I am stuck in the install process due, it seems, ldconfig problem.

Today (the 25/05/2003) install of cooker failed during install of ldconfig
package :
- rsync source of the repository : tried with sunet and sunsite.uoi.net
- last rsync : 1 hour ago
- network install with network.img get with the last rsync cycle (drakX
1.809)
- everything okay until the install of the package ldconfig
- version of the package :
i586/Mandrake/RPMS/ldconfig-2.3.2-3mdk.i586.rpm
Md5sum :
9b40bf0e692f5372dfddb8f85218356a
mdk-current/cooker/cooker/Mandrake/RPMS/ldconfig-2.3.2-3mdk.i586.rpm
The error message is : une erreur est survenue ldconfig failed and on
screen #3 (text screen) :
* running : ldconfig with root /mnt
* exec of ldconfig failed : No such file or directory
* warning : ldconfig failed
On busybox built-in shell, the command bug doesn't seem to work : the output
is :
mounting /dev/fd0 on /fd0 as type vfat, options
calling mount(/dev/fd0, /fd0, vfat, -1058209792, check=relaxed)
SCALAR(0x84e8400) at usr/bin/perl-install/fs.pm line 738
and nothing on the disk.

I haven't been able to install because of the ldconfig problem
 for a couple of
weeks now, I normally install via the harddrive method, haven't tried
creating cd's lately. I also haven't tried an update on a
 running install
either. That will be my next try. Anyone have an answer or fix to the
 ldconfig install problem?

At the end of the installation it tryed to make a make symbolic links
(ie /dev/mouse) but failed. Anyway mouse works just fine.
Think this is since 8.1.
Maybe something with transition to devfs?

That's not really a problem since both packages get coexist nicely. It's
just that gcc 2.96 is the system (default) compiler. Henceforth,
/lib/cpp from gcc-cpp-2.96 is the one that is used. However, I don't know
why the install still installs both packages.

You could provide at least an installer for the MS Web fonts, their
licensing would probably make actually putting them on the disc a
problem, but you could make a package that was essentially an installer
for them (downloaded with wget/curl, unpacked with a cab extracter, and
placed in a Mandrake-specified directory) complete with a warning about
the license.

Considering that Debian provides this in their contrib (msttcorefonts),
Mandrake should be able to provide it as well.

I have made a package based on the webfonts package so that thay are

As far as i've looked, the only accepted form is dowloading for use.
Duplicating the .exe on another server may be allowed?...

If this could be done, we could have an automatic tool which would download
those fonts and install them. Would be nice :)

I don't think we could have more than this.
And if we can't copy the .exe on another server, downloading from microsoft is
kind of fragile. They just have to change the location or decide enough is
enough!

Hmm as log as you dont ask your(mandrake) clients additional fee for this
SOFTWARE PRODUCT (They are not sold seperaty but included with Mandrake-Linux product)
you can include them(ttfs) if you will not modify them and will include
EULA.

IMHO.

Why? Debian also has these fonts - granted, they are in the non-free
section, and installing the package causes the .exe file to be
downloaded from the MS servers, but they do have an easy to use package!

I did managed to install it. Had to press one key all the time.
Installation was not painful, but the actual system was. (sorry im drunk

2 no /var/lock/subsys

One more thing can you separate kdm and kdebase? I dont whant to have 2
