perhaps that is something that should be initially filled out at install, then, should it require changes later, you should be able to start it from control panel. One last thing, Mandrake should not make any GUI tools that don't have console alternatives, so I'd like to see a setup for this from the console also. Result is: rpm -e msec + reboot = kde won't start (dcop intercomunication error, wrong permission and so on) gnome won't start (permission errors and applett errors) then "urpmi msec" = all works, but permission are changed in /home... :o( -- Claudio Panichi, System/Network Admin at Dept. of Physics "Tor Vergata" University and INFN - Sec. Re: [Cooker] I cannot believe!!! Is it Windows or Linux?
Msec is a nice tool. But it would be wonderful to have a graphical front end for it, where parameters get explained and open themselves to local customization. Sort of like the nice firewall tools. Any thoughts on this? Claudio wrote: >Il 19:29, lunedì 18 febbraio 2002, H.McM ha scritto: >[...] > >>>NO! It is not a unix but a redhat standard to set it to 700. Unix doesn't have standards 3. If you would start with a clean sheet 710 would be the way to go. 700 is just dumb

This file overrides the default msec permissions. Could the changelog be more precise than ? So you can figure out what might goes wrong after you install it. Looking back in the changelog of msec I see: * Sun Jan 20 2002 Frederic Lepied <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 0.17-13mdk - /home is 711 in level 3. but no mention of /home/* (note the star) being set to 711. By the way, could I have some more detail about this entry in the changelog: * Tue Feb 05 2002 Frederic Lepied <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 0.18-4mdk - correct gdm.conf modifications Could this one be the origin of my gdm.conf continously being reset to "Browser=true" ? If you are not happy with the current permissions, then either: 1) select a security level with the permissions you require. You can see the what permissions used with each level are by looking in /etc/security/msec 2) create a perm.local file in /etc/security/msec with the directories and permissions that you require. This file overrides the default msec permissions. 3) remove msec. > Or just cleany explain during installation how to disable this disgusting > behaviour. > > So now > auto-mount, > auto-device-generation, > auto-permission, > auto-script-generation > auto-* If you dont like these auto packages, deselect them during the install phase.
