Try booting from floppy, then inserting the first CD just before it is
required. This worked for me under similar circumstances with an old hp
server (6xRAIDed SCSI HDD, SCSI CD_ROM).

I had to do without the (DAC960) RAID controller as the EPROM version was too
old and I didn't rate my chances of getting a compatible set too highly.

you should be able to boot install using all.img
(which is there on CD2 using isolinux)

[Cooker] Cannot install cooker (or 8.2) on IBM Server PC 330

2002-04-07 Thread Miguel Beccari

I am not able to install cooker (and 8.2) on "IBM PC SERVER 330".

The error is :cannot find cdrom.

I tried to load all availables modules but no one worked.

IBM PC SERVER 330 has got scsi controller with ibm raid feautures.

How can I install ? Maybe I have to do a custom boot image with ips.o
module ?

[Cooker] Cannot Install Cooker

1999-12-29 Thread Jim Darrough

Greetings!

I cannot install cooker on my system. It gets to "Select Language" and
hangs. Here's my system:

FIC Pentium board with Cyrix 6x86-150
24MB RAM
2x Creative CD-Rom (the old Soundblaster Interface CR-562)
NE2000 clone NIC
Buslogic SCSI II Controller and two SCSI-II drives
ISA VGA Card (AVG1 generic with 256k)
1.44 Floppy

Anyone run across this problem before? I'd love to try the new Mandrake but
it won't cooperate.

Success at long last! After mirroring again /base and /mdkinst from
ftp.sunet.se
I managed to finish the graphical installation of Cooker. This downloading
business of mirrors is like a tight-rope dance; one small step aside
(=corrupt or missing file) and you fall :-)

After experiencing DrakX I can proudly show this to my doubting friends who
maintain installing Linux is too difficult for the average user. Thanks a
lot Pixel & Co.!

Re: [Cooker] Cannot Install Cooker

1999-11-15 Thread Tapio Riikonen

I downloaded the new files in /base + gi_hd.img. Wov, Gold is a worthy name
for this piece of art! I can now go so far as to partitioning and mounting.
After rebooting the partitions are there but the mount points have
disappeared. I give the mount points and reboot; again the mount points have
disappeared, etc. in a loop. If I do not reboot, I get: mount failed. I
install Custom.

My 13.2 Gb disk is: 2.0 Gb vfat (/dev/hda1), 2.5 Gb vfat (/dev/hda5,
contains /Mandrake), 15 Mb /boot, 1.5 Gb / and 64 Mb swap, the rest empty. I
also tried without /boot, no success, mount fails. Tried Recommended and
auto-partitioning but failed as above.

The not yet updated boot.img is still a mess; after trying to read from
/dev/hda5 there is a blue screen and
/tmp.raid0.o: a module named raid0 already exists
/tmp.raid1.o: a module named raid1 already exists
and all the processes are killed.

Alt-F2 shows: exec: No such file or directory

Alt-F3 shows: going to insmod raidx(0, 1, 1, 5, 5) (path is NULL)

Alt-F4 shows:
ATAPI device hdc:
Error: Not ready -- (Sense Key=0x02)
Raidx(0, 1, 5) personality registered

Why does it try to read from CD-ROM? I'm installing from hard drive.
I have no problems with Mandrake 6.0 when installing from cdrom.

Sorry to answer so late, but there are the time zones... You are working
when I am sleeping and vice versa.

Here the problem is with NE2000PCI module that cannot be installed...
Once installed cooker without "network" I can compile the kernel with
NE2000PCI as a module and it works.

Another thing, how egcs can be used instead of gcc2.95.2? I think that
this is a great thing to have two compilers ( with egcs I can compile
xcmail and xclasses without problems )

ok ;)

Quick question/sugestion

question what are the differences in securtiy ie what do they change?
Windows,
low
medium
high
paranoid

sugestion put descriptions in the install so the user knows what the
different options do

BOOT10 and BOOT 5 I think I am not positve so don't quote me on it!

I'l have to reboot and try the setup and see for sure.

I ended up just compiling the 2.3x kernel (not for the faint of heart!) with scsi
support.

but I think boot5 is the the kernel on the boot disk

I have noticed that as well ended up just configuring postfix and leaving sendmail
out this time around.

there is also a conflict with the conf.modules and ppp when you have both 2.2.13
and the 2.3.21 kernels install.

OH almost forgot the latest installs for the grahpical install complain about the
aha152x module being compiled for the wrong kernel.

in fact that's not so simple. The problem is if you ask to install kernelcfg. It
requires kernel and both hackkernel and kernel-2.2.13 provides it. And the nasty
code takes the first :(

i must do something about it, but i don't know what yet :(

not to mention I noticed that if you select expert mode it installs the

I am having a problem installing cooker as well with the bootnet.img and
boothd.img's when it loads the secound stage right after it inilizes the
raid devices it stops and says exec command not found then shuts down
and says "your may now reboot"

the graphical install works fine except for the fact that the package
selction dose not quite work right and it installs packages even if I
unmark them. also noticed a bunch of errors in the console after finding
packages is down about group not found in compsLIST or something like
that.

any ideas?

[Cooker] Cannot Install Cooker

1999-11-14 Thread Tapio Riikonen

I have an Abit BP6 with 2xCeleron 366 (not
overclocked when installing), 64 PC100 SDRAM, Quantum Fireball CX 13,2 Gb (2.0
Gb Win98 vfat = /dev/hda1, 2.5 Gb vfat = /dev/hda5, the rest empty and reserved
for Linux), Matrox G400 DH, Mitsumi CR-4802 CD-RW drive, nothing
special.

There have been three unsuccessful attemps at
installing Cooker from Local Hard Drive d: (/dev/hda5):

a) Using gi_hd.img there is the error
message

        "Error
creating RAM disk"

b) Using boot.img after I select /dev/hda5 and /
the installation exits and kills all the processes.

c) I install Mandrake 6.0 without any problems from
CD-ROM. When trying to update this to Cooker from /dev/hda5 I get again the
above results.

Is this a Cooker problem or has it something to do
with my Win98 partitions?

Tapio
