroll down all the
way to the bottom. I then select one of the edit fields to move the cursor to
that field. The scrollbar then immediately goes back up, whereas the focus stays
where I wanted it to be, namely in the last edit field at the bottom of that page.

What I expected: that the edit field would not disappear out of sight on my
screen right after I selected it.

[Cooker] [Bug 2798] [Installation] Leadtek WinFast TV 2000 tuner card

2003-09-04 Thread [tvignaud]
http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2798

--- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-04-09 12:53 ---
some of the tv cards managed by bttv driver cannot properly be autodetected due
to hardware constraints.

this is why drakxtv exists, in order to help people selecting their tuner card
tyes in nice tree rather than adding numeric parameters to obscure config files.

afaic, this is not a bug

Installing MDK 9.1 rc2. The Leadtek WinFast TV 2000 tuner card (with radio) was
not recognized or configured. After manually selecting it via the installer
Configure button, it still reads not configured, but works ok once booted up for
the first time. The XawTV icon is on the desktop and when clicking it XawTV
seems to work ok.

Whenever I try to install Mandrake 9.1 RC1 under VMWare (3.2.0 build 2230) the
installation fails when writing Lilo. It says An error occurred Undefined
subroutine main:: called..

Host OS is Windows 2k.
I cannot switch to another virtual terminal, as VMWare steals the ctrl+alt
keys to release the mouse pointer. Switching to full screen gives the same
results.
